  • Devils' Jacob Markstrom: In net Thursday

Markstrom will patrol the home crease versus Carolina on Thursday.

Markstrom will play in his 500th NHL game, becoming the 81st goaltender in NHL history to reach the milestone. The 34-year-old is off to a good start with the Devils, as he is 8-5-1 with a 2.58 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Markstrom had his three-game winning streak snapped Saturday in a loss to the Lightning. The Hurricanes are a high-scoring team, averaging 4.00 goals per game.

  • Wild's Marc-Andre Fleury: Gets rare start

Fleury will patrol the visiting crease in Edmonton on Thursday, Sarah McLellan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Fleury will make his second start in the Wild's last nine games as Filip Gustavsson has run with the top job. Fleury is 3-0-1 with a 2.70 GAA and a .904 save percentage in what is his last season in the NHL. He will not have an easy time of things Thursday as he takes on Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers.

  • Rangers' Igor Shesterkin: First goalie off Thursday

Shesterkin was the first goalie to exit the ice Thursday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports, indicating he'll tend the twine on the road versus Calgary.

Shesterkin hasn't exactly been in stellar form of late, going 2-2-0 in his last four outings, including a pair of contests in which he gave up five goals apiece. Still, the 28-year-old backstop is the unquestioned No. 1 option in the Big Apple. Having said that, the fact that veteran Jonathan Quick is riding back-to-back shutouts could see him steal a few starts away from Shesterkin.

  • Avalanche's Alexandar Georgiev: Starting Thursday

Georgiev (upper body) will be in the blue paint in Washington on Thursday, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.

Georgiev has won his last three starts, but he's been on the sidelines for the last two contests while recovering from his injury. He is 4-5-0 with a 3.56 GAA and an .863 save percentage as he is attempting to come back from a very rocky start in which he was 1-5-0 with a 4.05 GAA and an .847 save percentage. He will face the Capitals, who are first in NHL scoring, averaging 4.33 goals per game, but will be without the services of Alex Ovechkin, who is out with a lower leg injury.

  • Avalanche's Alexandar Georgiev: Activated from injured reserve

Georgiev (upper body) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.

Georgiev was unavailable for just under a week due to his upper-body injury, and he'll officially be activated from injured reserve after participating in Wednesday's team skate. The Avalanche haven't yet announced a starting goaltender for Thursday's road game against Washington, so it's unclear whether Georgiev will be between the pipes.

  • Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Between the pipes Thursday

Askarov will defend the road crease in St. Louis on Thursday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.

Askarov is considered the Sharks' goaltender of the future, and he will make his San Jose debut Thursday after spending the first six weeks of the season in the AHL. Askarov was 6-3-0 with a 1.92 GAA and a .939 save percentage over nine appearances in the AHL before being recalled. He will face the Blues, who are 29th in NHL scoring, averaging 2.45 goals per game.

  • Golden Knights' Ilya Samsonov: Between pipes Thursday

Samsonov will tend the twine for Thursday's road clash with the Senators, Jesse Granger of The Athletic reports.

Samsonov has played in just one of the Knights' last eight contests while dealing with an undisclosed injury. In his lone appearance, the Russian backstop gave up four goals on 24 shots (.833 save percentage) in a losing effort to the Capitals on Sunday. Unless he can pick up his performance level, Samsonov could find himself firmly cemented in the No. 2 role behind Adin Hill.

  • Oilers' Stuart Skinner: Gets starting nod versus Wild

Skinner will be between the home pipes against Minnesota on Thursday, Tony Brar of Oilers TV reports.

Skinner is undefeated in regulation over his last four outings, posting a 3-0-1 record to go with a 2.98 GAA and .871 save percentage. While the Oilers would undoubtedly prefer the netminder's save percentage was over .900, as long as he keeps earning standings points, he should maintain his spot as the No. 1 option ahead of Calvin Pickard.

  • Hurricanes' Frederik Andersen: Undergoing knee surgery Friday

Andersen will undergo knee surgery Friday and is expected to miss 8-12 weeks.

Andersen has been out of action since Oct. 26, when he was injured in Seattle. His return timetable should get him back in action, barring any setbacks, at some point between late January and late February. The good news is that the NHL will take a two-week break in early February, so the Hurricanes will not have to rush Andersen back. The 35-year-old was 3-1-0 with a 1.49 GAA and a .941 save percentage over four appearances prior to the injury. Look for Pyotr Kochetkov to be the No. 1 goaltender in Carolina, with Spencer Martin as his backup, until Andersen returns.

  • Blues' Jordan Binnington: Starting against San Jose

Binnington will defend the home crease versus San Jose on Thursday, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.

Binnington is off to a rocky start, as he is 5-8-1 with a 3.19 GAA and an .887 save percentage over 15 appearances this season. He could have a favorable matchup against the Sharks, who are averaging only 2.48 goals per game.
