Mammoth's Logan Cooley: Ready for regular season

Per Cole Bagley of KSL Sports, Cooley (undisclosed) will miss Saturday's preseason finale against San Jose, but he will be ready to play Opening Night in Colorado on Oct. 9, according to head coach Andre Tourigny on Friday.

That's great news for Cooley's fantasy managers, as the 21-year-old is one of the top young players in the NHL. He managed 25 goals and 65 points in 75 regular-season games in 2024-25, including 18 points in his last 16 contests.

  • David Kampf C | WAS

Maple Leafs' David Kampf: Placed on waivers Friday

The Maple Leafs placed Kampf on waivers Friday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

The Maple Leafs have been rumored to have had Kampf on the trade block since the beginning of free agency in order to free up salary cap space, so it's no surprise to find him on the waiver wire at this time. The 30-year-old had five goals and 13 points in 59 regular-season games in 2024-25. Should he pass through waivers, don't be surprised if he is sent to AHL Toronto.

  • Nils Aman C | VAN

Canucks' Nils Aman: Waived by Vancouver

Aman was placed on waivers by the Canucks on Friday.

Aman returned to full health ahead of training camp this year, but he was unable to land a spot on the Canucks' Opening Night roster, as he'll be assigned to AHL Abbotsford if he clears waivers. The 25-year-old made 19 regular-season appearances for Vancouver last year and recorded a goal, five assists and 22 hits while averaging 10:29 of ice time, so he'll be a candidate to be called up if the Canucks need additional depth.

  • Lars Eller C | OTT

Senators' Lars Eller: In regular jersey at practice

Eller (abdomen) partook in a regular jersey at practice Friday, according to TSN 1200 Ottawa.

Eller is closing in on returning to the Ottawa lineup, and that could occur as early as Saturday's preseason game in Montreal. The former Hab had 10 goals and 22 points in 80 regular-season appearances with Pittsburgh and Washington in 2024-25.

  • Bruins' Georgi Merkulov: On waivers Friday

Merkulov was put on the waiver wire Friday.

Merkulov signed a two-way contract in the offseason, so this move is no surprise. He played in six games with Boston during the 2024-25 regular-season and picked up one assist. He will play at AHL Providence to start the season if he passes through waivers.

  • Bruins' Patrick Brown: Placed on waivers

Brown was put on waivers by the Bruins on Friday.

Brown is on a two-way contract and if he passes through waivers, he will be sent to AHL Providence. The 33-year-old veteran managed to play 15 regular-season games with the Bruins in 2024-25, picking up one assist, 46 hits and 12 blocked shots.

  • Panthers' Anton Lundell: Doubtful Saturday

Lundell is day-to-day with an upper-body injury and will likely miss Saturday's preseason finale versus Tampa Bay, according to George Richards of Florida Hockey Now.

Lundell could take over as the Panthers' No. 1 center with Aleksander Barkov (knee) out for the season, though Sam Bennett is likely the favorite at this time. Lundell had a strong season as the Panthers' third-line center in 2024-25, scoring 17 times and adding 28 assists over 79 regular-season games. He was strong in the playoffs with six goals and 18 points in 23 games, including one goal and five assists in six games versus Edmonton in the Stanley Cup Finals.

  • Flames' Jonathan Huberdeau: Not playing Friday

Huberdeau (undisclosed) will miss Friday's preseason game against Winnipeg, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Huberdeau suffered the injury in the third period Wednesday versus Vancouver and did not return. Huberdeau's status for Wednesday's Opening Night game in Edmonton could be in doubt. The veteran winger had 28 goals and 62 points across 81 games in 2024-25, his best season with the Flames since his trade from Florida three years ago.

  • Flames' Martin Pospisil: Won't play Friday

Pospisil (undisclosed) has been ruled out for Friday's preseason finale against the Jets, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Pospisil sustained an undisclosed injury during Wednesday's preseason game against the Canucks and will be held out for the Flames' final matchup before the start of the regular season. It's not yet clear whether he'll be available for the team's Opening Night matchup against the Oilers on Oct. 8, but he's expected to occupy a bottom-six role during the regular season once he's healthy.

  • Logan Cooley C | UTA

Mammoth's Logan Cooley: Wearing regular jersey at practice

Cooley (undisclosed) is back at practice Friday and in a regular jersey, according to Brogan Houston of Deseret News Sports.

Cooley has been hampered by the undisclosed injury for almost two weeks. He could return to action in time for Saturday's preseason finale versus San Jose, but if not, he should be ready to go Oct. 9 on Opening Night in Colorado. The talented center had 25 goals and 40 assists across 75 appearances in his 2024-25 sophomore season, including nine points in his final five games.
