  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Inactive again

Johnson (ankle) is listed as inactive Saturday at Denver, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. Johnson suffered an ankle injury Week 18 against the Jets that now has sidelined him for both of Buffalo's first two playoff contests. With Johnson out again, Ray Davis and Frank Gore will be the backfield options behind starter James Cook.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Could return Saturday

Johnson (ankle) is listed as questionable ahead of Saturday's divisional-round matchup against the Broncos. Johnson appears to be trending in the right direction ahead of Saturday's divisional-round contest in Denver, as he upgraded to limited practice Thursday after missing Buffalo's wild-card win over the Jaguars due to an ankle issue. If active, the Maryland product could play an important role on the Bills' offense, having caught 24 of 33 targets for 263 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season, particularly with Joshua Palmer (ankle), Gabe Davis (knee) and Tyrell Shavers (knee) sidelined Saturday.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Upgrades to limited work

Johnson (ankle) will be a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports. The 28-year-old from Maryland opened the Bills' week of practice with consecutive DNPs after missing the wild-card round win over the Jaguars. However, Johnson upgraded to limited practice Thursday, suggesting he's trending in the right direction ahead of Saturday's matchup against the Broncos. If active for the divisional round, Johnson will likely operate as the Bills' top backup running back behind James Cook.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: DNP again Wednesday

Johnson (ankle) did not participate in Wednesday's practice. Wednesday marks consecutive practices in which Johnson has been unable to participate, leaving his status for Saturday's divisional-round clash with the Broncos unclear. The running back missed last Sunday's playoff victory over the Jaguars due to a persistent ankle issue, and he will likely miss this Saturday's contest unless he can upgrade his practice participation in Thursday's session.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Not ready to practice

Bills head coach Sean McDermott said that Johnson (ankle) won't practice Tuesday, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports. Though he was inactive for the Bills' wild-card win over the Jaguars this past Sunday, Johnson was able to practice in a limited fashion Friday. The running back will take a step down in terms of activity as the team begin prep for Saturday's divisional-round game in Denver. Johnson will likely need to put in a full practice session by Thursday for the Bills to feel optimistic about his chances of being part of the backfield rotation this weekend.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Inactive versus Jaguars

Johnson (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's wild-card contest against the Jaguars. Johnson logged a season-high 13 carries in the Bills' Week 18 win over the Jets, with the team electing to limit lead back James Cook to just two snaps in order to keep him healthy ahead of the playoffs. Johnson emerged from the contest with an ankle injury that led to him being deemed a non-participant in Wednesday's walkthrough as well as Thursday's practice. After returning to a limited session Friday, Johnson headed into the weekend listed as questionable. Now that he's been made inactive versus Jacksonville, Ray Davis and practice-squad elevation Frank Gore are on hand to work in complementary roles out of Buffalo's backfield behind Cook on Sunday.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Questionable for wild-card round

Johnson (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's wild-card contest at Jacksonville. Johnson emerged from a Week 18 win against the Jets with an ankle injury that left him day-to-day, as coach Sean McDermott told Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News on Monday. After sitting out Wednesday's walkthrough and Thursday's practice, Johnson mixed back into drills as a limited participant Friday, thus giving him a chance to suit up this weekend. If he's deemed active about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, Johnson and Ray Davis will serve in complementary roles out of the Bills backfield behind No. 1 option James Cook.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Remains non-participant Thursday

Johnson (ankle) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports. Head coach Sean McDermott labeled Johnson day-to-day Wednesday, but the running back was unable to practice Thursday after being deemed a non-participant during Wednesday's walk-through. Johnson's last opportunity to practice before Sunday's wild-card round game against the Jaguars will be Friday. If Johnson's unavailable Sunday, Ray Davis could get more opportunities to spell James Cook against Jacksonville's stout run defense.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Garners eight touches in Week 17

Johnson rushed five times for 15 yards and caught three of four targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 13-12 loss to the Eagles. Johnson was able to tote the rock a season-high five times while corralling multiple passes for the eighth time in nine games. The running back has proven to be a reliable pass catcher for Buffalo, but unless he reaches the end zone, he doesn't have much fantasy utility in shallow leagues.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Scores rush TD in win

Johnson rushed three times for 16 yards and a touchdown in the Bills' 23-20 win over the Browns on Sunday. Johnson and Ray Davis each logged three rush attempts behind James Cook's 16, and the former was able to deliver a serviceable fantasy day thanks to a two-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. Johnson wasn't targeted for the first time in eight games, but he's likely to see his pass-catching production tick back up in a Week 17 showdown against the Eagles.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Gets seven touches in Week 15 win

