  • Jerreth Sterns WR | LAR

Buccaneers' Jerreth Sterns: No targets over 16 snaps Saturday

Sterns did not log a target during the Buccaneers' 27-10 preseason loss to the Colts on Saturday night.

The Western Kentucky alum was blanked for the first time this preseason, but it may have been at least partly by design. Greg Auman of The Athletic speculates Sterns may have been purposely underused in the finale in order to potentially make it easier to eventually get him through waivers and onto the practice squad. Sterns still has an opportunity to nab a possible No. 7 receiver spot on the active roster as well, but Auman projects fellow UDFA Deven Thompkins for that slot due to his ability to play special teams.

  • Titans' Dez Fitzpatrick: Another inefficient showing

Fitzpatrick tallied two catches on five targets for 23 yards in Saturday's 26-23 preseason win over the Cardinals.

Fitzpatrick finished second on the team in targets, but he did little with the opportunity. He closes the preseason with five receptions on 11 targets for 62 yards across three games. Fitzpatrick could be on the roster bubble, with the likes of Racey McMath and Cody Hollister potentially surpassing him on the depth chart.

  • C.J. Saunders WR | ATL

Panthers' C.J. Saunders: Back in returner role Friday

Saunders (quadriceps) returned one punt for 23 yards during the Panthers' preseason game Friday.

Saunders returned to the field just under three weeks after being sidelined with a quadriceps strain picked up in early August. The 25-year-old's participation just ahead of Carolina's final roster cuts Tuesday should help his chances to secure a spot over fellow returners Shi Smith and Andre Roberts.

  • Greg Ward WR | IND

Greg Ward: Expected to be waived/injured

Ward (toe) is anticipated to be waived with an injury designation by the Eagles on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Ward has been sidelined with a toe injury for much of this preseason, likely leading to his removal from Philadelphia's now deep corps of wideouts. The 27-year-old saw both his production (seven catches, 95 yards and three touchdowns) and playing time (234 offensive snaps) plummet in 2021 after he caught 81 passes for 673 yards and seven touchdowns over his first two seasons with the Eagles. Ward is now set to pass through waivers before shifting to injured reserve, should no team opt to claim him.

  • Irvin Charles WR | SEA

    Irvin Charles: Waived by Jets

The Jets waived Charles on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Charles was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Division II Indiana (Pa.) and played well during training camp. Per Wilson, the Jets plan to sign Charles to their practice squad if he clears waivers.

  • Panthers' Laviska Shenault: Shipped to Carolina

The Panthers acquired Shenault from the Jaguars on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Shenault appeared to be ticketed for a backup role behind Christian Kirk had he been included on the Jaguars' Week 1 roster, and though he won't necessarily have a clear path to a regular spot in three-wide sets in Carolina, the 24-year-old at least will give the Panthers a versatile weapon who's capable of lining up all over the formation. DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson (quadriceps) are locked into starting roles on the outside, but Shenault should provide competition in the slot for Terrace Marshall, who is coming off a disappointing rookie season. Even if he fails to unseat Marshall on the depth chart, Shenault should see involvement on the ground, given that he was often deployed in a change-of-pace capacity out of the Jacksonville backfield. For his career, Shenault has averaged a healthy 4.6 yards on 29 carries.

  • Allen Robinson WR | DET

Rams' Allen Robinson: Sits out preseason

Robinson didn't play in Saturday's preseason contest versus Cincinnati.

Coach Sean McVay held true to his word that he would be holding his starters out of preseason action, which means Robinson's first chance to perform for his new team will be on Thursday, Sept. 8 against the Bills. Robinson was given a three-year, $46.5 million contract in the offseason and will be expected to step in as the complementary piece to Cooper Kupp with the departures of Robert Woods and Odell Beckham (knee). Robinson's 2021 campaign with the Bears was a season to forget, with 38 catches (on 66 targets) for 410 yards and just a single touchdown, but with the Bears averaging a paltry 188.6 passing yards per game (30th in the league), the blame can be assigned more towards the offense as a whole than Robinson's contributions. Expect a bounceback for Robinson with Matthew Stafford representing a big upgrade at quarterback and a Rams offense that ranked fifth in the NFL in passing yards per game at 273.1.

  • Kalil Pimpleton: Let go by Detroit

The Lions waived Pimpleton on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Pimpleton, an undrafted wideout out of Central Michigan, has impressed throughout his first NFL offseason, but he finds himself among the first wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline. Per Wilson, he's expected to garner interest from other NFL teams, but if he clears waivers, he'll certainly be a candidate to join Detroit's practice squad.

  • Laquon Treadwell: Released by Jacksonville

The Jaguars released Treadwell on Monday.

Treadwell caught two of six targets for 14 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's preseason finale, but he finds himself among the first wave of cuts ahead of Tuesday's 53-man roster deadline. Treadwell appeared in 12 games for the Jaguars last year, catching 33 of 51 targets for a career-high 434 receiving yards. His release comes as a bit of a surprise, but it shows the Jaguars have confidence in newcomers Christian Kirk and Zay Jones.

  • Andre Baccellia: Let go by Arizona

The Cardinals waived Baccellia (ankle) on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Baccellia didn't play in the Cardinals' last two preseason games after picking up an ankle injury in the team's exhibition opener. However, the undrafted wideout out of Washington is expected to join the Cardinals' practice squad if he clears waivers.
