The Saints signed Edwards-Helaire to the practice squad Wednesday. Alvin Kamara came out of this past Sunday's loss to the Commanders with an adductor injury, which is clouding his availability for a Week 16 road matchup with the Packers. If Kamara needs to cede reps to others Monday, Kendre Miller likely would get the first chance to handle early-down work, but Jamaal Williams, Jordan Mims, practice-squad member Xazavian Valladay and now Edwards-Helaire would be candidates for work on game days.

Edwards-Helaire is signing with the Saints on Wednesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. It remains to be seen if Edwards-Helaire will be joining the active roster or going to the practice squad. Either way, the former Chiefs running back could contribute for the stretch run on a Saints team that could be without lead back Alvin Kamara (groin) against the Packers on Monday. Edwards-Helaire didn't appear in a game for the Chiefs during the 2024 season prior to being waived Dec. 16.

The Chiefs waived Edwards-Helaire on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Edwards-Helaire has yet to play in a game this season. After starting the season on the reserve/non-football illness list, Edwards-Helaire has been a healthy inactive each of the last nine contests. The No. 32 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft, Edwards-Helaire appeared in 48 games over his five seasons with the Chiefs, amassing a 441-1,845-12 rushing line and a 89-765-7 receiving line on 122 targets. Still just 25 years old, Edwards-Helaire will have a chance to catch on elsewhere for the remainder of the 2024 season.

Edwards-Helaire is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns. With Edwards-Helaire once again a healthy scratch for Kansas City, Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine and Carson Steele are slated to handle the Chiefs' Week 15 backfield duties.

Edwards-Helaire remains a healthy scratch in a Chiefs backfield that will welcome back Isiah Pacheco (ankle) against the AFC West rival Raiders. Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine and Carson Steele will also dress for Kansas City at running back Friday.
