  Gauthier was demoted to the minors Monday. Gauthier's reassignment could be temporary as it leaves the Devils without a full complement of forwards ahead of Tuesday's matchup with the Panthers, though Mason Geertsen could be an option to move into a fourth-line role if needed. In eight games this year, the 26-year-old Gauthier remains pointless while logging four shots, 16 hits and three blocks while averaging 11:06 of ice time.

  Gauthier was waived by the Devils on Sunday, per CBS Sports. Gauthier spent most of last season with AHL Tucson, scoring seven points in 18 appearances. He was held scoreless in two games with the Coyotes. The 26-year-old will provide some veteran organizational depth with his 170 career NHL games played.

  Gauthier signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Devils on Friday, Mike Morreale of NHL.com reports. Gauthier was attending New Jersey's training camp on a professional tryout offer, and he evidently performed well enough to earn a two-way deal. Nonetheless, the 26-year-old forward, who went scoreless in two appearances with Arizona last season, will likely spend most of the 2021-22 campaign in the minors.

Gauthier has appeared in 133 NHL contests over the past three campaigns, picking up 10 goals and 16 helpers over that span, so he shouldn't have too much trouble landing a two-way deal with a new team this offseason.
