    Buechele signed a practice-squad contract with Buffalo on Monday, Alec White and Mike Maynard of the team's official site report. Buechele spent training camp with the Bills but was cut Sunday. However, he'll stick with the team as organizational depth on the practice squad. Unless Josh Allen or Kyle Allen becomes unavailable for any reason, Buechele isn't likely to be a regular part of Buffalo's game-day roster.

Buechele is returning to Buffalo after spending the majority of the 2025 campaign on the team's practice squad. The 28-year-old also had a brief stint with Kansas City, appearing in one game and completing seven of 14 pass attempts for 88 yards. He could be a candidate to serve as the Bills' No. 3 quarterback during the 2026 season.

Buechele spent the majority of the 2025 regular season on the Bills' practice squad, and he now returns to the unit as Buffalo prepares to begin the postseason with a wild-card round matchup against Jacksonville on Sunday. Due to being poached by Kansas City late December, Buechele got an opportunity to play the second half of the Chiefs' regular-season finale against the Raiders in Week 18, in which he completed seven of 14 passes for 88 yards while rushing once for four yards. He served as Kansas City's backup quarterback for the final two games of the regular season.

    The Chiefs waived Buechele on Monday, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports. Buechele spent the majority of the 2025 season on the Bills' practice squad before being signed to the Chiefs' active roster in late December. He served as Kansas City's backup quarterback for the final two games of the regular season behind Chris Oladokun, but Buechele ended up playing in the second half of Sunday's regular-season finale against the Raiders, when he completed seven of 14 passes for 88 yards while adding a four-yard carry. Assuming he clears waivers, Buechele will have the opportunity to reunite with the Bills on the practice squad or join another playoff team in need of a scout-team quarterback.

    Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Monday that Buechele will be out for an extended amount of time after sustaining a neck injury in Saturday's 33-6 preseason loss to the Bears, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports. Buechele took over under center in the second half of Saturday's contest after Josh Allen and Mitch Trubisky handled snaps in the first half. Buechele finished the contest completing six of 10 passes for 53 yards and one interception while adding 22 rushing yards on three carries. The Bills brought in Ben DiNucci to take snaps with the second- and third-team offenses while Buechele is sidelined.
