  • Avalanche's Jacob MacDonald: Undergoes hip surgery

MacDonald underwent successful hip surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss 5-6 months.

MacDonald didn't appear in the NHL last year but had a stellar season with AHL Colorado, racking up 31 goals, 24 assists, 46 PIM and a plus-24 rating over 63 appearances with the Eagles. However, the 32-year-old is expected to miss most of the 2025-26 campaign following his procedure.

  • Zayne Parekh D | CGY

Flames' Zayne Parekh: Back on ice

Parekh (lower body) took to the ice Wednesday, per Adam Kimelman of NHL.com.

Parekh appears to be back up to speed after he missed part of the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase for precautionary reasons due to his injury. Even when the announcement about him missing the remainder of the showcase was made back in July, he was still expected to be a full participant at training camp, so everything seems to be on track. Parekh will be in the mix for a spot on Calgary's Opening Night roster after scoring a goal in his NHL debut April 17. He also had 33 goals, 107 points and 96 PIM across 61 regular-season appearances with OHL Saginaw in 2024-25.

  • Capitals' Martin Fehervary: Participating in informal workouts

Fehervary (knee) was on the ice for Tuesday's informal skate and is expected to be ready for camp, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

Fehervary was previously described as being "into just normal training phase" by General Manager Chris Patrick, so his presence at offseason workouts certainly seems to clear the way for him to be ready to go this year. In 81 regular-season games last year, the 25-year-old blueliner set new personal bests in goals (five) and assists (20), reaching the 20-point threshold for the first time in his five-year NHL career.

  • Daniel Walcott: Ending playing career

Walcott announced his retirement from professional hockey Friday.

Walcott spent the bulk of his time with AHL Syracuse and ends his career as the Crunch's all-time leader in games played with 494. He made one NHL appearance with the Lightning back in 2020-21 as well.

  • Jets' Josh Morrissey: Healthy ahead of training camp

Morrissey (knee) is at full health ahead of training camp, Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press reports Wednesday.

Morrissey is on Team Canada's list for its Olympic orientation camp, and he is participating on the ice. Morrissey suffered a similar injury to his opposite knee a couple of years ago, and he was able to get back to on-ice activities earlier in the summer, so he has had a fairly normal offseason routine. In addition to his Olympic hopes, the 30-year-old is poised to play a massive role on the Jets' top pairing and first power-play unit in the 2025-26 NHL campaign. He exceeded the 60-point mark for the third year in a row during the 2024-25 regular season.

  • Hurricanes' Oliver Kylington: Signs with Carolina

Kylington signed a professional tryout agreement with the Hurricanes on Wednesday, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports.

Kylington has spent seven seasons in the NHL, playing 220 games between the Flames and Ducks. He's totaled 18 goals, 42 assists, 225 blocked shots and 117 hits. However, he had a much more limited impact during the 2024-25 campaign, logging just one goal, four assists and 18 blocked shots while averaging 12:18 of ice time over 19 appearances. He'll have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot with the Hurricanes this fall.

  • Simon Despres: Joining semi-pro team in Quebec

Despres signed a one-year contract with Saint-Hyacinthe of the North American Hockey League on Tuesday.

Despres last appeared in the NHL with Anaheim in 2016-17. The left-shot blueliner was a first-round selection (No. 30 overall) by the Penguins in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

  • Cam Crotty D | OTT

Senators' Cameron Crotty: Secures two-way deal

Crotty inked a two-year, two-way contract with Ottawa on Monday.

Crotty saw action in just one NHL game last year for the Wild, posting a minus-1 rating in 5:08 of ice time. The 26-year-old blueliner wasn't significantly more productive in the minors, recording 10 assists but zero goals in 64 games with AHL Iowa. He figures to play the bulk of his upcoming minutes in the minors and is unlikely to offer much in the way of fantasy value moving forward.

  • Jan Rutta D | SJ

Jan Rutta: Signs with Swiss team

Rutta signed a two-year contract with Geneve-Servette HC of Switzerland's National League on Monday.

Rutta collected three goals, nine points, 55 shots on net, 81 blocked shots and 40 hits across 54 regular-season games with San Jose in 2024-25. The 35-year-old defenseman won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Lightning in 2020 and 2021. His career will continue overseas for the time being, but his days of playing in the NHL could be over.

  • Tyson Barrie D | CGY

    Tyson Barrie: Announces retirement

Barrie announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday.

Barrie played 14 seasons in the NHL between Colorado, Toronto, Edmonton, Nashville and New Jersey, but he saw limited playing time with the Flames during the 2024-25 campaign before being waived, and he'll ultimately elect to call it a career. He played 822 games during his career, amassing 110 goals, 398 assists, 869 blocked shots, 506 hits and 263 PIM.
