  • Quinn Ewers QB | MIA

Dolphins' Quinn Ewers: Emergency QB for Week 2

Ewers (coach's decision) is inactive and will serve as the Dolphins' emergency third-string quarterback for Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Ewers will be Miami's emergency QB3 for a second consecutive week. That means he would only see the field Sunday if both Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson were to leave the game due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Jalen Milroe QB | SEA

Seahawks' Jalen Milroe: Emergency QB for Week 2

Milroe (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the Seahawks' emergency third-string quarterback against the Steelers on Sunday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.

The rookie third-rounder saw the field for one offensive snap and took his lone carry for one yard during the Seahawks' Week 1 loss to the 49ers. However, as the emergency QB, Milroe will be allowed to see the field Sunday only if Sam Darnold and Drew Lock were both to leave the game due to injury, illness or ejection.

  • Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Serving as emergency QB again

Sanders (coach's decision) is inactive and designated as Cleveland's emergency third quarterback for Sunday's Week 2 game against Baltimore.

This is the second straight week to open Sanders' NFL career that he's inactive as the Browns' emergency QB. He'll be eligible to enter Sunday's contest only if both signal-callers ahead of him -- Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel -- are forced out of the game due to injury, illness or suspension.

  • Case Keenum QB | CHI

Bears' Case Keenum: Inactive, serving as emergency QB

Keenum (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Lions but is listed as Chicago's emergency third quarterback, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Keenum won't count against the 53-man game-day roster. However, if Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent exit with an injury, illness or ejection, Keenum would be available to play.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Unlikely to return for Week 3

Purdy (toe/shoulder), who has been ruled out for Sunday's game in New Orleans, is considered unlikely to be available for the 49ers' Week 3 game versus the Cardinals, though his condition has improved over the past week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. "We'll see for next week," one source told Schefter, regarding Purdy's status. "Next week will be tight, but he progressed a lot this week."

Purdy sustained what has been labeled as a turf toe variant in the 49ers' Week 1 win over the Seahawks, and he was also listed with a left shoulder injury on the 49ers' Week 2 report. The toe injury appears to be the more significant issue and is expected to sideline Purdy for anywhere between 2-to-5 weeks, but the 49ers haven't closed the door on the quarterback returning by the short end of that timetable. Considering that Purdy didn't practice in any fashion Week 2, he would likely need to advance to at least limited participation at some point next week to have a realistic shot at suiting up against the Cardinals. Mac Jones will direct the San Francisco offense in Purdy's stead this Sunday and tentatively looks to be the favorite to start under center for the 49ers in Week 3.

  • Hunter Dekkers: Back with New Orleans

Dekkers signed with the Saints' practice squad Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Dekkers will now remain in New Orleans after being cut from the team's practice squad just three days prior. The 24-year-old has yet to appear in an NFL game after throwing for 3,806 yards, 32 touchdowns and 10 interceptions across 13 games for Iowa Western in 2024.

  • 49ers' Adrian Martinez: Elevated Saturday

Martinez was elevated from the 49ers' practice squad to the active roster Saturday.

Martinez signed with the 49ers' practice squad after failing to make the Jets' 53-man roster in late August. Brock Purdy (shoulder) and Kurtis Rourke (knee) are both expected to miss San Francisco's Week 2 matchup against the Saints, so Martinez's signing ensures depth at quarterback. He's expected to back up Mac Jones on Sunday.

  • Mac Jones QB | SF

49ers' Mac Jones: Getting first start under Shanahan

Jones will start Sunday's game at New Orleans in place of Brock Purdy (toe), Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

There have long been rumors about Kyle Shanahan preferring Jones to Trey Lance -- but getting overruled by GM John Lynch -- ahead of the 2021 NFL Draft. The ship that Jones is captaining now isn't nearly as pretty as the one he would've been joining back then, as the 49ers currently have TE George Kittle (hamstring) and WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) on injured reserve, with LT Trent Williams (knee) and WR Jauan Jennings (shoulder) listed as questionable. Jones gets a decent matchup, at least, playing indoors against a Saints team that's less talented than even this injury-riddled version of the 49ers. Reports suggest Jones is likely to start multiple games, although the Niners waited until Friday to rule Purdy out for Week 2.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Officially ruled out

Purdy (toe) has been ruled out for Sunday's game at New Orleans, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Reports suggest he'll likely miss multiple games, but the 49ers waited until Friday to rule Purdy out for Week 2. Mac Jones will step in as the starting quarterback, manning an offense that won't have TE George Kittle (hamstring) or WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) and may also be missing LT Trent Williams (questionable, knee) and WR Jauan Jennings (questionable, shoulder). Purdy's next chance to play is Week 3 against the Cardinals, although it doesn't sound likely even if the Niners leave things open-ended.

  • Tanner McKee QB | PHI

Eagles' Tanner McKee: Listed as questionable

McKee (thumb) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.

McKee got in a limited practice Friday, giving him a chance to back up Jalen Hurts versus Kansas City. If McKee is unable to suit up, Sam Howell will once again handle QB2 duties for the Eagles.
