DeSmith made 21 saves on 24 shots in a 4-2 loss to Florida on Saturday as part of the NHL Global Series in Finland. The fourth goal was an empty-netter. DeSmith doesn't get a lot of starts, but he shines when he's in the net. His 2.03 GAA and .922 save percentage are exactly the kind of stats that will help fantasy managers off the bench. Picking up a netminder like DeSmith, who can make successful spot starts, can be a successful strategy in several formats.

DeSmith will defend the visiting crease versus Florida in Finland on Saturday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports. DeSmith has been a terrific backup thus far for the Stars, as he is 2-1-0 with five goals allowed on 78 shots in three appearances. The 33-year-old netminder will face the Panthers, who toppled the Stars 6-4 on Friday.

DeSmith made 25 saves in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Bruins. The veteran netminder was beaten twice from in close after Dallas defenders coughed up the puck behind their own net, but DeSmith got plenty of offensive support to make up for it. He's no threat to Jake Oettinger in the No. 1 role, but DeSmith has been a strong backup to begin the season, going 2-1-0 with a 1.69 GAA and .936 save percentage in three starts.

DeSmtih will get the starting nod on the road against Boston on Thursday, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports. DeSmith will be making his third appearance of the season, having posted a 1-1-0 record, 1.53 GAA and .941 save percentage in his prior two outings. Looking ahead, Jake Oettinger figures to get the nod versus Chicago at home Saturday before the duo split the Global Series matchups with the Panthers on Nov. 1 and 2. For his part, DeSmith saw action in 29 games last year but may not see quite as many opportunities in 2024-25 due to Oettinger being a workhorse No. 1.

DeSmith turned aside 23 of 26 shots faced during Thursday's 3-2 road loss to the Capitals. DeSmith gets tagged with the Stars' first loss of the season. The 33-year-old will fall to 1-1-0 after logging a shutout in his first appearance and isn't likely to see a regular workload as long as Jake Oettinger -- who signed an eight-year, $66 million extension Thursday -- is healthy and productive.
