Boqvist notched an assist in Thursday's 5-0 win over the Red Wings. Boqvist will get the first crack at replacing Alexander Romanov (upper body) in the Islanders' lineup. The helper was Boqvist's first point in seven outings this season, and he's added two shots on net, two hits, five blocked shots and a plus-2 rating. Boqvist will likely be limited to third-pairing minutes, so he's not going to be a major factor on the scoresheet.

Boqvist was scratched in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Stars, but there may be room for him in the lineup if Alexander Romanov (upper body) misses time. Boqvist has been a seventh defenseman this season, but he has managed to get into six of the Islanders' first 20 games. He's yet to record a point while adding one shot on goal, four blocked shots and two PIM. The 25-year-old could be the next man up to cover any potential absence for Romanov, who was boarded hard by Mikko Rantanen late in Tuesday's contest. Boqvist still won't have much fantasy appeal, as he lacks a clear path to power-play time even when he plays.

Boqvist signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Islanders, the team announced Friday. Boqvist has bounced between four teams across his six-year NHL career, but he has earned himself an additional season with the Islanders. A midseason waiver claim from Florida, the 24-year-old posted two goals and six assists in 17 games after arriving on Long Island and was a fixture on the team's second power-play unit.

Boqvist notched two assists in Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Blue Jackets. Returning from an upper-body injury in time to face the team he spent the last three seasons with, Boqvist helped set up tallies by Pierre Engvall in the first period and Anders Lee in the second. Boqvist was pressed into service as a forward due to the absences of Mathew Barzal (knee) and Hudson Fasching (illness), but with the Islanders now completely healthy on the blue line, it's not clear if there will be room for Boqvist at his usual position. On the season, he's delivered four goals and 13 points in 31 appearances.

Boqvist (upper body) will be in the lineup against Columbus on Monday, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. After missing the last five games, Boqvist will return to action as a forward because Hudson Fasching (illness) is unavailable. Since being claimed off waivers from Florida on Jan. 31, the 24-year-old Boqvist has two goals, five points, 16 shots on net, five blocked shots and six hits in 12 appearances with the Islanders.
