Skylar Thompson QB | PIT
Steelers' Skylar Thompson: Inactive, serving as emergency QB
Thompson (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's Week 1 clash against the Seahawks but is listed as Pittsburgh's emergency third quarterback, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
Thompson landed on the injury report Friday due to a hamstring issue, but he's at least healthy enough to be available should both Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph exit with an injury, illness or ejection. Thompson is third in Pittsburgh's QB pecking order, so he'd likely have been inactive as the emergency third quarterback even had the hamstring issue not popped up. His participation (or lack thereof) in practice next week should provide insight about his progression from the injury.

Quinn Ewers QB | MIA
Dolphins' Quinn Ewers: Serving as emergency QB in Week 1
Ewers is inactive and will work as Miami's emergency third quarterback Sunday versus Indianapolis.
Ewers is third in the Dolphins' QB pecking order, so his inactive status comes as no surprise. In order for the 2025 seventh-round draft selection to be eligible to enter Sunday's contest, both Tua Tagovailoa and Zach Wilson would need to be sidelined due to injury, illness or ejection.

Tommy DeVito QB | NE
Patriots' Tommy DeVito: QB3 for Week 1
DeVito (coach's decision) is inactive but will serve as the Patriots' emergency third-string quarterback against the Raiders on Sunday.
As the emergency quarterback, DeVito will be allowed to see the field only in the event that both Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs are removed from Sunday's contest. DeVito failed to make the Giants' 53-man roster at the end of training camp but was claimed off waivers by the Patriots in late August to provide depth at quarterback.

Kyler Murray QB | ARI
Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Suiting up Sunday despite illness
Murray (illness) is listed as active for Sunday's game at New Orleans, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.
The Cardinals tacked on Murray to their Week 1 injury report Sunday morning due to an illness, but there was an expectation all along he'd be able to suit up. Whether or not he'll be able to make it through the entire game unscathed remains to be seen, but if Murray needs to step off the field at any point, Jacoby Brissett is on hand to direct Arizona's offense in such a scenario.
-
Riley Leonard QB | IND
Colts' Riley Leonard: Emergency QB for Week 1
Leonard (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins but will serve as the emergency third-string quarterback.
The rookie sixth-rounder will be allowed to see the field only if both Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson were removed from Sunday's game due to injury. Leonard had a solid preseason, completing 34 of 56 passes for 345 yards, one touchdown and one interception across three games while adding seven carries for 58 yards.

Shedeur Sanders QB | CLE
Browns' Shedeur Sanders: Designated as emergency QB
Sanders (coach's decision) is inactive but designated as the emergency third quarterback for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
This move comes as little surprise, as coach Kevin Stefanski made clear that Sanders would begin the season third on the quarterback depth chart. Dillon Gabriel will serve as Joe Flacco's backup in Week 1.

Kyler Murray QB | ARI
Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Set to play through illness
The Cardinals added Murray to their Week 1 injury report with an illness, though he doesn't have a designation and is on track to play Sunday in New Orleans.
Per Zach Gershman of the Cardinals' official site, Murray never appeared on any of the injury reports that the team issued Wednesday through Friday, so the illness is likely something that cropped up at some point over the weekend. At this stage, the Cardinals don't appear to be viewing the ailment as anything that will prevent Murray from starting, though fantasy managers may nonetheless want to keep an eye on news pertaining to his status leading up to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff just to ensure his condition hasn't taken a turn for the worse.

Jaxson Dart QB | NYG
Giants' Jaxson Dart: Could have role in Week 1 game plan
Dart will be active as the top backup to Russell Wilson in Sunday's game at Washington, and the Giants could have a package of plays designed for the rookie quarterback, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.
Earlier in the week, the Giants listed Dart as their No. 2 quarterback on their unofficial depth chart, a sign that the 22-year-old had beaten out veteran Jameis Winston for the top backup gig on the heels of an excellent preseason in which he completed 32 of 47 attempts for 372 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while adding six carries for 52 yards and another score. Though the Giants will turn to the veteran Wilson to direct the offense in the season opener, the No. 25 overall pick in the draft appears to have made a strong enough impression over the summer to potentially put himself in the mix for a role in Week 1 that may take advantage of his rushing ability. According to Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, Dart frequently subbed in for Wilson in the red zone late in drives during training camp, so the Giants could look to use Dart in short-yardage situations in particular. Dart remains likely to get the chance to start at some point during his rookie season, though Wilson would presumably need to perform poorly before the coaching staff would consider a changing of the guard under center.

Sam Ehlinger QB | DEN
Broncos' Sam Ehlinger: Signed to active roster
Ehlinger was signed to Denver's active roster from the practice squad Saturday, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
Ehlinger spent the entire preseason with Denver only to be cut in late August. He's likely in line to be inactive but designated as the emergency quarterback in Week 1 against Tennessee.

Jake Haener QB | KC
Jake Haener: Cut by New Orleans
The Saints waived Haener on Saturday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Haener was cut by New Orleans last week but signed with the team's practice squad after he cleared waivers. If he clears waivers again, it would make sense for the quarterback to return to the practice squad at some point.
