Buxton will undergo season-ending arthroscopic surgery on his right hip Sept. 18, Aaron Gleeman of AaronGleeman.com reports.

Buxton has been on the 10-day injured list since late August with a hip injury that's bothered him off-and-on throughout the 2026 campaign. It's positive news that the surgery is arthroscopic, as that should give Buxton plenty of time to recover before spring training. Buxton will finish this season with a .254/.319/.511 batting line with 25 home runs and seven stolen bases over 93 games. With Buxton officially done for the season, Walker Jenkins will continue to man center field for Minnesota.

Williamson (hamstring) has resumed baseball activities, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Out since early August with a right hamstring strain, Williamson will work out with the Rays through the weekend and could then begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham next week. If Williamson is able to rejoin the Rays' active roster later this month, he could be used in a short-side platoon role at second base with Richie Palacios.

Weathers (forearm) is slated to throw off the mound early next week, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Weathers has been sidelined for the past three weeks with a left forearm flexor strain. He resumed flat-ground work earlier this week and will progress to throwing off the bump soon. Weathers remains optimistic about helping the Yankees as a reliever before the end of the regular season.

Larnach is absent from Friday's starting lineup against the Guardians.

The left-handed-hitting Larnach will sit as the Guardians send out southpaw Parker Messick to the mound Friday. Austin Martin will move over to left field and bat eighth for Minnesota.

Bailey is absent from the lineup for Friday's game in Minnesota.

After starting at catcher in the Guardians' last two contests, Bailey will take a seat Friday. Austin Hedges will be behind the dish and will bat eighth in the series opener versus the Twins.

Bauers (shins) is back in the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds.

After three straight days out of the lineup, Bauers is back in the starting nine for Friday's series opener against Cincinnati. The 30-year-old will man first base and bat fifth for Milwaukee.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Friday that Santander (shoulder) will remain on his rehab assignment at Triple-A Buffalo through the middle of next week, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.

That means he'll stay with Buffalo through the end of the Blue Jays' homestand. Santander could conceivably be activated after that for the start of Toronto's road trip, though nothing is set in stone. He's coming back from February left shoulder surgery.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Friday that Schmidt (elbow) will make one more rehab appearance Saturday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

If that goes well, Schmidt could rejoin the active roster during the Yankees' road trip next week. He's made four rehab appearances so far, allowing three runs with an 8:1 K:BB over 5.2 innings. Coming back from an internal brace procedure, Schmidt will be used in a bullpen role for the Yankees down the stretch before likely re-entering the rotation in 2027.

Nootbaar is absent from the Diamondbacks' lineup Friday against the Rangers.

As the Rangers trot out southpaw MacKenzie Gore, the left-handed-hitting Nootbaar will ride the bench for Friday's series opener. Lourdes Gurriel will slot in as Arizona's designated hitter and bat seventh.

Carroll (back) is in Arizona's lineup for Friday's matchup against the Rangers.

Carroll will return to the lineup Friday after missing the past two games with low back discomfort. The 26-year-old will man right field and bat fifth for the Diamondbacks.
