  • Kyler Murray QB | ARI

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Remains limited Thursday

Murray (foot) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com reports.

After being limited at Wednesday's closed walkthrough, Murray was seen throwing passes to reserve wide receivers Thursday, while Jacoby Brissett worked with the Cardinals' first-team offense, according to Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic. It was a similar breakdown of reps to last Friday before Murray was inactive this past Sunday at Indianapolis due to a mid-foot sprain and yielded the start to Brissett. Nevertheless, Murray has one more chance to prove his health before the Cardinals likely tag him with a designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Packers.

  • Justin Fields QB | NYJ

Jets' Justin Fields: Wants to take more chances

Fields is looking to be more aggressive moving forward but will likely be without top target Garrett Wilson (knee) for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Fields has yet to throw an interception this season, but his cautious approach hasn't led to any success, as the Jets are the last remaining winless team in the NFL. After mustering only 45 passing yards in the team's Week 6 loss to the Broncos, Fields is looking to take more chances moving forward, which may be required to prevent getting benched in favor of Tyrod Taylor. Bouncing back as a passer won't be easy for Fields on Sunday against the Panthers without Wilson, who has the league's second-highest target share this season.

  • Carson Wentz QB | MIN

Vikings' Carson Wentz: Full participant Wednesday

    Wentz (shoulder) practiced fully Wednesday.

Wentz emerged from the Vikings' last game Week 5 against the Browns in London with an injury to his left, non-throwing shoulder. Coach Kevin O'Connell said Wednesday that Wentz handled every throw at Monday's unofficial session, and the veteran signal-caller seemingly maintained that activity level two days later. Per Alec Lewis of The Athletic, O'Connell also wouldn't name a starter for Week 7 between Wentz and second-year pro J.J. McCarthy, who was limited Wednesday in his first practice since he suffered a high right-ankle sprain Week 2. How McCarthy fares as the week continues likely will determine who is under center for Minnesota on Sunday versus the Eagles.

  • J.J. McCarthy QB | MIN

Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Officially limited in return to practice

McCarthy (ankle) was limited at practice Wednesday.

McCarthy thus has logged an official practice for the first time since suffering a high right-ankle sprain Week 2 against the Falcons. Coach Kevin O'Connell told Alec Lewis of The Athletic earlier Wednesday that both McCarthy and Carson Wentz (shoulder) were slated to take part in drills coming out of the Vikings' Week 6 bye, but he also wasn't ready to name a starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Eagles. Wentz himself was a full participant Wednesday, so he appears to be a step ahead of McCarthy on that front, though the latter added that his ankle is "getting there. I wouldn't say it's 100 percent," per Ben Goessling of The Minnesota Star Tribune.

  • Kyler Murray QB | ARI

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Officially limited Wednesday

Murray (foot) was a limited participant at Wednesday's walkthrough, Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Prior to sitting out this past Sunday's game at Indianapolis, Murray managed one limited session Friday, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported late Saturday that the quarterback was tending to a mid-foot sprain that may force him to sit out multiple weeks. Coach Jonathan Gannon told Tyler Drake of ArizonaSports.com on Wednesday that Murray will need to "make sure he's healthy enough to play. We'll progress him along this week and see where he's at." Murray's activity level Thursday and Friday thus will be key for his chances to return Sunday against the Packers, but if he needs more time to recover, Jacoby Brissett is on hand to lead the Cardinals offense.

  • Mac Jones QB | SF

    49ers' Mac Jones: Limited Wednesday

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Jones (knee/oblique) will be limited at practice Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Jones will be joined on the practice field by No. 1 QB Brock Purdy (toe), though the latter will be more limited than the former, according to what Shanahan told Matt Barrows of The Athletic. It's unknown if that means Jones has better odds than Purdy to continue leading the 49ers offense Week 7, but Purdy at least has put himself in a position to see his first game action since Week 4. In four starts in place of Purdy this season, Jones has completed 113 of 168 passes (67.3 percent) for 1,252 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions, rushed 16 times for 23 yards and fumbled three times (one lost).

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Set for limited practice Wednesday

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy (toe) will be a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Purdy has been battling a turf toe injury for most of the season, sitting out Weeks 2 and 3 and 5 and 6 as a result. He was able to log conditioning work on the side last Thursday, and Shanahan told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com on Monday that Purdy would be evaluated Wednesday to see if taking part in practice was possible. Now that Purdy has resumed on-field work, Shanahan said Purdy is more limited than backup quarterback Mac Jones (knee/oblique), per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. It's unclear if that means Jones is a better bet than Purdy to start Sunday's game against the Falcons, but the latter at least is putting himself in a position to return to action.

  • J.J. McCarthy QB | MIN

Vikings' J.J. McCarthy: Starter for Week 7 TBD

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said both McCarthy (ankle) and Carson Wentz (shoulder) will participate in practice Wednesday but declined to name a starter for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

McCarthy returned to practice Monday, coming off Minnesota's bye, for the first time since suffering a right high-ankle sprain Sept. 14. O'Connell had previously indicated that McCarthy would require a full week of practice before being cleared for a return to the lineup, but it remains to be seen whether Wentz might have a chance to retain the No. 1 gig in the event that both quarterbacks are healthy enough to play. Wentz, for his part, is managing an injury to his left, non-throwing shoulder, and O'Connell said he "took a normal amount of throws" at practice Monday.

  • Deshaun Watson QB | CLE

Browns' Deshaun Watson: Progressing, but return on hold

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that he had "no real update" on Watson's (Achilles) status beyond noting that the quarterback is "doing a great job with his rehab," Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.

While Watson -- who suffered a right Achilles tendon rupture in Week 7 last season and then underwent an additional surgery in January -- is eligible to resume practicing at any time since he's already missed the minimum four games to begin the season, the expectation is that the quarterback is still weeks away from getting back on the field. With the Browns having traded away Kenny Pickett in August and Joe Flacco last week, rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders are the only signal-callers currently on the team's active roster.

  • Riley Leonard QB | IND

Colts' Riley Leonard: Stepping in as No. 2 quarterback

Leonard appears in line to serve as the top backup to starting quarterback Daniel Jones for a second straight game Sunday against the Chargers after the Colts placed Anthony Richardson (orbital) on injured reserve Monday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.

After being inactive for the first five games of the season, Leonard suited up as the Colts' No. 2 quarterback during this past Sunday's 31-27 win over the Cardinals due to Richardson sustaining an orbital fracture in a freak pregame accident. With Richardson's injury now set to keep him out for at least four more games, Leonard is the lone healthy option at quarterback on the 53-man roster beyond Jones, though Indianapolis signed veteran Brett Rypien to its practice squad Wednesday. Rypien brings more experience to the table and could eventually make a push for the No. 2 role if he's able to quickly familiarize himself with head coach Shane Steichen's playbook, but Leonard, a rookie sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame, would offer far more fantasy upside if he's forced into action in the event of an injury to Jones. Leonard put his dual-threat abilities on full display during the preseason, carrying seven times for 58 yards while completing 34 of 56 pass attempts (60.7 percent) for 345 yards, one touchdown and one interception over three games.
