The Athletics optioned Muncy to Triple-A Las Vegas on Saturday.

Muncy was brought up from Triple-A on Tuesday to provide infield depth when Joshua Kuroda-Grauer (groin) landed on the injured list, but the former will now head back to the minors following Nick Kurtz's (thumb) return from the IL. Muncy has slashed .223/.298/.389 across 178 plate appearances with the Athletics this season and would likely be one of the first choices to return to Sacramento if the big club's infield depth is tested again down the stretch.

The Athletics reinstated Kurtz (thumb) from the injured list Saturday.

Kurtz landed on the injured list July 11 due to a right thumb capsule sprain, but he's now been cleared to return to action without having to play in any rehab games. The 23-year-old slugger figures to immediately reclaim his role as the Athletics' everyday first baseman, and he'll replace Max Muncy on the active roster.

Kirk isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox.

Kirk has notched at least one base hit in each of his last four games, but the Blue Jays will keep him on the bench to begin Saturday's contest and instead start Brandon Valenzuela at catcher.

Campusano isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Campusano will retreat to the bench Saturday after going 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts in Friday's series opener. Freddy Fermin will start behind the plate and bat ninth.

The Rays optioned Roycroft to Triple-A Durham on Saturday.

After joining Tampa Bay's bullpen July 6, Roycroft gave up eight earned runs in 13 innings while striking out 11 batters and walking three. He'll now lose his place on the active roster to make room for Steven Matz (ankle), who returned from the injured list Saturday.

The Rays reinstated Matz (ankle) from the injured list Saturday.

A sprained left ankle has kept Matz on the shelf since June 25, but he's now been cleared to return after giving up three runs in six innings across five rehab appearances at Triple-A Durham. He'll reclaim a long-relief role in Tampa Bay's bullpen and push Chris Roycroft back down to the minors.

Freeman went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base in a 4-2 win against the Mets on Friday.

Freeman scored half of the Dodgers' runs and recorded his 26th double of the season -- tied for second in the majors. The future Hall of Famer is moving up the all-time chart in the category, as his 573 career regular-season doubles put him 27th in MLB history. Freeman has collected three hits in both of his past two games to push his season slash line to .294/.377/.486 with 15 homers, 51 RBI, 56 runs and five stolen bases through 101 contests.

Keuchel signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics on Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

After spending the first several months of the season as a free agent, Keuchel will now get a chance to continue his professional career with the A's. The 38-year-old lefty hasn't appeared in an MLB game since 2024 and is unlikely to provide anything more than organizational depth to the Athletics.

The Royals traded Misner to the Phillies on Saturday in exchange for cash.

After being DFA'd by the Royals on Wednesday, Misner will reclaim a 40-man roster spot with the Phillies and report to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 28-year-old outfielder has slashed just .220/.256/.244 across 44 plate appearances in the majors this season but boasts a .941 OPS through 63 games at Triple-A. Steward Berroa was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Gonzalez entered Friday's game as a pinch hitter and had a double, an RBI and a run scored in a 6-4 win over Toronto.

Gonzalez, who had snapped an 0-for-23 stretch in his previous game Wednesday, delivered the go-ahead run in the eighth inning. Since a midseason return from shoulder surgery following a truncated rehab assignment, Gonzalez has been grinding. He entered Friday with a .189/.271/.321 slash line across 60 plate appearances.
