  • Logan Thomas TE | SF

Commanders' Logan Thomas: Good to go for opener

Thomas (calf) wasn't listed Wednesday on the Commanders' Week 1 injury report.

Thomas' absence from the injury report confirms that he's completed his recovery from the calf strain that kept him out of practice and preseason games for nearly all of August. He'll likely reclaim his role as the team's top receiving tight end this Sunday against the Cardinals, though he could cede a few routes and snaps to Cole Turner as well as blocking tight end John Bates.

  • Josh Whyle TE | GB

Titans' Josh Whyle: Dodges injury report Wednesday

Whyle (ankle) wasn't included on Tennessee's first Week 1 injury report released Wednesday, Turron Davenport of ESPN.com reports.

The rookie fifth-round draft pick was forced out of the Titans' preseason finale with an ankle injury, but he looks to be back to full speed ahead of Week 1. Whyle isn't expected to hold a major role in the passing game in 2023 while he's stuck behind Chigoziem Okonkwo on the depth chart at tight end in what projects to be a run-first Tennessee offense.

  • Travis Kelce TE | KC

Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Listed as questionable for opener

Kelce (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Lions.

Kelce hyperextended his knee during Tuesday's practice and was tagged as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report. The fact that he's listed as questionable for the season opener supports the notion that Kelce has avoided a long-term issue, but in any event, a decision on his Week 1 status could go down the wire ahead of Thursday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. If Kelce is unable to face Detroit, Noah Gray would likely fill in as the Chiefs' top pass-catching tight end, while Kelce's high volume of targets would be spread around out among Gray and the team's receivers and running backs.

  • Mark Andrews TE | BAL

Ravens' Mark Andrews: Back at practice, as promised

Andrews (undisclosed) is participating at Wednesday's practice, Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

Andrews is back on the field after having missed Baltimore's last six practices due to an undisclosed injury. The Ravens' first official injury report of the week will be released later Wednesday and will reveal whether Andrews was limited or practiced without restrictions. Head coach John Harbaugh has repeatedly downplayed the severity of Andrews' undisclosed injury.

  • Travis Kelce TE | KC

Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Week 1 status TBD

Kelce, who hyperextended his knee during Tuesday's practice, is thought to be dealing with a bone bruise ahead of Thursday's season opener against the Lions, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero report.

While Kelce is believed to have avoided a long-term knee injury, the timing of the injury clouds his Week 1 status. Per the report, once the swelling in the tight end's knee decreases, the Chiefs should have more insight regarding his chances of facing the Lions. Added context on that front will arrive no later than Wednesday, when the Chiefs' will post their final Week 1 injury report.

  • Noah Gray TE | KC

Chiefs' Noah Gray: Could start Week 1 if Kelce sits

Gray appears to be first in line to serve as Kansas City's top pass-catching tight end in Thursday's game against the Lions if Travis Kelce (knee) is sidelined for the contest, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.

Kelce departed Tuesday's practice with a hyperextended knee, and while the team's initial feeling is that the eight-time Pro Bowler avoided a long-term injury, his status is still in doubt for Thursday's season opener, per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. If Kelce ends up sitting or is limited in some capacity Thursday, Gray likely wouldn't command the same sort of target volume, but the third-year Duke product may still draw enough looks to make for an intriguing streaming option. Even though Kelce suited up for all 17 regular-season games in 2022, Gray played north of 50 percent of the offensive snaps in 12 of those contests and turned in a 28-299-1 receiving line on 34 targets while also scoring on his lone rushing attempt. Blake Bell is the only other tight end on the 53-man roster, but Matt Bushman could be elevated from the practice squad to add depth.

  • Travis Kelce TE | KC

Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Status in doubt for season opener

Kelce isn't believed to have suffered a long-term injury after hyperextending his knee in Tuesday's practice, but his status is in doubt for Thursday's season opener versus the Lions, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network report.

Kansas City won't know the full extent of Kelce's injury until the swelling in his knee subsides enough for him to receive X-rays and/or undergo an MRI, but the initial belief is that the standout tight end won't face an extended absence. However, with Kelce sustaining the injury just two days before the season opener, he may not have sufficient time to heal up enough to play. Kansas City will provide a Week 1 injury designation for Kelce at the conclusion of Wednesday's practice, and if the eight-time Pro Bowler ends up being held out Thursday, Noah Gray would likely step in as the team's top pass-catching tight end.

  • Travis Kelce TE | KC

Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Listed as limited Tuesday

Kelce was listed as a limited practice participant Tuesday after head coach Andy Reid revealed that the tight end exited the session early after hyperextending his knee.

Reid didn't elaborate much further on the severity of Kelce's injury but did note that the eight-time Pro Bowler's availability for Thursday's season opener versus the Lions is now uncertain. Per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, teammate Skyy Moore -- who was running a route when Kelce suffered the injury -- noted the tight end was able to walk off the field without any assistance from the training staff. While Moore's comments offer some reassurance about Kelce's health, Kansas City won't know the full scope of his injury until after he's sent in for further testing. If he's sidelined for Week 1 and any additional games to follow, Noah Gray would be the next man up to start and serve as Kansas City's top pass-catching tight end. Kelce sat out one game in 2021 while in the COVID-19 protocols and missed games for rest purposes in Weeks 17 of the 2017 and 2020 seasons, but he hasn't been sidelined for injury-related reasons since 2013, his first year in the league.

  • Zach Gentry TE | LV

Zach Gentry: Staying in AFC North

Gentry signed with the Bengals' practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The 2019 fifth-round pick re-signed with Pittsburgh in late March before missing the 53-man roster one week ago. Throughout his four-year career in Pittsburgh, Gentry appeared in 40 games and tallied 303 yards on 39 receptions.

  • Travis Kelce TE | KC

Chiefs' Travis Kelce: Hyperextends knee at practice

Kelce suffered a hyperextended knee at Tuesday's practice, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.

Kelce's injury comes just days before Thursday's regular-season opener against the Lions and clouds his status for the contest. Coach Andy Reid called Kelce uncertain for Thursday's game, but he said Kansas City's training staff would continue to monitor his health, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic. Noah Gray would likely step up as the team's top tight end if Kelce were to miss any time, but there's no easy replacement for Patrick Mahomes' favorite target. Top wideouts Kadarius Toney (knee), Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore would likely see bumps in target share if Kelce can't go.
