Head coach Craig Berube said Thursday that Knies (upper body) is still being evaluated but is "feeling okay," Dave McCarthy of NHL.com reports. Knies exited Wednesday's game against the Golden Knights due to an upper-body injury, and the severity of the issue isn't yet known. However, it's encouraging that the 22-year-old was feeling better a day after sustaining his injury, and he should be considered day-to-day for now. Whether he'll be available for Sunday's game against Utah remains to be seen.

Knies (upper body) won't return to Wednesday's game versus the Golden Knights. Knies was injured on a Zach Whitecloud hit in the second period. The 22-year-old Knies had two goals and three assists over his previous six games before being held scoreless prior to his exit Wednesday. An update on his status should be available prior to the Maple Leafs' next game Sunday versus Utah.

Knies scored a goal in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Edmonton. Evan Bouchard attempted a breakout pass from deep in his zone and fired a perfect gift to Knies in the slot, who wired the puck past a stunned Stuart Skinner. He has a point in each of his last two games, and five points (two goals, three assists) in his last six appearances. We'd like to see Knies shoot a bit more -- he has just six shots in his past six outings, and that will catch up to a guy, especially one with an abnormally-high 22.2 percent shooting rate.

Knies logged an assist and two shots on goal in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Capitals. Knies set up a William Nylander tally in the third period. Knies also had a goal overturned in the contest. The 22-year-old winger has four points over his last five contests and continues to see top-line usage and power-play time. He's up to seven goals, four assists, 35 shots on net, 43 hits and eight PIM over 18 games in what's shaping up to be a breakout campaign.

Knies had a goal and an assist in a 4-0 victory over Boston on Tuesday. Both came on the power play. Knies was parked in front of the net in the third, and he deflected a shot from William Nylander at the top of the crease. He has seven goals, two assists, 35 hits and 32 shots in 14 games this season. Those seven goals put him second on the team goal list behind William Nylander (10) -- yes, he's currently ahead of Auston Matthews. Knies has seized the opportunity to show off his north-south skills to gain the confidence of new coach Craig Berube, and his game has taken a big step forward.
