Mariners general manager Justin Hollander said July 31 that Crawford is expected to be "a couple weeks down" after requiring an injection to relieve inflammation in his left wrist, MLB.com reports.

Crawford was expected to rest for 3-to-5 days following the injection, so he may have already started up the process of ramping back up. The veteran infielder is eligible to return from the injured list Sunday, but it looks like he'll need more time to complete a full range of baseball activities before the Mariners bring him back from the shelf. Brendan Donovan returned from the IL on Tuesday and has settled in as the Mariners' primary third baseman, so Crawford could be headed for a utility role once he's activated.

Donovan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

The Mariners will keep the left-handed-hitting Donovan on the bench Sunday and go with Weston Wilson at third base while southpaw Ian Seymour draws the start for the Rays. Since returning from the injured list Tuesday, Donovan has started in four of six contests while going 2-for-13 at the dish.

The Brewers designated Rom for assignment Sunday.

Rom will give up his spot on the 40-man roster to outfielder Ji Hwan Bae, who signed a minor-league deal with the Brewers earlier Sunday before being elevated to the big leagues after Cooper Pratt (hamstring) moved to the injured list in a corresponding move. A 26-year-old lefty, Rom was previously up for two stints in the majors earlier this season, logging a 3.18 ERA and 1.76 WHIP in 5.2 innings over five relief appearances.

The Brewers signed Bae to a minor-league contract and added him to the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster ahead of Sunday's game against the Twins.

Bae was part of the Brewers' taxi squad to begin the day but ended up being activated after shortstop Cooper Pratt (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list shortly before first pitch. With Pratt on the shelf, Joey Ortiz (neck) and David Hamilton are expected to serve as the Brewers' main options at shortstop, while Bae will bolster the club's bench. The 27-year-old has seen big-league action in each of the previous four seasons but had spent the entire 2026 campaign at the Triple-A level in the Mets organization before he was released earlier this month. Bae produced a .257/.360/.368 slash line with five home runs and 36 steals in 91 games at Triple-A and made starts at second base and all three outfield positions.

Hays agreed to a one-year contract with the Padres on Sunday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

After the White Sox activated Hays from the 60-day injured list and designated him for assignment Wednesday, he ended up hitting the open market a few days later upon clearing waivers. The Padres will end up bringing Hays aboard on a low-cost deal with the hope that the 31-year-old can fill the short side of a platoon in the corner outfield, and he could even push into an everyday role if he gets hot at the plate to begin his time in the organization. Hays generated a lowly .576 OPS over 44 plate appearances with the White Sox this season but was productive during a recent 11-game rehab stint at Triple-A Charlotte, slashing .279/.289/.605.

Lopez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

Lopez had started the last five games, but the left-handed hitter will retreat to the bench against southpaw Cade Povich. Justin Foscue will step in for Lopez at second base and bat sixth.

Pederson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

After going 1-for-7 with a home run and two RBI as the designated hitter in the first two contests of the series, Pederson will head to the bench against lefty Cade Povich. Corey Seager will get a break from playing shortstop but will stay in the lineup at DH.

Carter is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles.

After starting in each of the last eight games, the left-handed-hitting Carter will retreat to the bench Sunday while southpaw Cade Povich toes the slab for the Orioles. Cam Cauley will replace Carter in center field and will bat ninth.

O'Neill will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup Sunday against the Rangers.

O'Neill will draw a third straight start after getting on base five times in the first two contests of the series. Since the All-Star break, O'Neill has posted a 1.026 OPS over 15 games, and his red-hot bat looks like it has earned him more opportunities against right-handed pitching.

Taveras will start in right field and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Trade-deadline pickup Christian Franklin picked up starts in the outfield in the Orioles' first two games this week, but he'll hit the bench for a fourth straight contest while Taveras once again plays ahead of him. Taveras has gone just 2-for-10 with a double, a walk and a run scored over the previous three games, so he still has some work to do before solidifying himself as the Orioles' everyday right fielder.
