  • Kadarius Toney WR | CLE

Giants' Kadarius Toney: Handling individual drills

Toney (leg) is participating in individual drills during Tuesday's practice, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.

Toney is also participating in some positional drills Tuesday. The second-year wideout isn't expected to fully practice this week after having sat out the Giants' first preseason contest, but it's encouraging to see him participating in some capacity. New York appears likely to take a cautious approach with Toney's health, so he may not suit up for Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals.

  • Buccaneers' Kaylon Geiger: Four catches in preseason opener

Geiger brought in all four targets for 52 yards and returned one punt for no gain in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.

The undrafted Texas Tech product put some good work on tape during the exhibition opener, checking in second or tied for second in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the night. Andrew Crane of the Tampa Bay Times notes head coach Todd Bowles made specific mention of the rookie's performance, which included 26- and 19-yard catches, noting "Geiger turned it on" when running through which young wideouts made a strong impression during the contest. Despite the encouraging showing, however, Geiger still faces long odds to snag a spot in a deep receiver room, but he could certainly be a candidate for the practice squad with another pair of strong performances this preseason.

  • Buccaneers' Deven Thompkins: Pair of grabs in preseason opener

Thompkins brought in two of three targets for 11 yards, returned one kickoff for 17 yards and ran back one punt for five yards in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.

The rookie put together a solid body of work overall in the preseason opener, and Greg Auman of The Athletic currently projects Thompkins to make the team as a No. 7 receiver due to his ability to contribute on special teams. Thompkins was also a prolific performer as a receiver during his one full season at Utah State, finishing with a school-record 102 receptions and 1,704 yards -- along with 10 touchdowns -- as a senior across 14 games in 2021.

  • Jerreth Sterns WR | LAR

Buccaneers' Jerreth Sterns: Impresses in preseason opener

Sterns secured all four targets for 51 yards and a touchdown in the Buccaneers' 26-24 preseason loss to the Dolphins on Saturday night.

Sterns had a prolific college career at Western Kentucky that included a pair of 100-catch seasons, and he'd been building some momentum in training camp practices heading into Saturday night. Sterns didn't disappoint once the lights went on, highlighting his solid night with a 19-yard touchdown grab midway through the third quarter. While the Buccaneers' top five wideout spots are likely etched in stone when factoring in the projected inclusion of Tyler Johnson on the final 53-man roster, Greg Auman of The Athletic predicts Sterns could be a candidate for a likely No. 7 receiver spot if he can produce similarly in the Buccaneers' final two preseason games.

  • Chase Claypool WR | BUF

    Steelers' Chase Claypool: Practices Monday

Claypool (shoulder) participated in Monday's practice, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Claypool has dealt with a shoulder injury over the first few weeks of camp, but the team doesn't believe that it's a significant issue. The 24-year-old didn't play during the Steelers' preseason opener against the Seahawks on Saturday, and it's not clear whether he was limited at practice Monday. However, it seems unlikely that this injury will impact his availability to begin the regular season.

  • Steelers' Diontae Johnson: Returns to practice Monday

Johnson (hip) participated in Monday's practice, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Johnson dialed down his participation in practice over the last week due to a hip flexor injury, and he was kept off the field for Saturday's preseason opener against Seattle. It's not clear whether Johnson had any limitations Monday, but he said that he's been getting daily reps and going through a routine. He anticipates getting some snaps during Saturday's preseason matchup against the Jaguars. "I'm sure Coach T is going to play me a little this week or next week," Johnson said. "I'm going to be ready to get my feet wet and get ready for Sept. 11." In spite of his recent limitations, it seems like his lack of usage has mainly been a precautionary measure.

  • Miles Boykin WR | CHI

Steelers' Miles Boykin: Doesn't practice Monday

Boykin didn't practice Monday due to a rib injury, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Boykin was on the field for 41 percent of the Steelers' offensive snaps during Saturday's preseason opener against the Seahawks, and he secured two of three targets for 17 yards. However, he apparently sustained a rib injury that kept him off the field Monday. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available for the team's preseason tilt against Jacksonville this Saturday. Boykin could be on the roster bubble ahead of the regular season since George Pickens has made a strong impact during training camp.

  • Jaguars' Christian Kirk: Back in team drills Monday

Kirk (ankle) participated in team drills during Monday's practice that ran at full speed, John Shipley of SI.com reports.

Kirk unsurprisingly was a healthy scratch for the Jaguars in the Hall of Fame Game, but he was spotted working on the side last Wednesday and ultimately didn't play in Friday's preseason contest against the Browns due to an ankle injury. As of Monday, he was back on the field without limitations, including a big connection with Trevor Lawrence. The Jaguars likely want to see more of that in one of Jacksonville's final two exhibitions, be it this Saturday versus the Steelers or Saturday, Aug. 27 in Atlanta.

  • Seahawks' Cody Thompson: Lands on IR

Seattle placed Thompson (shoulder) on injured reserve Monday.

Thompson played just seven offensive snaps before suffering a seemingly significant shoulder injury during the Seahawks' preseason matchup Saturday. The 26-year-old wideout, who appeared in five games for Seattle in 2021, will now have to sit out the entirety of the regular season unless he can reach an injury settlement with the team this offseason.

  • Keshunn Abram WR | NYJ

    Keshunn Abram: Done with Jets

New York waived Abram on Monday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

The undrafted free agent out of Kent State wasn't able to stick with the Jets this summer and will now have to look for another opportunity elsewhere. In the meantime, his departure should open up more opportunities for fellow rookie UDFA Irvin Charles.
