Carolina released Grimaldi on Sunday from his professional tryout agreement. Grimaldi generated 36 goals and 73 points in 72 games with AHL Chicago during the 2023-24 regular season. He may have to settle for a minor-league contract to play in North America this campaign.

Grimaldi signed a professional tryout agreement with Carolina, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports Tuesday. Grimaldi hasn't made an NHL appearance since the 2021-22 campaign when he logged seven games for the Predators. Still, the veteran winger impressed with AHL Chicago last year, tallying 36 goals and 37 assists in 72 outings with the Wolves. If he can show even glimpses of that scoring touch during camp, Grimaldi should have a decent shot at earning at least a two-way deal from Carolina.

Grimaldi was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Saturday. The 28-year-old played in a pair of games during this most recent call-up, going scoreless while skating less than 9:30 in each. With the Predators now off until at least Dec. 27 against Dallas, Grimaldi will head back to the Admirals.

Grimaldi was summoned from AHL Milwaukee on Thursday. Grimaldi has featured in five games with the Predators this season, going scoreless with six shots and four hits in 11:36 of average ice time. The 28-year-old isn't likely to make much of a fantasy impact as a result.

Grimaldi cleared waivers Friday, Adam Vingan of The Athletic reports. With no points in five games and often serving as a healthy scratch, Grimaldi easily passed through waivers and will head to AHL Milwaukee, where he recorded 11 points in 10 games back in 2018-19.
