Kings' Doug McDermott: Scores 16 points in starting role
McDermott amassed 16 points (6-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt) and one rebound across 27 minutes during Monday's 130-129 loss to the Nuggets.
McDermott got the start Monday due to the absence of Keegan Murray (ankle), and the veteran responded with an efficient performance and some much-needed floor spacing. His role in the upcoming games will be determined by Murray's availability, but expect McDermott to experience a slight uptick in minutes and usage rate if Murray remains sidelined.

Kings' Keon Ellis: Swats five shots
Ellis provided 12 points (3-7 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 5-5 FT), six rebounds, one assist, five blocks and two steals in 33 minutes during Monday's 130-129 loss to Denver.
Ellis stepped up in a big way with the Kings missing both Kevin Huerter (shoulder) and Keegan Murray (ankle), recording a career-high five blocks. He's very strong on the defensive end in that regard, as this was his fifth career game with at least three blocks. On the season, Ellis is just outside the top 150 in nine-category formats for per-game value, posting averages of 6.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.2 steals, 1.0 blocks and 1.3 three-pointers.

Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Stuffs stat sheet in loss
Sabonis accumulated 28 points (12-20 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 14 rebounds, six assists and three steals across 41 minutes during Monday's 130-129 loss to the Nuggets.
Sabonis had to deal with the nightmarish matchup of Nikola Jokic but still posted an impressive stat line across the board. Sabonis has started a new streak of double-doubles that is up to five games now, and he's averaging a robust 23.6 points, 15.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game in that stretch while shooting 63.4 percent from the floor.

Kings' Malik Monk: Impactful two-way performance
Monk amassed 25 points (9-19 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 3-3 FT), six rebounds, 10 assists, three blocks and one steal in 34 minutes during Monday's 130-129 loss to the Nuggets.
Monk has scored at least 20 points in three of his last five starts, but he's been making a difference due to his contributions in other categories. He's showing he's not just a one-dimensional scorer, posting a season-high mark in blocks and dishing out double-digit dimes for the second time in 2024-25. Monk has experienced an uptick in value, and the numbers back him up. He's averaging 18.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.3 assists and a combined 1.4 steals-plus-blocks in seven starts this season.

Kings' De'Aaron Fox: Puts up 29 points Monday
Fox closed with 29 points (11-24 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 5-6 FT), five rebounds, seven assists and one block in 39 minutes during Monday's 130-129 loss to Denver.
Fox snapped a seven-game stretch in which he didn't reach the 25-point mark, and this was the first time he accomplished that feat since Nov. 27 in a 115-104 win over the Timberwolves. The star floor general continues to find ways to impact the game even when he's not carrying the offense, though the Kings also have DeMar DeRozan, Domantas Sabonis and even Malik Monk to pick up the slack at times offensively. Fox is averaging 21.9 points, 7.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game since the beginning of December.

Kings' Trey Lyles: Nearing return to game action
Head coach Mike Brown said after Sunday's practice that Lyles (calf) is making good progress in his recovery, but the veteran big man remains uncertain to play during the Kings' four-game week, James Ham of Kings-Beat.beehiiv.com reports. "He's getting close, but he's not playing [Monday], and I don't even know if he's playing the game after that [Thursday against the Lakers," Brown said of Lyles. "He's progressing like anyone would with an injury."
Though Lyles was sidelined for a ninth straight game in Monday's 130-129 loss to the Nuggets, he's now reached the three-week mark in his recovery from the Grade 1 right calf strain he suffered in a Nov. 25 loss to the Thunder. Lyles' initial prognosis called for him to be evaluated in 3-to-4 weeks, so the 29-year-old may have reached the day-to-day phase of his recovery. Ham notes that Lyles was on the floor taking part in shooting drills during Sunday's practice, though Lyles may need to take contact in practice before the Kings clear him to play again. Lyles appears unlikely to be available for Thursday's game against the Lakers, but a return at some point during the Kings' weekend back-to-back set could be more realistic.

Kings' Doug McDermott: Starting sans Murray
McDermott will start in Monday's game against the Nuggets, Brenden Nunes of KHTK Sactown Sports 1140 reports.
With Keegan Murray (ankle) sidelined, McDermott will pick up his third start across 20 regular-season appearances. The 32-year-old forward delivered a season-best performance in last Sunday's win over Utah, during which he posted 18 points (6-7 FG, 6-7 3Pt) over only eight minutes, before receiving a DNP-CD in Thursday's win over the Pelicans.

