Gunnarsson (knee) announced Wednesday that he is retiring from professional hockey. Gunnarsson was limited to just 12 games this season due to a knee injury, which almost certainly factored into his decision to hang up his skates. Over the course of his 12-year career, the blueliner reached the 20-point mark just once back in 2010-11, when he was with Toronto. In all, the 2007 seventh-round pick logged 629 games for the Leafs and Blues, in which he registered 30 goals and 108 assists. Gunnarson added another seven points in 68 playoff appearances and lifted Lord Stanley's Cup back in 2019 with St. Louis.

Gunnarsson (right knee) will miss the rest of the 2020-21 season. Gunnarsson suffered a right knee during Monday's 3-0 loss to the Kings, and he was subsequently placed on injured reserve Tuesday before being ruled out for the season. The 34-year-old likely will land on long-term IR eventually, saving $1.75 million against the Blues' salary cap. Nevertheless, this is a major loss for the Blues, who are already struggling with injuries at forward and defense. Gunnarsson is a strong stay-at-home defenseman and veteran presence. He'll be an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Gunnarsson (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Tom Timmermann of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The Blues have yet to release an expected timetable for Gunnarsson's return, but he'll miss St. Louis' next four games at a minimum now that he's been placed on IR. The 34-year-old blueliner has tallied two helpers in 12 games this season.

Gunnarsson suffered a lower-body injury Monday against the Kings and could be out long-term. After the game, head coach Craig Berube said that Gunnarsson would be out "a while" which is obviously not a great sign. He was on the ice for just over nine minutes Monday before the injury. The 34-year-old will be evaluated Tuesday.

Gunnarsson posted an assist and two blocked shots in Friday's 4-1 win over the Coyotes. Gunnarsson collected his second assist in seven games this season with the secondary helper on Justin Faulk's third-period tally. The 34-year-old Gunnarsson has added nine blocked shots, five hits and a plus-1 rating. He hasn't reached double-digit points since 2014-15, so Gunnarsson isn't likely to be viable in fantasy.
