  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: TEs to Sit

It will be tough to trust Schultz when everyone is healthy for the Texans, and he's struggling right now as C.J. Stroud leans on Nico Collins, Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell. In two games, Schultz only has five catches for 41 yards and no touchdowns on six targets. He's not worth starting in the majority of leagues.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Limited practice Wednesday

Schultz (ankle) was limited at practice Wednesday. Schultz missed back-to-back practices last week before logging a full session Friday and avoiding a Week 2 injury designation. In the Texans' subsequent win over the Bears, Schultz caught two of his three targets for 21 yards while logging a 71 percent snap share. With no reported setbacks in that contest, it's plausible that Schultz's listed limitations Wednesday were simply load management ahead of Sunday's game against the Vikings.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Logs two catches in win

Schultz caught two of three targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 19-13 win over Chicago in Week 2. Schultz dealt with a minor ankle injury that forced him to miss two practices this week, but he was ready to go Sunday. The tight end has five catches on six targets for 37 yards through two games. Schultz had five more targets after two weeks in 2023, which suggests the addition of wide receiver Stefon Diggs is cutting into his opportunities.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: TEs to Sit

In Schultz's first game with Stefon Diggs in Houston and Tank Dell back from last year's broken leg, he struggled with just three catches for 16 yards on three targets. This could be the norm when Diggs, Dell and Nico Collins are healthy, and Schultz isn't worth starting in Week 3 against Chicago. He's also battling an ankle injury, which is something to monitor prior to Sunday.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Good to go against Bears

Schultz (ankle) was a full participant in practice Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bears. Schultz sat out a pair of practices Wednesday and Thursday, but it looks like those absences were mostly for maintenance, as he will again be able to play through the ankle injury he suffered early in the 29-22 Week 1 win over the Colts. He stayed in that game after initially sustaining the injury. Schultz's fantasy managers can deploy him as usual when the Texans host the Bears for Sunday Night Football.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Back at practice

Schultz (ankle) returned to practice Friday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. Per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, Schultz, who missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, is dealing with a minor ankle sprain and is expected to play Sunday night against the Bears. That said, it's still possible the Texans list the tight end as questionable for the contest on the team's final Week 2 injury report.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Not practicing Thursday

Schultz (ankle) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Schultz, who didn't practice Wednesday, thus has one more opportunity to log on-field reps ahead of Sunday's contest against the Bears. In the event that he's limited or out this weekend, added opportunities would be available for fellow tight ends Brevin Jordan and Cade Stover.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Three targets in Week 1

Schultz caught all three of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 29-27 win over the Colts in Week 1. As expected, Schultz was the snap and target leader at tight end, ahead of Brevin Jordan. Even so, Schultz may be hard pressed to repeat the 88 targets he had in 2023. The target distribution Sunday heavily skewed toward Houston's wideouts, who were targeted 22 times compared to five for the tight ends.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Makes preseason debut

Schultz did not catch his lone target in Friday's 20-12 preseason win over Pittsburgh. Schultz made his preseason debut and played 11 snaps in the first quarter. The Texans quickly extended him for three years during the offseason, after Schultz developed chemistry with then-rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. He'll be an important component to the team's passing attack, but Houston added a high-profile target in Stefon Diggs, which could cut into Schultz's opportunities.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Signs three-year extension

The Texans and Schultz agreed to terms on a three-year, $36 million contract extension on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Schultz will stick around with C.J. Stroud for the foreseeable future on a new deal that includes $23.5 million in guarantees, per Rapoport. Had he not been re-signed Schultz would've arguably been the top tight end of this free agency cycle, and keeping the pass-catching corps that Stroud found success with as a rookie intact makes complete sense for Houston. Across 15 regular-season games in 2023, Schultz secured 59 of 88 targets for 635 yards and five scores.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Five catches in loss

Schultz recorded five receptions on seven targets for 43 yards in Saturday's 34-10 loss to the Ravens. Schultz finished second on the team in targets and delivered a few big plays, most notably a 21-yard catch late in the first quarter to set up a field goal. Earlier in the same drive, he dropped a pass -- his second in as many games this postseason. Despite some inconsistency on a game-to-game basis, Schultz remains a steady contributor overall, as he has topped 55 receptions in four consecutive seasons while reaching 600 receiving yards in three of those four campaigns. He'll enter free agency this offseason after one year with the Texans, and he should have a significant role wherever he lands.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Limited to two targets

Schultz recorded one catch on two targets for 37 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 45-14 win over the Browns. Schultz had a limited role in the offense, as he matched his lowest target total in any game of the regular season. He had a drop early in the first quarter but redeemed himself with a long 37-yard touchdown reception just before halftime. The Texans held a three-score lead for much of the final two quarters, limiting passing volume for the entire team. He should have a chance to be more involved in Houston's divisional-round matchup.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Seven targets in win

Schultz caught five of seven targets for 42 yards in Saturday's 23-19 win over Indianapolis in Week 18. Schultz had the second-most targets behind Nico Collins (nine) on a day when the Texans operated without three injured wideouts. The tight end has been important all season and could continue as a prominent target in the postseason. However, Schultz will have more competition for quarterback C.J. Stroud's attention if Noah Brown (back) and/or Robert Woods (hip) are available next week.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Sleeper TEs

Schultz only had four catches for 34 yards on seven targets in Week 2 against the Colts, but he should do better in the rematch in Week 18. He's coming off a down game in Week 17 against Tennessee with only two catches for 19 yards on four targets, and he hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 11. But the Colts have allowed two of the past four tight ends to score a touchdown with Tanner Hudson in Week 14 and Kyle Pitts in Week 16, and Schultz should be a go-to option for C.J. Stroud in this matchup.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Bust Alert (Start/Sit)

The Titans just allowed their first touchdown to a tight end this season in Week 16 against Seattle with Colby Parkinson. But no tight end has scored 11 PPR points this year against Tennessee, and Schultz was just held to four catches for 58 yards on five targets in Week 15. He had a great game in Week 16 against Cleveland with eight catches for 61 yards on 11 targets, but Schultz should have a down game in Week 17 given the matchup.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Sleeper TEs

Schultz was OK in Week 15 at Tennessee in his first game back after being out for two games with an injured hamstring. He had four catches for 58 yards on five targets against the Titans, but that was without C.J. Stroud (concussion) and Nico Collins (calf). Stroud is out again in Week 16 against Cleveland, with Case Keenum to start at quarterback, but Collins should return to action. Even with Collins back, I still like Schultz as a low-end starter in all leagues. The Browns have been awful against tight ends of late with four touchdowns allowed in their past four games, and Evan Engram and Cole Kmet each scored at least 13.3 PPR points against Cleveland in the past two games. Hopefully, Schultz can follow suit in Week 16.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Back at practice

Schultz (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports. Schultz has missed two straight games, but his presence on the field Wednesday offers hope that the tight end could return to return to action Sunday against the Titans. The Texans will release their first Week 15 injury report later Wednesday, when the extent of Schultz's activity in practice will be known.

  • Texans' Dalton Schultz: Won't play Sunday

Schultz (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jets. After a limited practice session Wednesday, Schultz didn't practice either Thursday or Friday and will miss a second straight game this weekend. In his absence, Brevin Jordan is once again expected to serve as Houston's top pass-catching tight end Week 14. Schultz will target a potential return to action Dec. 17 against the Titans in Week 15.
