Perunovich scored a goal and added two assists in AHL Tucson's 5-4 overtime win over Bakersfield on Friday. The goal was Perunovich's first of the season. Through 22 outings, he's racked up 15 points, 25 shots on net and a minus-5 rating. The defenseman is set for his first full AHL campaign after splitting time between the AHL and NHL in most of the last four years, as well as an injury-riddled 2022-23. His scoring potential is still obvious, but he has no clear path to the Mammoth's roster.

Perunovich was placed on waivers by the Mammoth on Thursday. Perunovich split time between the Blues and Islanders last year but joined the Mammoth on a one-year, two-way contract during the offseason. The 27-year-old was unable to land a spot on Utah's Opening Night roster, and he'll head to AHL Tucson if he clears waivers. However, he's made at least 35 regular-season appearances in the NHL in each of the last two campaigns, so he'll likely be a top candidate to be called up if the Mammoth need additional depth.

Perunovich inked a one-year, two-way contract with Utah on Tuesday, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports. Perunovich played in just 35 combined games for the Blues and Islanders last year in which he notched two goals and seven helpers. A change of scenery should do the Minnesota native some good, though he may have to spend some time in the minors this season, given the two-way nature of his new deal.

Perunovich was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Islanders on Monday and will become an unrestricted free agent, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. It looked like the Blues might have had something in Perunovich during his rookie season in 2023-24, when he posted 17 assists in 54 games. However, last year, he became a regular healthy scratch with the Blues, was traded to the Islanders and then ended the season as a regular healthy scratch in Long Island. Now, after being cut loose by New York, the 26-year-old will be looking for a new home in free agency to continue his career.

Perunovich played in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Capitals. Perunovich drew in for Alexander Romanov (illness) in the penultimate game of the season. The 26-year-old Perunovich had been scratched for the previous 23 contests. He's a pending restricted free agent heading into the summer, and it's unclear if the Islanders are interested in keeping him around. He's produced nine points, 18 shots on net, 33 blocked shots and a minus-2 rating over 33 appearances between the Islanders and the Blues, but Perunovich's skill set was a bit redundant on a team that also rostered Tony DeAngelo and Adam Boqvist in the second half of the campaign.
