  • DK Metcalf WR | PIT

Seahawks' DK Metcalf: Doesn't play in preseason opener

Metcalf didn't play during the Seahawks' 32-25 preseason loss to the Steelers on Saturday.

Metcalf signed a three-year extension with Seattle in late July, but he was held off the field during Saturday's preseason opener since the Seahawks elected to rest some of their starters. It's not yet clear whether the 24-year-old will see the field at all during the preseason, but his fantasy potential in 2022 is somewhat dependent on the play of Geno Smith or Drew Lock after Russell Wilson was traded to Denver during the offseason.

  • Alec Pierce WR | IND

Colts' Alec Pierce: Two receptions in preseason debut

Pierce had two receptions for 27 yards on three targets in Saturday's preseason loss to Buffalo. He began the game as a starting receiver when the Colts opened in a three-receiver set, 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.

Pierce made both his receptions with the second-team offense as he stayed on the field after Matt Ryan left after four series. Saturday's game showed Pierce is set to be a significant part of the offense right away, even if he comes off the field in two-receiver sets (as has frequently been the case in training camp).

  • George Pickens WR | DAL

Steelers' George Pickens: Makes impressive TD catch Saturday

Pickens secured three of five targets for 43 yards and a touchdown during the Steelers' 32-25 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday.

Pickens served as a starter during Saturday's preseason opener since Diontae Johnson (hip) and Chase Claypool (shoulder) were kept off the field. Pickens was targeted by starter Mitch Trubisky twice and drew three targets from Mason Rudolph between the first and second quarters. Pickens' highlight of the night was an impressive 26-yard touchdown catch in the corner of the end zone late in the first quarter. The 2022 second-rounder was listed as a starter on the Steelers' initial preseason depth chart, but coach Mike Tomlin downplayed the significance of the listing. However, Pickens has made a continual impact over the first few weeks of training camp and could be a factor in the team's offense early in his professional career.

  • Colts' Parris Campbell: No receptions in preseason debut

Campbell was targeted twice in Saturday's preseason loss to Buffalo, but he didn't have a catch and had a drop.

Indy's passing game was sluggish as Matt Ryan had just 58 yards passing over four drives. The good news is that the oft-injured Campbell is healthy after having a sore hamstring last week in practice. Campbell started at wide receiver in a three-receiver set and has mostly started over rookie Alec Pierce in two-receiver sets in practice. Despite the lackluster first game, Campbell should get every chance for a sizeable role if he can stay on the field.

  • Curtis Samuel WR | BUF

Commanders' Curtis Samuel: Two catches against Panthers

Samuel caught both of his targets for 14 yards in Saturday's 23-21 preseason loss to the Panthers.

Samuel was the target of Carson Wentz's first pass, which went for a gain of six yards. Two possessions later, he chipped in an eight-yard reception to give the Commanders a fresh set of downs. Most importantly, Samuel appears to be fully healthy after he managed only 79 total snaps with Washington in 2021.

  • Terry McLaurin WR | WAS

Commanders' Terry McLaurin: Tallies 16-yard reception

McLaurin recorded one catch on two targets for 16 yards in Saturday's 23-21 preseason loss to the Panthers.

The Commanders' offense sputtered on its first two possessions, but McLaurin began the third drive with a 16-yard catch on a pass delivered by Carson Wentz. McLaurin is coming off a relatively disappointing 2021 season, but an upgrade at quarterback provides some optimism that he will be able to return to his 2020 form, when he tallied 87 receptions for 1,118 yards across 15 games.

  • CeeDee Lamb WR | DAL

Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb: Not likely to play Saturday

Lamb isn't slated to suit up for Saturday's preseason game in Denver, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.

All of Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott and running backs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard are in store for no action in the Cowboys' exhibition opener. With Michael Gallup (knee) still on the PUP list and James Washington out until late September due to a broken foot, rookie third-rounder Jalen Tolbert, Noah Brown and Dennis Houston, among others, are the team's available wide receivers Saturday.

  • Jahan Dotson WR | ATL

Commanders' Jahan Dotson: Not targeted in preseason debut

Dotson played in Saturday's 23-21 preseason loss to the Panthers but did not see a target.

Carson Wentz directed a pass toward Dotson deep down the right side of the field late in the first quarter. However, it wasn't counted as an official target because defensive holding was called on the play. Dotson has reportedly shown strong rapport with Wentz during training camp and drew a start in the Commanders' first preseason game, but he'll have to wait at least another week before showcasing his skills in game action.

  • Russell Gage WR | SF

Buccaneers' Russell Gage: Not playing Saturday

Gage (leg) isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Dolphins.

Fellow wide receivers Mike Evans (hamstring), Chris Godwin (knee) and Julio Jones also won't suit up in the Bucs' exhibition opener. With Tom Brady tending to a personal matter at the moment, Tampa Bay's offense won't trot out its primary skill-position talent until next Saturday at Tennessee, at the earliest.

  • Texans' Brandin Cooks: Not likely to play Saturday

Cooks isn't slated to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Saints, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.

Among the Texans' skill positions, only running back Rex Burkhead is expected to join Cooks in street clothes. With Cooks unavailable to the offense, Nico Collins, Chris Conley and Chris Moore, among others, are the next players up at wide receiver.
