Lundkvist (lower body) will be with the Stars for their three-game road trip and is considered day-to-day, Sam Nestler of DLLS Stars reports Friday. Lundkvist was back in the lineup against the Sharks on Wednesday after having spent two games in the press box as a healthy scratch, only to suffer a lower-body injury after logging just 6:38 of ice time. As such, even if the blueliner is given the all-clear ahead of Saturday's matchup with the Lightning, he could still be scratched in favor of Brendan Smith.

Lundkvist won't return to Wednesday's game versus the Sharks due to a lower-body injury. Lundkvist was injured in the second period, leaving the Stars to finish Wednesday's contest with five blueliners. The 24-year-old defenseman should be considered day-to-day for now. If he can't play Saturday versus the Lightning, Brendan Smith will likely rejoin the lineup. If the injury is significant, the Stars may call up a blueliner to replace Lundkvist.

Lundkvist notched an assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Blackhawks. Lundkvist got on the scoresheet for the first time this season just one game after his first healthy scratch. The 24-year-old has held a spot in the lineup over Brendan Smith for the most part. Lundkvist has contributed 12 shots on net, 11 hits, eight blocked shots, six PIM and a plus-2 rating through 11 appearances. He'll remain in a bottom-four role with minimal power-play time, so Lundkvist would have to up his production across the board to be an option for most fantasy managers despite his steady playing time.

Lundkvist has played in 10 of the Stars' first 11 games. Lundkvist was a healthy scratch for Saturday's second game in the NHL Global Series set against the Panthers, but that's the first time he's sat out this year. The 24-year-old is still looking for his first point while averaging 14:19 of ice time. He's added nine shots on net, nine hits, eight blocked shots, six PIM and a plus-1. It hasn't been unusual for Lundkvist to start the season in a large role under head coach Pete DeBoer -- he played in the Stars' first 21 games last year before sitting out 23 times over the last 61 contests, though seven of those absences were due to a concussion.

Lundkvist signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Stars on Monday. Lundkvist had two goals and 19 points in 59 regular-season games in 2023-24. His role with Dallas might be limited following the signings of defensemen Matt Dumba and Ilya Lyubushkin. As a result, it wouldn't be surprising if Lundkvist ends up serving primarily as Dallas' seventh blueliner, which was a common occurrence for him down the stretch and in the playoffs last season.
