Demercado and the Chiefs have agreed to terms of a one-year contract, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. Kansas City kicked off free agency by inking Super Bowl LX MVP and former Seahawk Kenneth Walker to lead the Chiefs backfield, and the addition of Demercado continues to the overhaul at the position. Demercado has racked up 126 carries for 819 yards (6.5 YPC) and three touchdowns and hauled in 50 of 70 targets for 324 yards and one more TD in 40 career regular-season games across three campaigns. He'll be in the mix for touches along with Brashard Smith behind Walker in 2026.

The Cardinals will not tender an offer to restricted free agent Demercado prior to the start of the new league year next Wednesday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports. Arizona seemingly doesn't deem Demercado worth the value of the low RFA tender at $3.52 million. Demercado appeared in 13 regular-season games last season, rushing 44 times for 312 scoreless yards. He added 13 catches for 101 yards and one touchdown on 20 targets in the passing game. Demercado could still be brought back at a lower cost, but he'll be free to test the open market.

Demercado turned five carries into 11 yards and gathered in two of three targets for nine yards during Sunday's 37-14 loss at Cincinnati. Demercado actually paced Arizona's backfield with a 53 percent snap share ahead of Michael Carter's 44 percent and Corey Kiner's four percent, but game script resulted in the Cardinals attempting 37 passes versus just 13 combined runs. Carter tallied seven rushes for 29 yards to lead the team on the ground and also added two catches (on four targets) for 14 yards. Since Bam Knight (ankle) joined James Conner (foot) and Trey Benson (knee) on injured reserve after Week 15, Demercado has notched just 12 touches for 50 total yards over the last two games, leaving him on the outside looking in to fantasy relevance Week 18 against the Rams.

Demercado carried five times for 30 yards and failed to haul in his lone target in Sunday's 26-19 loss to the Falcons. After playing just seven snaps on offense in last week's loss to the Texans, Demercado saw increased playing time in Week 16 with the Cardinals placing Bam Knight (ankle) on injured reserve ahead of the game. Demercado ended up playing 18 of the Cardinals' 57 offensive snaps and ripped off gains of at least five yards on four of his carries, but he still played second fiddle to Michael Carter out of the backfield. Carter (11 carries for 65 yards, zero receptions on two targets) ended up logging 30 snaps and appears poised to lead the Arizona backfield in opportunities over the final two weeks of the season.

Demercado should have a role off the bench behind starter Michael Carter in Sunday's game against Atlanta, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports. Demercado seemed to be ahead of Carter on the depth chart for most of the season, but Carter has arguably fared better when tasked with a lead role, while Demercado's success as a bench player hasn't typically translated across larger workloads. Demercado's recent return from a high-ankle sprain may also be a factor, with this being his second game back from a three-game absence. He took just three touches for one yard in last week's 40-20 loss to the Texans, so it didn't come as any surprise Friday when Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon named Carter as the Week 16 starter.
