NHL Player News

  • Sabres' Mattias Samuelsson: Unavailable Monday

Samuelsson (undisclosed) won't play against the Avalanche on Monday, Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News reports.

Samuelsson is undergoing tests to determine the severity of the injury. He has one assist, one shot on goal, five blocked shots and five hits across two appearances this season. With Samuelsson unavailable, Ryan Johnson will play against Colorado on Monday.

  • Bruins' Hampus Lindholm: Won't play Monday

Lindholm (lower body) will not be in the lineup against the Lightning on Monday but will travel with the team, Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald reports.

Lindholm's presence on the Bruins' three-game road trip doesn't guarantee he will be in the lineup, but it certainly indicates the blueliner is getting closer to returning. In his absence, Jordan Harris figures to link up with Andrew Peeke on the third pairing. Lindholm has struggled to stay healthy, featuring in just 17 regular-season games for Boston last year.

  • Hurricanes' Jaccob Slavin: Still being evaluated

According to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site, Slavin (lower body) didn't participate in Monday's practice, and it's unclear if he will travel the Hurricanes for the start of the team's six-game road trip.

Slavin is still undergoing evaluations after suffering an injury in Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over Philadelphia. He hasn't earned a point in two appearances this season while posting two shots on goal and three blocked shots. If Slavin is unavailable for Tuesday's matchup against San Jose, Mike Reilly will probably make his season debut.

  • Tyler Kleven D | OTT

    Senators' Tyler Kleven: Playing Monday

Kleven (undisclosed) will be in action versus the Predators on Monday, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.

Kleven will come off injured reserve to make his season debut on the third pairing with Jordan Spence. Last year, the 23-year-old Kleven logged 79 regular-season games for the Senators as a rookie, notching four goals, six assists, 105 hits and 97 blocked shots along the way. With his injury concerns seemingly behind him, Kleven should be a mainstay on the blue line the rest of the way.

  • Blue Jackets' Erik Gudbranson: Unavailable Monday

Gudbranson (upper body) won't play against New Jersey on Monday, according to Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site.

Gudbranson suffered the injury in Saturday's 7-4 win over Minnesota, and it's unclear how long he will be out of action. The 33-year-old Gudbranson didn't participate in Monday's morning skate, and he will be replaced in the lineup by Jake Christiansen.

  • Lane Hutson D | MON

Canadiens' Lane Hutson: Inks eight-year extension

Hutson signed an eight-year, $70.8 million contract extension with Montreal on Monday.

During his rookie year, Hutson accounted for six goals and 66 points in 82 regular-season games last campaign en route to winning the Calder Trophy. He has one assist, four shots on goal, three blocked shots and three hits through three outings this season. The 21-year-old defender has one more year remaining on his entry-level contract, but his new deal extends through the 2033-34 campaign with an $8.85 million cap hit.

  • Haydn Fleury D | WPG

Jets' Haydn Fleury: Won't play Monday

Fleury (kneecap) will not be in the lineup against the Islanders on Monday.

Fleury averaged 15:40 of ice time through the first two games of the season but will now have to watch from the sidelines due to his kneecap injury. With Fleury on the shelf, veteran Colin Miller is expected to make his 2025-26 season debut on the third pairing with Luke Schenn. Even once cleared to play, Fleury is unlikely to offer enough offensive upside to be more than a mid-range fantasy target in deeper formats.

  • Panthers' Tobias Bjornfot: Called up from minors

Bjornfot was recalled from AHL Charlotte on Monday.

Bjornfot's promotion to the NHL roster comes after Dmitry Kulikov (upper body) was designated for injured reserve Friday. Even though the 24-year-old Bjornfot has been added to the 23-man roster, he's far from guaranteed to feature in the lineup against the Flyers on Monday, and he would need to edge out Uvis Balinskis for a spot on the blue line.

  • Kings' Joe Hicketts: One of each Sunday

Hicketts scored a goal on two shots and added an assist in AHL Ontario's 4-2 win over Tucson on Sunday.

Hicketts is the Reign's captain this year, and he's on a two-way deal with the Kings for this season and 2026-27. The 29-year-old defenseman is among the more experienced blueliners available for a call-up, but the Kings are carrying seven defensemen currently and will likely have eight once Kyle Burroughs (upper body) is healthy. Hicketts had 27 points in 62 regular-season outings in 2024-25 with Ontario and offers minimal upside should he be summoned by the big club.

  • Lightning's Declan Carlile: Secure two points

Carlile scored a goal on six shots and added an assist in AHL Syracuse's 3-2 overtime win over Hershey on Sunday.

Carlile just missed out on the Lightning's Opening Night roster as one of the last camp cuts. The 25-year-old blueliner has four NHL appearances to his name and would be a leading option for a call-up if the Bolts are short on defensemen at any point. He hasn't been a big scorer in the AHL historically, earning just 70 points over 195 career appearances across four seasons prior to 2025-26.
