John Gibson G | DET
Red Wings' John Gibson: Bounces back with strong outing
Gibson turned aside 23 of 24 shots on net in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Jets.
Gibson turned in a fantastic performance in Wednesday's contest, as he didn't allow a goal until the 47-minute mark while Detroit's offense had already scored two goals. With the win, he is up to a 13-8-1 record with a 2.97 GAA and an .893 save percentage through 23 outings this season. After losing his first game in nine tries in his last appearance, the win brings him up to a 9-1-0 record with a 2.21 GAA and a .925 save percentage over his last 10 starts. During that stretch, he allowed two goals or less exactly half of those starts, which includes two shutouts. The Red Wings currently hold a two-point lead over the rest of the Atlantic Division and have shown no signs of slowing down. With Gibson commanding the bulk of the team's starts, he could be in for one of the best seasons of his career, making him a top waiver-wire add in a solid chunk of fantasy formats.

Akira Schmid G | LV
Golden Knights' Akira Schmid: Early lead slips away on NYE
Schmid made 15 saves in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Predators.
The Golden Knights grabbed a 2-0 lead before the midway point in the first period, but their offense went cold the rest of the way and Schmid couldn't make the early advantage hold up. The 25-year-old netminder has given up nine goals on just 44 shots over his last two starts, and on the season he's posted an 11-4-4 record with a 2.50 GAA and .895 save percentage. Adin Hill (lower body) still lacks a clear target date for his return, so Schmid will continue battling Carter Hart for playing time into 2026.

Justus Annunen G | NSH
Predators' Justus Annunen: Nabs second straight win
Annunen turned aside 29 shots in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Golden Knights.
Vegas struck twice before the midway point in the first period to put the Predators on the ropes early, but Annunen kept his focus and slammed the door shut the rest of the way. The 25-year-old netminder has won back-to-back starts for the first time all season, giving Nashville's backup a bit of momentum heading into 2026, but through 12 outings he sports a 3-5-1 record with a 3.29 GAA and .875 save percentage.

Connor Hellebuyck G | WPG
Jets' Connor Hellebuyck: Struggles continue Wednesday
Hellebuyck stopped 17 of 19 shots on goal in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Red Wings.
Despite tending a clean final 45 minutes in Wednesday's contest, Hellebuyck would pick up the loss after he allowed two goals across a six-minute span in the first. With the loss, he now has a 9-10-3 overall record with a 2.51 GAA and a .907 save percentage through 22 appearances this season. The losses have begun to snowball for the 32-year-old netminder, who is presently on a seven-game losing skid. The Jets' struggles shouldn't solely be attributed to Hellebuyck, as he has lost two one-score games where the team's offense has put together one goal or less. The reigning Hart Trophy and Vezina Trophy winner will likely need to turn in an MVP-level performance to help the Jets get back on the right track. He remains a must-roster player in all fantasy formats due to his high ceiling, but he and the Jets need to start turning in wins if he'll amount to the high pick that was likely used to select him in most leagues.

Charlie Lindgren G | WAS
Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Nabs win on New Year's Eve
Lindgren made 22 saves in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.
The veteran netminder never relinquished the lead after Tom Wilson put the Caps ahead 2-1 midway through the second period. Lindgren had just one regulation loss in his final eight outings of 2025, going 5-1-1 with a 2.72 GAA and .894 save percentage since Nov. 17.

Jonathan Quick G | NYR
Rangers' Jonathan Quick: Crumbles against Caps
Quick stopped 21 of 26 shots in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to Washington, with the Capitals' final goal getting scored into an empty net.
The Rangers never held a lead in the contest, as Quick allowed one goal in the first period and two in each of the second and third frames. The veteran netminder hasn't won a game since Nov. 7, going 0-5-1 over his final six starts in 2025 despite a respectable 2.67 GAA and .910 save percentage.

Yaroslav Askarov G | SJ
Sharks' Yaroslav Askarov: Hangs on in shootout win
Askarov turned aside 20 of 23 shots on net in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Wild.
Askarov was able to help the Sharks outlast the Wild even after he surrendered two goals in the third period. He was only needed for two attempts in the shootout, as he saved both attempts he saw from Mats Zuccarello and Matt Boldy. With the shootout win, Askarov is up to a 15-10-1 record with a 3.36 GAA and a .897 save percentage across 26 appearances this season. The 23-year-old netminder has won each of his last three outings and five of his last seven appearances despite allowing three goals or more in each game. While the run-and-gun style of the Sharks affects Askarov's GAA in the long term, the team is on pace to win enough games to keep its primary netminder in the top 10 in wins this season. Askarov offers sustainable value in fantasy with an even higher ceiling if he can clean up his high GAA.

Jesper Wallstedt G | MIN
Wild's Jesper Wallstedt: Falls in shootout Wednesday
Wallstedt stopped 25 of 28 shots on goal in Wednesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Sharks.
Wallstedt tended a clean first period before allowing three consecutive goals and eventually giving up two tallies in the shootout. With the OT loss, he now has an 11-2-3 record with a .928 save percentage and a 2.21 GAA through 16 appearances this season. After his hot start to the season, the 23-year-old goaltender has alternated wins and losses over his last four outings. While he remains a strong 1B option for the Wild in tandem with Filip Gustavsson, the latter has won six of his last seven outings, giving him an edge over Wallstedt in the interim. Regardless, the rookie netminder is a viable option in all fantasy formats and should continue to see a decent number of starts moving forward.

Connor Ingram G | EDM
Oilers' Connor Ingram: First ugly outing of campaign
Ingram allowed six goals on 29 shots in Wednesday's 6-2 loss to the Bruins.
Ingram gave up a pair of goals in each period after having given up just seven goals over his first three starts combined. The 28-year-old was pushing Calvin Pickard for the starting job in the absence of Tristan Jarry (lower body), but the short-term outlook of the Oilers' crease could be a timeshare. Ingram is 2-2-0 with an .883 save percentage over four outings. The Oilers' next game is at home versus the Flyers on Saturday, and they have no back-to-back sets over the next week.

Jeremy Swayman G | BOS
Bruins' Jeremy Swayman: Takes down Oilers
Swayman stopped 34 of 36 shots in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Oilers.
Swayman was winless over his last five outings before avenging the loss that started that skid, a 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Oilers on Dec. 18. The 27-year-old netminder had a poor December, allowing four or more goals in four of 11 appearances. He's now at a 15-10-2 record with a 2.84 GAA and a .903 save percentage over 28 games this season. Swayman will likely get the nod again Saturday in Vancouver with a chance to get even with another team that defeated him during his December slump -- he allowed four goals on 23 shots in a shootout loss to the Canucks on Dec. 20.
