Pacioretty will serve as a special assistant to the head coach at the University of Michigan, ending his playing career, the Wolverines announced Tuesday. Pacioretty reportedly had some interest from NHL teams but decided to call it a career instead. The 36-year-old winger will retire having played in 939 regular-season games in which he racked up 335 goals and 346 assists. A product of the University of Michigan, the Connecticut native will return to his alma mater to begin his coaching career.

Pacioretty scored a goal on three shots, added four hits and blocked two shots in Friday's 2-0 win over the Panthers in Game 6. Pacioretty is up to two goals and six points over six games in the second round. His tally Friday gave the Maple Leafs a little more breathing room late in the third period as they managed to rebound from three straight losses to force Game 7. Pacioretty is up to eight points, 13 shots on net, 59 hits and a plus-3 rating over 10 playoff appearances. He could be a candidate to see more minutes if Matthew Knies (undisclosed) is unable to suit up in Sunday's Game 7.

Pacioretty scored a power-play goal and added an even-strength assist Wednesday in the Maple Leafs' 4-3 win over the Panthers in Game 2 of their second-round series. The veteran winger got Toronto on the board late in the first period by tipping home a point shot from Morgan Rielly. Pacioretty has caught fire, reeling off three straight multi-point performances and collecting two goals and six points during that stretch, but not having a spot on the Leafs' top power-play unit will make it tougher for him to keep producing.

Pacioretty scored the game-winning goal Thursday in a 4-2 win over Ottawa in Game 6. He also put up an assist and a game-high seven hits. Pacioretty snuck into a quiet area in front of the net, and Maxi Domi found him. He beat Linus Ullmark glove side with a wrist shot from above the left face-off circle. Pacioretty is now the second-oldest Leafs player with a series-winning goal. He did it at 36 years, 162 days, and he is second only to Joe Nieuwendyk who did it in 2004 at 37 years, 223 days.

Pacioretty is slated to return to the lineup in Game 3 against Ottawa on Thursday, Joshua Kloke of The Athletic reports. Pacioretty will step into a third-line role, playing alongside Max Domi and Bobby McMann. Additionally, the 36-year-old Pacioretty will link up with the No. 2 power-play unit, giving him top-end fantasy value heading into Game 3. Prior to getting hurt, the winger was stuck in a 17-game goal drought during which he generated just three helpers to go with 32 shots and 47 hits.
