Hyder, 32, was released by the 49ers last week. He rejoins head coach DeMeco Ryans, who previously served as Hyder's defensive coordinator in San Francisco.

49ers' Kerry Hyder: Won't play Week 16
Rotowire
Hyder (ankle) has been deemed inactive ahead of Saturday's game versus the Commanders, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
Hyder will miss his first game of the season due to a lingering ankle injury picked up during the Week 14 win over Tampa Bay. The seventh-year defensive end has played a rotational role for San Francisco's dangerous pass rush this season. With Drake Jackson (coach's decision) also inactive Saturday, Charles Omenihu and Jordan Willis should be in line for increased usage behind Nick Bosa and Samson Ebukam.

Rotowire
San Francisco signed Hyder to a one-year, $1.5 million contract Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Seahawks' Kerry Hyder: Removed from COVID-19 list
Rotowire
The Seahawks activated Hyder (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.
After testing positive for the virus last Sunday, Hyder wasn't able to clear league protocols in time to play Tuesday against the Rams in L.A. However, he did so for Week 16 action, so he'll be out there Sunday versus the Bears. Hyder will be looking to add to his 30 tackles and a half sack this season with Nick Foles directing the offense in the other side.

Seahawks' Kerry Hyder: Staying in NFC West
Rotowire
Hyder signed a three-year, $16.5 million contract with the Seahawks on Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
When the 49ers' defensive line endured serious injury woes in 2020, Hyder took advantage, producing career highs in both tackles (49) and sacks (8.5). The Seahawks desperately need a pass-rushing upgrade on their defensive front, so Hyder should slot into a starting defensive end role for the team in 2021.

Lions' Kerry Hyder: Full participant in spring workouts
Rotowire
Hyder (Achilles) has been a full participant in spring workouts, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Hyder, who came out of nowhere to notch eight sacks for the Lions in 2016, suffered an Achilles injury in the 2017 preseason opener that prevented him from taking the field at any point last year. Barring any setbacks, the fifth-year defensive end will push Anthony Zettel for the starting job opposite Ezekiel Ansah in advance of the 2018 campaign.

Lions' Kerry Hyder: In midst of rehab
Rotowire
Hyder indicated Monday that he's "midway" through his rehab from a ruptured Achilles tendon and expects to be back to full strength for the start of the 2018 season, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports. "[The injury is] a small bump in the road on a long journey. I'm not even worried about it," Hyder said. "I'm looking forward to the 2018 season and I know I'm going to be back, better than ever."
Hyder was projected to start at defensive end opposite Ziggy Ansah in 2017 after breaking out for eight sacks the year prior, but his season came to an end in the Lions' first preseason contest after he sustained a non-contact injury. Though Hyder has yet to resume running four months since undergoing surgery to address the ruptured Achilles, he indicated that he would ramp up his activity in the "next couple weeks." It's unclear what kind of scheme the Lions will deploy in 2018 with the team bidding adieu to head coach Jim Caldwell, but Hyder's prior experience at defensive tackle should aid the new coaching staff's ability to find a role for him in a 4-3 or 3-4 base defense.
Head coach Jim Caldwell said Hyder suffered a "significant" Achilles injury.
This is an unfortunate development for the Lions, as Hyder led the team with eight sacks in 2016 and was expected to be a strong bookend to Ziggy Ansah (undisclosed) this season. Further testing officially will determine the severity of Hyder's injury.

Lions' Kerry Hyder: Notches two sacks in regular season opener
Rotowire
Hyder logged three tackles, including two sacks, in the Lions' 39-35 victory over the Browns on Sunday.
Following a three-sack performance in the team's preseason finale, Hyder clearly carried his momentum into the regular season. He isn't an overly-powerful player, nor quick, but has demonstrated a high motor and drew praise for his relentless effort from the Lions' coaching staff in the preseason. If he can work himself further into the rotation along Detroit's defensive line, and simply be given the opportunity to tally high tackle numbers, Hyder could develop into a legitimate IDP option over the course of the 2016 campaign.
