Shane Buechele QB | BUF
Shane Buechele: Does not make cut
Buechele was waived by the Chiefs on Tuesday.
Blaine Gabbert was always the likely backup to Patrick Mahomes under center, so this is a relatively unsurprising move by the Chiefs. The 25-year-old has not suited up for an NFL game during his tenure in the league, but he did spend the majority of the 2021 season on Kansas City's practice squad. It remains to be seen if he will get another opportunity there.

Jameis Winston QB | NYG
Saints' Jameis Winston: Doesn't practice Tuesday
Winston (wrist) was held out of practice Tuesday, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
Winston hurt his wrist in the Saints' exhibition finale Sunday against Houston. The veteran quarterback put together a solid preseason, completing 35 of 50 pass attempts for 354 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. His injury has been deemed minor, so it's likely that Winston will be ready to go as Derek Carr's backup when New Orleans begins the regular season Sept. 10 at home against Tennessee.

Will Grier QB | CAR
Will Grier: Parts ways with Dallas
The Cowboys released Grier on Tuesday.
Grier's release was expected after the Cowboys acquired Trey Lance recently, but the 2019 third-rounder still performed well in Saturday's preseason finale against the Raiders. Grier completed 29 of 35 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing 10 times for 53 yards and two additional scores. Given his results, it's possible he finds a role with another team, even if he has to settle for a spot on a practice squad.

David Blough QB | DET
David Blough: Cut by Arizona
Blough was cut by the Cardinals on Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
The quarterback re-signed with the team in April after starting two games at the end of last season in place of the injured Kyler Murray. Blough has seven career starts and an 0-7 record in four seasons with four different teams.

Joe Burrow QB | CIN
Bengals' Joe Burrow: Return to practice TBD
Coach Zac Taylor noted Tuesday that Burrow's contract situation isn't a factor in the quarterback -- who is dealing with a strained right calf -- continuing to miss practice, Ben Baby of ESPN reports.
Taylor was non-committal when asked if the QB would return to practice this week, however. Burrow is eligible for a new contract now that he's entering the fourth year of his rookie deal, per Kelsey Conway of the Cincinnati Enquirer. With Trevor Siemian having been released, Jake Browning is now the team's No. 2 QB behind Burrow, though a third option at the position could well be added ahead of Week 1.

Alex McGough QB | GB
Alex McGough: Let go by Green Bay
The Packers waived McGough on Tuesday, Wes Hodkiewicz of the team's official site reports.
McGough got his first preseason action on Saturday against the Seahawks. He completed four of five passes for 69 yards including a 52-yard pass on the game-winning drive in the fourth quarter. He was a longshot to win the backup spot against 2023 fifth-round pick Sean Clifford, but McGough could return to the Packers' practice squad once he clears waivers.
-
Ian Book QB | PHI
Ian Book: Misses cut
The Eagles waived Book on Tuesday, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
No surprise here, as Book was the No. 4 quarterback on Philly's depth chart. The Notre Dame product has suited up for just one game since entering the league. However, that game was a start with New Orleans, and he ultimately went 12 for 20 on his way to 135 yards and two interceptions. The 25-year-old is now set to look for a new opportunity.
-
Jake Fromm QB | DET
Jake Fromm: Gets cut loose
Fromm was waived by the Commanders on Tuesday, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.
Fromm was working to beat out Jacoby Brissett for the team's No. 2 quarterback position, or at least convince them to keep three, but ultimately he was unable to do so. The Georgia product will now hope to land a practice squad spot.
-
Tim Boyle QB | TEN
Tim Boyle: Cut by Jets
The Jets released Boyle on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Boyle showed steady improvement over the Jets' three preseason games, but his performances weren't enough to land him a spot on the 53-man roster. Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson will begin the year as the team's two active quarterbacks, while Boyle could land on the team's practice squad if he doesn't find work elsewhere.

Nathan Peterman QB | ATL
Nathan Peterman: Cut by Chicago
The Bears released Peterman on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Peterman served as the Bears' backup quarterback in 2022, but Tyson Bagent secured the role to begin the 2023 campaign. However, Peterman made some solid plays during the preseason and is a strong candidate to wind up on the Bears' practice squad.
