Derek Carr QB | NO
Saints' Derek Carr: Shoulder situation remains murky
Carr (shoulder) has been to New Orleans twice in recent weeks to meet with the Saints' team doctor, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports.
Carr ended the 2025 season on the sidelines with a broken left hand and an oblique injury that he suffered in Week 14 against the Giants, but it has now come to light that his current shoulder issue stems from that same game. The quarterback apparently didn't notice the issue right away due to being shut down from throwing while recovering from the aforementioned injuries. Once he began ramping up for the team's spring program, the shoulder problem became apparent. Carr has yet to make a decision on if he'll undergo surgery, and his availability for the start of the season remains unclear. Tyler Shough, taken in the second round of the 2025 Draft, could emerge as the starting QB if Carr misses time.

Matthew Stafford QB | LAR
Rams' Matthew Stafford: Finalizes two-year, $84M deal
Stafford and the Rams finalized terms on a two-year, $84 million contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Stafford finally put pen to paper Monday after the two sides agreed to continue their relationship back in February. Stafford will collect $44 million in 2025, and if he's on the roster at the start of the 2026 league year, he'll earn another $40 million for that season. Stafford recently turned 37 years old this offseason, but coach Sean McVay has already stated he believes the quarterback has multiple good seasons left in the tank. Stafford completed 65.8 percent of his passes last season, throwing for 3,762 yards and a 20:8 TD:INT across 16 regular-season starts.

Jordan Travis QB | NYJ
Jets' Jordan Travis: Announces medical retirement
Travis (lower leg) informed the Jets on Wednesday of his intention to medically retire from the NFL.
Travis, a 2024 fifth-round pick, missed his entire rookie year while rehabbing from a serious left leg injury sustained during his final season at Florida State, and which has now resulted in him being advised to step away from the game of football. In his statement, Travis writes: "I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I've been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply."

Ben DiNucci QB | DEN
Ben DiNucci: Cut by New Orleans
DiNucci was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
DiNucci signed a reserve/future contract with the Saints in January, but with the team selecting Tyler Shough in the second round of last week's 2025 NFL Draft, DiNucci is the odd man out. The quarterback last appeared in an NFL contest in 2020 with the Cowboys and he'll likely have to settle for a practice squad spot to open the 2025 season.

Jaren Hall QB | SEA
Jaren Hall: Let go by Seattle
Hall was cut by the Seahawks on Tuesday, John Boyle of the team's official website reports.
Hall spent the entirety of the 2024 campaign with Seattle, the majority of which was spent on the practice squad. The quarterback was elevated multiple times and ultimately signed to the active roster late last season, but he did not appear in a game. Hall appeared in three contests, including a start, with the Vikings in 2023, completing 13 of 20 passes for 168 yards, while adding 14 rushing yards on six carries, but he did lose two fumbles and throw an interception as well. Hall will look for a fresh start ahead of the 2025 season.

Kenny Pickett QB | CAR
Browns' Kenny Pickett: Will have fifth-year option declined
The Browns aren't expected to pick up Pickett's fifth-year option, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
Cleveland traded for Pickett in a deal that sent Dorian Thompson-Robinson to the Eagles in March, but the organization appears unwilling to commit to giving the former Steeler $22.1 million in guaranteed money by picking up his option. That decision may have been influenced in part by the Browns adding two quarterbacks -- Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders -- via the draft, and the team also re-signed veteran Joe Flacco in mid-April. All four are expected to compete for the Browns' starting QB role during training camp, though Deshaun Watson may have a chance of reclaiming that job when he eventually returns from a ruptured Achilles.

Payton Thorne QB | CIN
Payton Thorne: Heading to Cincy
Thorne is slated to sign with the Bengals as an undrafted free agent, Chris Roling of USA Today reports.
The quarterback started for two years at Michigan State (2021 and 2022) and then for two more years after transferring to Auburn (2023 and 2024), making 47 collegiate starts in all over the past four campaigns. Last year at Auburn, Thorne recorded 2,713 yards and 21 touchdowns against nine interceptions. On the Cincinnati depth chart, Jake Browning has served as Joe Burrow's primary backup for the past two seasons, while incumbent third stringer Logan Woodside spent time with the team last year, though Thorne could perhaps compete with him for a roster or practice squad spot.

Kenny Pickett QB | CAR
Browns' Kenny Pickett: Team adds two rookies to QB room
Pickett has been joined in Cleveland's quarterback room by rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, whom the Browns drafted in the third and fifth rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, respectively.
Cleveland's quarterback depth chart now runs five players deep, including Deshaun Watson, who isn't expected to be available for the beginning of the season as he recovers from a torn Achilles. After trading for Pickett on March 10, the Browns signed the 40-year-old Joe Flacco on April 11, then drafted Gabriel out of Oregon and Sanders out of Colorado. Sanders was viewed as a likely first-round pick before surprisingly dropping in the draft, so he has more immediate upside than the typical fifth-round draft pick. Pickett may be able to thread the needle and win the starting job as a far younger option than Flacco but one with more experience than Sanders or Gabriel, but even in that scenario, Pickett would likely be on a short leash with no shortage of available alternatives under center.

Joe Flacco QB | CIN
Browns' Joe Flacco: Team adds two QBs in draft
Flacco will face additional competition from rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, whom the Browns drafted in the third and fifth rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft, respectively.
Deshaun Watson isn't expected to be available for the beginning of the season as he recovers from a torn Achilles, but Cleveland now has four potential Week 1 starting options in Flacco (signed April 11), Kenny Pickett (traded for March 10), Gabriel out of Oregon and Sanders out of Colorado. Even if the 40-year-old Flacco wins the job initially in camp, it likely won't take long until Cleveland turns to one of the three younger options, who possess significantly more long-term upside, especially because Sanders was viewed as a likely first-round pick before surprisingly dropping in the draft.

Drew Lock QB | SEA
Seahawks' Drew Lock: Faces competition for backup job
Lock will face competition for the No. 2 quarterback job behind Sam Darnold after the Seahawks selected Jalen Milroe in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft
For a brief moment, the Seahawks had three capable backups in their quarterback room, but they traded Sam Howell to the Vikings on Day 3 of the draft. Thus, Lock will need to earn the No. 2 job in his second stint with the Seahawks. Milroe has unique tools for the position, showcasing 4.4 speed and a marvelous deep ball, while Lock has experience on his side and is one of the better backups in the league.
