  • Jameis Winston QB | NYG

Saints' Jameis Winston: Logs 7-on-7 work

Winston (knee/foot) participated in practice Sunday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.

Winston, who is bouncing back from the ACL tear in his left knee that cut short his 2021 campaign, had also been dealing with a foot sprain, but he was able to work in 7-on-7 drills Sunday. It remains to be seen if the QB is a candidate to see action in the Saints' preseason finale Friday against the Chargers, but barring any setbacks, Winston is trending toward a Week 1 start for the team.

  • Eagles' Gardner Minshew: Efficient in exhibition

Minshew completed 14 of 17 passes for 142 yards in Sunday's 21-20 preseason win over the Browns.

Minshew played the entire first half and was rather efficient throwing the ball, particularly when targeting wideout Deon Cain. The pair connected on back-to-back plays of 24 and 23 yards during the second quarter, helping Philadelphia carry a 14-13 lead into halftime. Although Jalen Hurts is slated to start at quarterback for the Eagles this season, Minshew embodies one of the league's better second-string options, as he showed in Sunday's exhibition victory.

  • Kyle Trask QB | TB

Buccaneers' Kyle Trask: Ragged performance Saturday

Trask completed 11 of 24 passes for 105 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Buccaneers' 13-3 preseason loss to the Titans on Saturday night. He also committed two fumbles, recovering both.

A week after putting together an encouraging body of work in the preseason opener against the Dolphins, Trask's night started poorly when he came in for Tampa Bay's third offensive series of the game and never really got much better. The second-year signal-caller took a sack on his first dropback, and the Buccaneers gained all of 49 yards and turned the ball over twice, including once via a Trask interception, on his first six possessions to wrap up the first half. The offense showed more life by amassing 86 yards and a field goal on 17 plays over the first pair of second-half drives, but Trask's night is difficult to label as anything other than disappointing, although abysmal play by the offensive line that helped lead to four sacks of the young quarterback naturally didn't help. Assuming Tom Brady (personal) returns to the team early this coming week as reported by Greg Auman of The Athletic, Trask's ongoing growing pains are at least relegated to the back burner with veteran Blaine Gabbert still a buffer between the future Hall of Famer and the University of Florida product in the regular season.

  • Joshua Dobbs QB | NE

Browns' Joshua Dobbs: Scores in Sunday's start

Dobbs completed 14 of 20 passes for 141 yards and rushed four times for 47 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-20 preseason loss to the Eagles.

Dobbs started and played the entire first half as well as Cleveland's opening series of the third quarter. He led the Browns to scores on each of his four drives, including a three-yard touchdown rush of his own during the first quarter. After a successful showing, Dobbs handed a 20-14 lead over to Josh Rosen, who subsequently completed just 7 of 20 passes for 88 yards. Based on that contrast, it's fair to say Dobbs outperformed Rosen, as the pair compete to serve as Jacoby Brissett's backup heading into the regular season, when fellow quarterback Deshaun Watson will be suspended for the first 11 games.

  • Drew Lock QB | SEA

Seahawks' Drew Lock: Back at practice

Lock (illness) returned to practice Sunday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.

Lock sat out this past Thursday's preseason game (which he had been in line to start) against the Bears after testing positive for COVID-19, but he's back on the field Sunday and thus is a candidate to start this coming Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys. At this stage, the Seahawks' unofficial posted depth chart lists Geno Smith (knee bruise) ahead of Lock, but the team has yet to announce which of the two QBs is slated to start Seattle's regular-season opener against the Broncos on Monday, Sept. 12.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Not in line to see preseason action

Murray (wrist) confirmed earlier this week that he isn't in line to play in the preseason, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports.

Murray is bouncing back from some wrist soreness, but he's been practicing of late, so the issue isn't anything that figures to impact his status for the regular season. For now, the franchise signal-caller will focus on building chemistry ahead of Week 1 with an Arizona wideout corps that will be minus DeAndre Hopkins (six-game suspension) to begin the season, but the group has been bolstered by the offseason addition of Marquise Brown. With Murray not slated to play and Colt McCoy dealing with an injury, Dan Santaromita of The Athletic indicates that Trace McSorley is expected to start Sunday's preseason game against the Ravens.

  • Daniel Jones QB | IND

Giants' Daniel Jones: Could be held out Sunday

The Giants' coaching staff is rethinking plans to have starters such as Jones and Saquon Barkley play in Sunday's preseason contest against Cincinnati, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

Jones, Barkley and most other healthy starters originally were expected to play in the second preseason contest -- as they did in the first -- but the team's offensive line is so banged up that head coach Brian Daboll may instead elect to hold key starters out. Leonard notes that the Giants are down to their sixth-string center for the game against the Bengals, and the staff no doubt values keeping starters healthy over allowing them to play a few series in an exhibition contest.

  • Will Grier QB | CAR

Cowboys' Will Grier: Groin injury still a concern

Grier may have aggravated his groin injury during Saturday's preseason game, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.

After the contest, head coach Mike McCarthy described the quarterback's performance as "gritty," suggesting he may not have been 100 percent. Grier has looked good at times during training camp when he's been healthy, but he'll likely need to significantly outperform Cooper Rush in the Cowboys' final preseason game Friday to have a real chance at claiming the No. 2 job.

  • Joshua Dobbs QB | NE

Browns' Joshua Dobbs: Draws Sunday start

Dobbs will start Sunday's preseason game against the Eagles.

With Deshaun Watson and Jacoby Brissett not in line to play Sunday, Dobbs will draw the start versus Philadelphia, with Josh Rosen next in line to see QB snaps. Given that Watson will be suspended to begin the 2022 season, as things stand either Dobbs or Rosen are in line to serve as Brissett's top backup Week 1.

  • Bears' Justin Fields: Expected to sit in preseason finale

Fields and the Bears' starters aren't expected to play Saturday against the Browns, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports.

The upcoming absences likely will come to pass to avoid injuries to key Bears in an unnecessary game. Assuming Fields sits this one out, we'll see him Week 1 against the 49ers.
