  • Reid Schaefer LW | NSH

Predators' Reid Schaefer: Occupying part-time role

Schaefer was scratched for the fourth consecutive game when he sat out Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Capitals.

Schaefer has played in six of 13 games for Nashville this season, but he has yet to record a point. The 23-year-old winger has collected five shots on net, nine hits, four PIM, four blocked shots and a minus-1 rating while filling a fourth-line role when he plays. The Predators have often dressed seven defensemen instead of a 12th forward, which makes it tough to predict how much playing time Schaefer will see. He's also competing with Vitali Pinchuk for opportunities to make the lineup.

  • Roman Josi D | NSH

Predators' Roman Josi: Helps out on all three goals in loss

Josi notched three assists, including one on the power play, and fired six shots on net in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Capitals.

This was Josi's second three-helper performance in the last three games. The defenseman is piling up apples early in the season with 14 assists and a goal across 13 contests. He's added 35 shots on net, 20 blocked shots, 12 PIM, six hits and a plus-4 rating. The 36-year-old looks to be in vintage form as the Predators continues to thrive on the power play -- they're converting at a 31.8 percent clip, good for third in the league through Thursday's action.

  • Ross Colton C | NSH

Predators' Ross Colton: Scores in loss

Colton scored a goal on three shots and added three hits in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Capitals.

Colton snapped a seven-game goal drought with the tally. He had one assist in that span. While there's a few extra minutes for forwards up for grabs when the Predators dress seven blueliners, Colton remains functionally in a fourth-line spot. He has four points, 18 shots, 36 hits, 10 blocked shots, four PIM and a minus-3 rating across 13 outings this season.

  • Lightning's John Carlson: Nets fourth goal of season

Carlson scored a goal Thursday in a 6-4 win against the Jets.

It was Carlson's fourth goal of the season, but just his sixth point. He has one power-play goal this season. Carlson was brought in to run the Bolts power play, but the unit is struggling at 26th in the NHL in terms of efficiency. And Carlson is on his slowest point pace since 2013-14. Yikes. He'll pick things up when the team picks things up, but the Bolts need something to inject some life into that man advantage, and fast.

  • Filip Forsberg LW | NSH

Predators' Filip Forsberg: Scores twice in loss

Forsberg scored two goals, including one on the power play, and fired three shots on net in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Capitals.

Forsberg continues to be a menace against the team that drafted him. In his career, he has 11 goals and 10 assists over 22 appearances against the Capitals. The winger is rolling late in October after his third straight multi-point effort, earning four goals and three assists in that span. For the season, the veteran winger is up to five tallies, 10 helpers, six power-play points, 35 shots on net, 17 hits and a plus-3 rating over 13 appearances.

  • Juuse Saros G | NSH

Predators' Juuse Saros: Takes loss against Capitals

Saros surrendered four goals on 29 shots in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Capitals.

Saros had gone four games without losing in regulation (1-0-3), but that stretch ended Thursday. He's made 10 appearances this season, and he's now allowed three or more goals in six of them. Saros is at a 3-3-4 record with a 2.94 GAA and a .902 save percentage. He remains the Predators' top goalie, but his numbers are only marginally better than in previous seasons. Saros could be given a tough assignment if he starts Saturday at home versus the Lightning.

  • Ethen Frank RW | WAS

Capitals' Ethen Frank: Stuck outside of lineup

Frank was scratched for the 10th time in 12 games in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Predators.

Frank made a pair of appearances when the Capitals were dealing with injuries earlier in October, but he has no clear path to playing time. He's also competing with Ivan Miroshnichenko for a chance to play if an opening pops up. Frank had 24 points in 62 regular-season outings in 2025-26, but the Capitals' offseason additions have greatly reduced his opportunities in 2026-27.

  • Capitals' Jack St. Ivany: Adds two more assists

St. Ivany produced two assists and two hits in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Predators.

St. Ivany is looking like a good waiver claim for the Capitals. He's earned four assists over two outings with his new team after being held off the scoresheet in four games with the Jets to begin the year. The defenseman has a total of two shots on net, eight hits, seven blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over six outings, so he could offer a little physicality in a third-pairing role. He'll get at least a month to prove himself while Vincent Desharnais (appendectomy) is sidelined.

  • Lightning's Brayden Point: Modest three-game scoring streak

Point scored a goal Thursday in a 6-4 win over Winnipeg.

Point has quietly put up a three-game, four-point scoring streak that includes goals in back-to-back games. It's modest, but when you factor in that he's has just three goals in 12 games, this little run is like the sun breaking through the clouds. Point put up just 18 snipes in 63 games in an injury-hampered 2025-26. But his 14.0 shooting percentage last season was below his career 18.3, and he's off to a similarly sluggish start this year (12.0). It could be a simple explanation given the Bolts bad power play (26th overall), but his skating simply isn't the same these last two years.

  • Alexei Protas LW | WAS

Capitals' Aliaksei Protas: Provides two helpers

Protas notched a pair of assists and went plus-2 in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Predators.

Protas is starting to warm up -- he's earned three points over his last two games. The 25-year-old forward also has seven shots on net in that span. Protas is filling a middle-six role as a primarily defensive forward. He once again lacks a power-play spot, which could make his offense more streaky. Over 12 outings, he has a goal, four assists, 16 shots on net, seven hits, eight blocked shots and a plus-2 rating.