Johnson turned four carries into 13 yards and caught three passes on as many targets for 15 yards during the Bills' 35-31 win over the Patriots on Sunday. Johnson iced the game for the Bills with a two-yard rush late in the fourth quarter, which was enough to pick up the first down and seal the win. His seven touches were a season high, and while he worked ahead of Ray Davis (one catch on as many targets for 13 yards, along with no carries), it was James Cook who predictably served as the bell-cow running back in Sunday's win. Johnson will continue to operate as a change-of-pace back when spelling Cook, so the former doesn't carry much fantasy appeal into the Bills' Week 16 tilt against the Browns on Sunday, Dec. 21.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Totals 25 yards in win

Johnson rushed two times for five yards and secured three of five targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 26-7 win over the Steelers. On a day Josh Allen completed passes to eight different receivers, Johnson's five targets led the Bills, and his three catches matched James Cook and Dawson Knox for the team lead. Johnson doesn't see nearly enough touch volume to be a recommended fantasy target, but he's involved enough to make this offense one to try and avoid most weeks outside of Allen and Cook since the ball is spread around to so many different players.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Solid as receiver in loss

Johnson rushed twice for seven yards and brought in all three targets for 45 yards in the Bills' 23-19 loss to the Texans on Thursday night. He also returned one kickoff for 22 yards. Johnson continued to serve as the No. 2 back behind starter James Cook over Ray Davis, who didn't log a carry. However, as is often the case, Johnson made a bigger impact as a receiver, recording multiple receptions for the fourth straight contest and eclipsing 40 receiving yards for the second consecutive game. Johnson's fantasy appeal remains limited to deep full-PPR formats and large-field DFS tournaments as long as Cook is healthy, and he'll fill his usual complementary role again in a Week 13 road matchup against the Steelers on Sunday, Nov. 30.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Totals 21 yards in TNF win

Johnson rushed three times for 13 yards and caught one pass for eight yards in Buffalo's win over Miami on Thursday night. Johnson played 15 offensive snaps behind James Cook and has now amassed 51 total yards on eight touches through three games. He has minimal fantasy value.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Minimal production against Jets

Johnson rushed twice for six yards and failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 30-10 win over the Jets. Johnson was not a big part of the Bills' game plan Sunday, playing just 19 of Buffalo's 75 offensive snaps behind both James Cook (35) and Ray Davis (20). The veteran running back has just four total rushes and zero catches on three targets through the first two games of the season. Barring an injury to either Cook or Davis, Johnson is unlikely to hold much reliable fantasy value in an offense flush with playmakers. The 28-year-old will get his next chance to be more involved when the Bills host the Dolphins in Week 3.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Staying in Buffalo

Johnson and the Bills agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Johnson finished the 2024 regular season with 497 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns on 59 touches across 17 games, and his 289 offensive snaps were his most since the 2021 campaign with the Jets. Johnson figures to reprise his role as a kick-return specialist and backup running back behind James Cook for the 2025 campaign.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Three touches in loss

Johnson rushed twice for 13 yards and caught one of his two targets for no gain in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Patriots. Johnson played 17 of the Bills' 67 offensive snaps in the contest, behind Ray Davis (35) and James Cook (15). With Buffalo already locked into the No. 2 seed before the game, the Bills chose to rest many of their key players for all or most of the contest. Johnson remained in his similar role, while the rookie Davis benefitted the most with expanded playing time. The veteran will continue to operate in a supporting role behind Cook when the Bills host the Broncos in the wild card round of the playoffs.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Five touches against Jets

Johnson rushed four times for 16 yards and caught his lone target for nine yards in Sunday's 40-14 win over the Jets. Johnson was mostly an afterthought in the Bills victory over the Jets, producing a modest 25 total yards in the contest. The veteran finished second in running back snaps (21), behind James Cook (32) and ahead of Ray Davis (16). Buffalo has clinched the No. 2 seed in the playoffs, so it's possible that head coach Sean McDermott could choose to rest his starters in the season finale. In that scenario, Johnson and Davis could both see an uptick in usage in place of Cook. The Bills will host the Patriots in Week 18.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Targeted three times in Week 10

Johnson caught all three of his targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 30-20 win over the Colts. Johnson failed to record a single carry in the contest, however. The Bills' No. 3 running back has now totaled just 17 rushing attempts for 99 yards and a score on the ground through 10 weeks, while playing behind teammates James Cook and Ray Davis. Johnson has also recorded eight catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns. With Cook and Davis both healthy, the 27-year-old Johnson doesn't hold much fantasy value heading into a Week 11 clash with Kansas City.

  • Bills' Ty Johnson: Fills backup role Monday

Johnson rushed four times for 34 yards and was not targeted as a passer in Monday's 23-20 win over the Jets. Johnson was one of two candidates to replace starter James Cook's (toe) touches Monday, but it turned out to be fellow backup Ray Davis (152 combined yards on 23 touches) who benefited from a fantasy standpoint. The 26-year-old Johnson was worth a waiver add Week 6, but given the touch distribution -- plus the potential for Cook to return -- the backup running back is a low-end fantasy option Week 7. The Bills are set to host the Titans on Sunday.
