Philippe Myers D | TOR
Maple Leafs' Philippe Myers: Grabs helper in win
Myers posted an assist and four hits in Friday's 5-2 win over the Red Wings.
Myers has played in eight of 13 games in December, and he's often been in a top-four role on paper when he suits up. The 27-year-old has two helpers this month, accounting for all of his offense through nine appearances this season. He's added 11 shots on net, 26 hits, eight blocked shots and a plus-1 rating. Myers will need to show more offense over a longer stretch of time before he can be considered in most fantasy formats.

Seth Jones D | FLA
Blackhawks' Seth Jones: Pots goal Friday
Jones scored a goal on two shots in Friday's 6-2 loss to the Sabres.
Jones tallied in the third period to cut the deficit to two goals, but the Blackhawks got no closer. This was his third game back from a broken foot, and he's added three shots on net, four blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in that span. Jones has the potential to put up plenty of points, shots and blocks, but he doesn't add as many hits or PIM and will likely carry a terrible plus-minus rating. His fantasy utility will depend on which categories you're considering.

Bowen Byram D | BUF
Sabres' Bowen Byram: Picks up helper Friday
Byram logged an assist, four hits and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 6-2 win over the Blackhawks.
Byram snapped a four-game drought with the helper on a Zach Benson tally in the first period. The 23-year-old Byram has seen a decrease in ice time since Rasmus Dahlin returned from a back injury, but the former is still firmly in the top four. Byram has contributed 19 points, 43 shots on net, 50 blocked shots, 35 hits and a plus-6 rating over 36 appearances. He's on his way toward a career year, sitting 10 points back of his previous high from 2023-24, a season he split between the Avalanche and the Sabres.

Rasmus Dahlin D | BUF
Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Two more assists Friday
Dahlin logged two assists, three shots on goal, two hits and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 6-2 win over the Blackhawks.
With six helpers, a plus-7 rating and three blocked shots over his last two games, it looks like Dahlin is back in form after a bout of back spasms cost him eight of nine contests from Dec. 5-21. The 24-year-old defenseman is up to 25 points, 83 shots on net, 39 blocked shots, 29 hits, 18 PIM and a plus-10 rating over 28 appearances. Dahlin should benefit from not having any back-to-backs over the next five games, which should help prevent any lingering issues from cropping up.

Jack Johnson D | CLB
Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Notches assist in win
Johnson logged an assist in Friday's 6-2 win over the Bruins.
Johnson has played in seven of the last eight games. The 37-year-old's helper was his first point since Oct. 26 versus the Predators. He has an easier path to staying in the lineup as long as the Blue Jackets keep rolling with seven defensemen, which has worked well for them in recent contests. Overall, Johnson has two helpers, 13 shots on net, 11 hits, 16 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating through 22 outings, so he's not a particularly strong option for fantasy managers.

Dante Fabbro D | CLB
Blue Jackets' Dante Fabbro: Nabs helper in win
Fabbro produced an assist and blocked two shots in Friday's 6-2 win over the Bruins.
Fabbro picked up his first point since Dec. 10, a span of five games off the scoresheet. He also missed two contests due to a lower-body injury in that span. The 26-year-old's absence didn't cost him a spot on the top pairing, as he continues to line up alongside Zach Werenski, giving Fabbro a chance to pick up some offense in a large role. Fabbro has eight points, 34 shots on net, 23 hits, 48 blocked shots, 16 PIM and a plus-9 rating over 26 outings between Columbus and Nashville this year.

Moritz Seider D | DET
Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Dishes apple Friday
Seider produced a power-play assist in a team-high 22:20 of ice time Friday in a 5-2 loss to Toronto.
Seider recorded the primary helper on Lucas Raymond's second power-play goal of the season Friday. Seider has registered at least one point in five of his past eight outings after being held off the scoresheet in the first four games of December. The right-shot blueliner is leading Detroit on the back end in scoring, and he's fourth overall on the club in points. Through 35 appearances in 2024-25, Seider has accounted for four goals, 15 helpers, 20 PIM, 68 shots on goal, 81 blocked shots, 88 hits, 14 takeaways and a minus-1 rating.

Simon Edvinsson D | DET
Red Wings' Simon Edvinsson: Scores in return from injury
Edvinsson deposited an even-strength goal on his only shot in Friday's 5-2 loss to Toronto.
Edvinsson closed out the scoring with his fourth goal of the campaign in the final stanza of the defeat. The 6-foot-6 blueliner was activated off injured reserve ahead of Friday's contest after missing three games due to an upper-body injury. Edvinsson is a player worth monitoring going forward -- he's second among defensemen in scoring on Detroit behind only Moritz Seider. On the season, the 21-year-old Edvinsson has contributed four goals and 14 points through 31 appearances.

Marcus Pettersson D | VAN
Penguins' Marcus Pettersson: Ruled out Saturday
Pettersson (lower body) will not play versus the Islanders on Saturday, according to Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff.
The good news is that Pettersson was allowed contact at practice for the first time since he was injured in Ottawa on Dec. 14. Pettersson has two goals, 11 assists, 36 hits and 56 blocked shots across 32 games this season. He could be back as early as Sunday in a return match with the Islanders.

Ty Smith D | CAR
Hurricanes' Ty Smith: Back in NHL
Smith was called up from AHL Chicago on Saturday, per Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site.
The Hurricanes had only six defensemen on their roster before Smith was recalled. Smith last played in the NHL during the 2022-23 campaign with Pittsburgh, scoring once and adding three helpers in nine regular-season games. Smith had three goals and 10 points in 13 AHL appearances before his recall. He will likely be the seventh defenseman against the Devils on Saturday.
