NHL Player News

  • Mammoth's Barrett Hayton: Feeling better

Hayton has recovered from his undisclosed injury, per Cole Bagley of KSL Sports on Wednesday.

Hayton was previously regarded as day-to-day. Assuming he stays healthy, Hayton is projected to open the campaign on the top six and first power-play unit. He had 20 goals and 46 points across 82 regular-season appearances with Utah in 2024-25.

  • Sharks' Cameron Lund: Sheds non-contact jersey

Lund (upper body) was in a regular jersey during Wednesday's practice session, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

Lund suffered an upper-body injury during a prospects game against the Ducks on Sept. 12, and he was in a non-contact sweater in recent practice sessions. However, his presence for Wednesday's practice suggests that he's progressing in his recovery and could be in the mix to return to game action soon. Whether he'll be available for Friday's preseason game against the Golden Knights remains to be seen.

  • Jake O'Brien C | SEA

    Kraken's Jake O'Brien: Working in non-contact jersey

O'Brien was on the ice in a non-contact sweater Wednesday, Brogan Houston of Deseret News Sports reports.

O'Brien was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft and is a long shot to secure a spot on the Opening Night roster. Given all the young talent on the Kraken roster, the team will likely take its time allowing O'Brien to get NHL-ready. Once given the all-clear, O'Brien will likely be headed back to OHL Brantford, where he racked up 98 points in 66 regular-season games last year.

  • Noel Acciari C | PIT

Penguins' Noel Acciari: Skating in non-contact jersey

Acciari (abdomen) took the ice Wednesday in a non-contact sweater, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.

Acciari is slowly working his way back from a core muscle injury that has, thus far, prevented him from featuring in a preseason game. While the veteran forward is expected to be healthy for Opening Night against the Rangers on Oct. 7, he may not actually crack the lineup if new head coach Dan Muse sticks to his guns in deploying a younger lineup this season.

  • Rangers' Justin Dowling: Not practicing Wednesday

Dowling will not take part in Wednesday's training camp session due to a lower-body injury, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reports.

Dowling played in 52 regular-season games for the Devils last year, and he garnered two goals, five helpers and 51 hits while averaging 10:13 of ice time. Even with his injury absence, the veteran center should be capable of making the Opening Night roster as a bottom-six player. While Dowling can add some physicality to the lineup, he doesn't offer enough in any one category to make him more than a low-end fantasy target.

  • Max Domi C | TOR

Maple Leafs' Max Domi: Returns to practice

Domi (lower body/personal) returned to practice Wednesday, David Alter of The Hockey News reports.

Domi sat out Tuesday's preseason game against the Senators while attending a family funeral, but he was back with the team a day later. He's dealt with a lower-body injury early in training camp, but he practiced for the first time in camp Sunday and appears to be trending in the right direction. It's not yet clear whether he'll be able to suit up in Thursday's exhibition matchup against Montreal.

  • Golden Knights' Pavel Dorofeyev: Sustains LBI in preseason play

Dorofeyev won't return to Tuesday's preseason game versus the Kings due to a lower-body injury, Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

Dorofeyev can be considered day-to-day for now. The 24-year-old winger could be brought back cautiously during the preseason, leaving his status for Thursday's game versus the Mammoth and Friday's contest versus the Sharks in question. When healthy, Dorofeyev is projected for a middle-six role in 2025-26.

  • Kraken's Chandler Stephenson: Departs Tuesday's game

Stephenson (undisclosed) will not return to Tuesday's preseason game versus the Flames, Alison Lukan of the Kraken Hockey Network reports.

Stephenson left the game late in the second period and was unable to return. The center likely would not have played Wednesday in Edmonton anyway, but his status beyond that has yet to be determined.

  • Colin White C | SJ

    Sharks' Colin White: Listed week-to-week

White (upper body) will be out for a couple of weeks, per Max Miller of NHL.com on Tuesday.

White notched 12 goals and 25 points in 48 regular-season games with AHL San Jose in 2024-25. Once healthy, he will probably return to the minors.

  • Brad Lambert C | WPG

Jets' Brad Lambert: In Tuesday's lineup

Lambert, who was evaluated for a concussion after Sunday's game versus the Wild, will suit up for Tuesday's exhibition contest against the Oilers.

Lambert's status following Sunday's matchup was up in the air since head coach Scott Arniel did not have an update on the forward's status after he was removed by the concussion spotter, but he seemingly passed all the necessary tests to draw back into the lineup Tuesday. The 2022 first-round pick will slot in on the third line with Colby Barlow and Parker Ford against Edmonton.
