Padres' Ty France: Monster performance in loss

France went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double and five RBI in Friday's 9-7 loss to the Rangers.

France had Jacob deGrom's number, launching a grand slam in the first inning before adding a game-tying solo shot in the fourth. It was an unexpected effort from the 31-year-old, who entered the contest just 5-for-38 in June and without a homer since May 29. On the year, he's slashing .259/.306/.490 with eight long balls, 24 RBI, 17 runs scored and a stolen base across 158 plate appearances.

  • Padres' Randy Vasquez: Tagged early in loss

Vasquez (6-5) took the loss against the Rangers on Friday, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout over 3.1 innings.

Vasquez was spotted a five-run lead in the top of the first inning but allowed six runs of his own in the bottom half of the frame. It marked the shortest outing of the season for the 27-year-old, and he's now yielded four earned runs or more in three of his past five outings. He owns a 4.17 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 59:25 K:BB across 77.2 innings this season and faces a tough home test against Atlanta next week.

  • Jacob Latz RP | TEX

Rangers' Jacob Latz: Earns four-out save

Latz earned the save in Friday's 9-7 win over the Padres, allowing one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings. He did not record a walk or a strikeout.

Latz was called on to relieve Jakob Junis in a one-run game in the eighth inning and recorded the final out of the frame before closing things out in the ninth. The southpaw has now secured a save in each of his past eight appearances, allowing just one earned run during that stretch. On the year, he owns a 1.56 ERA, 0.61 WHIP and 35:7 K:BB across 34.2 innings while converting 13 of 15 save opportunities.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Rangers' Jacob deGrom: Overcomes early struggles in win

DeGrom (6-4) earned the win against the Padres on Friday, allowing six runs on six hits and three walks with nine strikeouts over six innings.

DeGrom allowed five runs in the first inning but battled through five more frames as the Rangers erupted for nine runs in the contest. It marked the third time this season the 38-year-old has yielded six earned runs, though he still managed an impressive 17 swinging strikes on 106 pitches. He'll take a 3.59 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 98:18 K:BB across 82.2 innings into a road matchup against the Marlins next week.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Powers offense in win

Altuve went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Guardians.

Altuve launched what proved to be the game-winning three-run homer in the sixth inning before adding an RBI double in the seventh. The 36-year-old has gone deep in three of his past five games, tallying seven RBI during that stretch. For the year, he's slashing .234/.310/.405 with eight long balls, 20 RBI, 33 runs scored and one steal across 230 plate appearances.

  • Tanner Bibee SP | CLE

Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Takes tough-luck loss

Bibee (2-8) took the loss against the Astros on Friday, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks with seven strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Bibee entered the sixth inning with a 3-2 lead before allowing two baserunners and departing at 95 pitches. Unfortunately for Bibee, he was charged with both runs and the loss after Matt Festa allowed a three-run homer in relief. It ended a stretch of three straight quality starts for the 27-year-old Bibee, though he still owns a 2.21 ERA through three June outings. He'll carry a 4.03 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 78:28 K:BB across 89.1 total innings into a road matchup against the White Sox next week.

  • Tatsuya Imai SP | HOU

Astros' Tatsuya Imai: Strikes out 11 in win

Imai (4-3) earned the win against the Guardians on Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and no walks with 11 strikeouts over six innings.

Imai allowed three runs in the third inning but was otherwise as good as he's been in an Astros uniform, registering a season-high 11 punchouts while not issuing a walk for just the second time in 10 contests. He leaned heavily on his slider, generating a whopping 17 of his 20 swinging strikes on the pitch while throwing it 57 percent of the time. The 28-year-old still owns an ugly 6.15 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 48:24 K:BB across 41 innings this season and will try to build on this performance in a road matchup against the Tigers next week.

  • Jeremy Pena SS | HOU

Astros' Jeremy Pena: Homers twice in rout

Pena went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the Guardians.

Pena was a thorn in the Guardians' side all game, homering in the third and seventh innings before adding an RBI single in the eighth. The shortstop has now recorded multiple hits in three straight games, piling up four extra-base hits and six RBI during that stretch. For the year, he's slashing .289/.351/.461 with six home runs, 18 RBI, 28 runs scored and five steals across 168 plate appearances.

  • Sean Newcomb RP | CHW

White Sox's Sean Newcomb: Opening Saturday's contest

Newcomb (triceps) will serve as the opening pitcher during Saturday's game against the Tigers, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Newcomb was removed from his last appearance with a triceps contusion after getting hit by a comebacker, but he seems to be feeling well enough to take on his first opening assignment of the season Saturday. The 33-year-old southpaw has been one of the most reliable members of Chicago's bullpen this season, turning in a 2.76 ERA and 1.04 WHIP across 42.1 frames. He could remain in the game for multiple innings before allowing the bullpen to take over.

  • Mike Soroka SP | ARI

Diamondbacks' Michael Soroka: Exits early Friday

Soroka was removed from Friday's game against the Twins with posterior left hip discomfort.

Soroka gave up two hits in a scoreless first inning Friday but felt something while warming up for the second and was taken out of the game. It's unclear whether his injury will prevent him from making his next start, but the D-backs should provide an update on his status in the near future.