Kings' Keegan Murray: Won't play Monday vs. Denver
Murray (ankle) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Nuggets, Frankie Cartoscelli of KHTK Sactown Sports 1140 reports.
Murray will miss his first game of the 2024-25 regular season Monday due to left ankle soreness, and his next opportunity to play will be Thursday against the Lakers. He had scored in double digits in four of the Kings' last five games and averaged 13.2 points and 7.4 rebounds across 34.4 minutes per contest over that span. Murray's absence Monday should mean more minutes for Colby Jones and Jae Crowder.

Kings' Keegan Murray: Iffy against Denver
Murray is questionable to play against the Nuggets on Monday due to left ankle soreness.
Murray was a very late addition to the injury report, and that's a concerning sign. The Kings will already be without Kevin Huerter (shoulder) as well. If Murray is unable to suit up, the Kings could potentially turn to Jae Crowder or Doug McDermott.

Kings' Kevin Huerter: Ruled out Monday
Huerter (shoulder) won't play Monday against the Nuggets.
Huerter was previously listed as doubtful and was not present at the morning shootaround. The Kings consider him day-to-day, so it's possible he could return Thursday against the Lakers. Keon Ellis and Colby Jones are candidates to see increased run Monday.

Kings' Colby Jones: Recalled to NBA
Sacramento recalled Jones from the G League's Stockton Kings on Sunday. He didn't play in the G League Kings' loss to the Rip City Remix on Sunday due to a sprained right wrist, though he is off the injury report for Monday's game against the Nuggets.
Jones continues to get most of his live reps with Stockton. He's averaging just 5.1 minutes per game at the NBA level across 16 appearances.

Kings' Kevin Huerter: Doubtful for Monday
Huerter (shoulder) is doubtful for Monday's game against the Nuggets.
Huerter is likely to miss Monday's contest due to a left AC joint sprain. Keon Ellis and Colby Jones are likely candidates to receive extra time if Huerter can't suit up.

Kings' Kevin Huerter: Day-to-day with shoulder sprain
Huerter is expected to be day-to-day with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder, James Ham of ESPN 1320 Sacramento reports.
Huerter sustained the injury at the 5:25 mark of the third quarter in Thursday's 111-109 victory over the Pelicans. The depth wing was able to finish the contest with seven points (2-10 FG, 1-8 3PT, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist and three steals across 28 minutes. It is possible his poor shooting effort could be attributed to the shoulder injury. The Kings next play Monday versus the Nuggets. Should he ultimately miss time, Keon Ellis and Colby Jones are candidates to absorb his minutes.

Kings' Keegan Murray: Efficient in victory
Murray contributed 18 points (7-14 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT) and nine rebounds in 34 minutes during Thursday's 111-109 win over the Pelicans.
Murray's 18 points were his most since Nov. 24. The 24-year-old guard has struggled with his efficiency from behind the arc this season, converting just 29.9 percent of his 5.5 three-point attempts per contest.

Kings' Malik Monk: Shooting woes in win Thursday
Monk registered five points (2-11 FG, 1-5 3Pt), nine assists, four rebounds, one block and one steal over 34 minutes during Thursday's 111-109 win over New Orleans.
Monk struggled to find his rhythm from the field Thursday as he tied his season-low mark in scoring. Despite shooting woes, the guard still racked up a team-high nine assists. The 26-year-old has successfully made the jump to the starting five, and in his last six outings, he has averaged 17.0 points, 6.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds while shooting 40.4 percent from deep across 33.2 minutes per game.

Kings' Domantas Sabonis: Explodes for massive double-double
Sabonis notched 32 points (11-15 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 9-9 FT), 20 rebounds, three assists and two steals in 34 minutes during Thursday's 111-109 victory over the Pelicans.
De'Aaron Fox and DeMar DeRozan had excellent performances Thursday, but there's no question Sabonis carried the Kings to what ended up being a closer-than-expected win. The star big man recorded his fifth double-double in six outings in December. He's averaging 23.7 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game since the beginning of the month. This was also the first 30-point, 20-rebound performance from any player in the current NBA season.

Kings' DeMar DeRozan: Scores 29 points Thursday
DeRozan produced 29 points (8-18 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 10-11 FT), four rebounds, two assists and four steals across 34 minutes during Thursday's 111-109 victory over New Orleans.
DeRozan had an impressive showing Thursday and extended his productive stretch, as he's scored at least 20 points in four of his last six outings. Even though the veteran forward shares the bulk of the scoring load with De'Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, DeRozan has a strong floor as a versatile scorer who can thrive even when he's not the main offensive option. He's averaging 23.3 points per game since the beginning of December, adding 3.7 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest.
