The Jets are slated to trade Fields (knee) to the Chiefs in exchange for a sixth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports With Patrick Mahomes recovering from a torn ACL that he sustained Dec. 14, Fields should have an opportunity to work as Kansas City's QB1 this offseason, provided he's past the knee issue he dealt with at the end of the 2025 season. Beyond that, it's possible that Fields -- whose ability as a rusher boosts his fantasy utility -- will begin the 2026 campaign as the team's starter, a potential scenario that hinges on the pace of Mahomes' recovery. Per Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site, coach Andy Reid noted in February that Mahomes has been making good progress in that regard, while the star signal-caller previously noted that he wants to be ready for Week 1 yet acknowledged that he "can't predict what happens throughout the process," per ESPN.com.

The Jets placed Fields (knee) on injured reserve Wednesday, Susanna Weir of the team's official site reports. Head coach Aaron Glenn announced Tuesday that Fields would be shut down for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, so the latter's placement on IR was a procedural move to open a spot on the 53-man roster for safety Christopher Smith. Fields posted a 2-7 record across nine starts this season, completing 62.7 percent of his passes for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns, one interception and 27 sacks while turning 71 carries into 383 yards (5.4 YPC) and four scores. Fields will enter the second year of his two-year, $40 million contract in 2026, though it's unclear whether he'll be part of the Jets' future plans.

Fields (knee) won't start Sunday's game at New Orleans but could be active as the backup if he's healthy, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports. Brady Cook will start, with the backup situation apparently depending on who of Fields or Tyrod Taylor (knee) is healthier.

Fields (knee) wasn't spotted at practice Thursday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. The same applies to Tyrod Taylor (groin), leaving Brady Cook and practice-squad member Adrian Martinez to handle the Jets' QB reps in Thursday's session. Friday's practice thus looms large in terms of the team's Week 15 signal-caller plans, but at this stage looming back-to-back 'DNPs' cloud the statuses of both Fields and Taylor.

Coach Aaron Glenn said that Tyrod Taylor (groin) and Fields (knee) won't practice Wednesday. With both players set to miss practice, the Jets' Week 15 QB situation is very much up in the air. Per Glenn, Brady Cook will handle first-team reps Wednesday, with Adrian Martinez now also in the team's signal-caller mix as Sunday's game against the Jaguars approaches. Both Fields and Taylor are set to be re-evaluated as the week progresses.
