  • Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev: Tagged with another loss Saturday

Georgiev surrendered four goals on 31 shots in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Islanders.

This game appeared to be trending toward a low-scoring affair after the opening stanza, but the Islanders blitzed Georgiev for three goals in the middle frame. He conceded all four tallies at even strength. The 28-year-old has allowed 15 goals on 159 shots (.906 save percentage) through five appearances in January, going 1-4-0 in that span. Georgiev's won just two of 10 starts with San Jose since being acquired in a trade from Colorado on Dec. 9. Overall, he has a 10-15-0 record, .880 save percentage and 3.45 GAA split between both clubs in 2024-25.

  • Senators' Leevi Merilainen: Steals shootout win

Merilainen turned aside 23 shots in regulation and overtime and all three shootout attempts he faced in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Bruins.

The Senators out-shot the visitors 44-28, but Merilainen allowed a career-high five goals and needed some late heroics from Josh Norris at the end of the third period just to force OT. The 22-year-old netminder redeemed himself in the shootout, denying Charlie Coyle, David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha to secure the victory. Merilainen's time in the NHL could be coming to an end for now with Linus Ullmark (back) close to coming off IR, but the Finn's firmly established as Ottawa's goalie of the future after his recent performances. Through nine NHL appearances this season, Merilainen has gone 6-2-1 with a 2.20 GAA and .917 save percentage. Anton Forsberg is a free agent next offseason, so it's possible the team will ship the veteran out and keep Merilainen around instead.

  • Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Playing at high level in January

Hogberg made 18 saves on 19 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over San Jose.

Hogberg conceded a weak goal to Barclay Goodrow midway through the second period, but that was all that got past the Swede on Saturday. Hogberg has allowed exactly one marker in three consecutive games, posting a 2-1-0 record, .955 save percentage and 1.01 GAA in that span. He has earned a larger share of the crease lately due to Semyon Varlamov (lower body) remaining without a timetable to return. The 30-year-old Hogberg owns a 2-2-0 record, .952 save percentage and 1.32 GAA through six appearances in 2024-25.

  • Ilya Sorokin G | NYI

    Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Starting Monday

Sorokin will start at home Monday against the Blue Jackets, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.

Sorokin will look to bounce back after allowing four goals on 23 shots in a loss to the Flyers in his last outing. Overall, the 29-year-old netminder is 13-14-4 with a .900 save percentage and 2.87 GAA this season. Sorokin will face a Columbus team that's averaging 3.30 goals per game, the seventh-best mark in the league.

  • Bruins' Jeremy Swayman: Stumbles in shootout against Sens

Swayman stopped 39 of 44 shots through overtime and two of three shootout attempts in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Senators.

He was by far the busier goalie during the first 65 minutes, as the Bruins got out-shot 44-28, but the visitors still grabbed a 5-3 lead midway through the third period before Swayman allowed goals to Nick Jensen and Josh Norris in the final four minutes to force OT. Swayman then got out-waited by Tim Stutzle for the only successful shootout attempt. The five goals against were the most Swayman has given up since Dec. 10, but he's bean getting little help from his defense of late, facing more than 40 shots in three straight starts. Swayman has been beaten at least three times in five of his last six outings, going 2-3-1 with a 3.28 GAA and .912 save percentage over that stretch.

  • Petr Mrazek G | ANA

Blackhawks' Petr Mrazek: Makes 32 saves Saturday

Mrazek stopped 32 of 35 shots in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Golden Knights.

Mrazek was coming off back-to-back losses, against Detroit and Calgary, in his previous two outings but bounced back here. The win was the only positive aspect of this performance, though, as the underlying numbers haven't been very good. Mrazek has allowed three or more goals in six of his last seven appearances, a span in which he's gone 2-5-0 with a 4.47 GAA and an .861 save percentage.

  • Golden Knights' Ilya Samsonov: Gives up five goals Saturday

Samsonov stopped 18 of 23 shots in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Blackhawks.

Samsonov and Adin Hill have been alternating between the pipes for the Golden Knights in recent games, but the former hasn't had good results of late. Samsonov has dropped each of his last three outings while recording a sub-.820 save percentage in his last two. He's gone 2-3-0 with a 3.04 GAA and an .872 save percentage across five outings in January.

  • Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Gives up three goals in loss

Skinner stopped 24 of 27 shots in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Canucks.

Skinner took his second loss over six outings in January. He's allowed at least three goals in three games during that span. The 26-year-old gave up all three goals in the first period in Saturday's defeat, and the Oilers' offense struggled to do much outside of a pair of Leon Draisaitl tallies in the middle frame. Skinner is down to 18-10-3 with a 2.70 GAA and a .901 save percentage over 31 appearances. The Oilers return home to face the Capitals on Tuesday.

  • Cam Talbot G | DET

Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Pulled in loss to Tampa Bay

Talbot allowed five goals on 16 shots before being replaced by Alex Lyon for the start of the third period in Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Lightning.

Talbot surrendered three goals at even strength and two power-play tallies through 40 minutes of game action before ceding the net to Alex Lyon. Talbot was blitzed for three markers in the opening four minutes of the second period, effectively putting the contest out of reach on a night when Andrei Vasilevskiy turned aside 39 shots at the other end of the ice. The 37-year-old Talbot earned his first loss through six outings in January. Overall, the Ontario native has an 11-10-2 record, a .901 save percentage and a 3.07 GAA through 25 appearances in 2024-25.

  • Canucks' Thatcher Demko: Lightly tested in win

Demko stopped 13 of 15 shots in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Oilers.

Demko earned his first win since Dec. 23 versus the Sharks in Saturday's contest. A pair of Leon Draisaitl tallies in the second period made things interesting, but the Oilers had only three shots in the third while chasing the game. Demko certainly didn't look sharp, but he did enough to improve to 3-3-3 with a 3.24 GAA and an .871 save percentage over 10 appearances. The Canucks' next game is Tuesday at home versus the Sabres.
