  • Quintez Cephus: Joins Rams' practice squad

The Rams signed Cephus to their practice squad Wednesday. Cephus failed to make the Texans' initial 53-man roster in late August, but he's found a new opportunity in Los Angeles. The veteran wideout's most recent in-game action came with the Lions in 2022, when he caught two passes for 15 yards across four contests. Cephus has a chance to be elevated to the Rams' active roster at some point, with Cooper Kupp (ankle) and Puka Nacua (knee) both expected to miss significant time.

  • Quintez Cephus: Cut by Texans

The Texans waived Cephus on Tuesday. After being waived by the Bills in May, Cephus caught on with the Texans in mid-July before the start of training camp. He had been competing for a depth spot at wide receiver, and across four preseason games, he registered six catches on 10 targets for 40 yards. The 2020 fifth-round pick should garner some interest from teams in need of a wide receiver either on the active roster or practice squad.

  • Texans' Quintez Cephus: Lands in Houston

Cephus agreed to terms Tuesday on a contract with the Texans, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Cephus spent time in Buffalo earlier this offseason, but he was cut by the Bills prior to the 2024 NFL Draft. The 2020 fifth-round pick briefly flashed during his time in Detroit, but he was then suspended the entire 2023 season for violating the league's gambling policy. Now, Cephus will compete for a depth role in Houston's crowded WR room, with all of Robert Woods, Noah Brown, John Metchie, Ben Skowronek and Xavier Hutchinson vying for end-of-roster gigs. At best, Cephus will likely be competing for a spot on the practice squad.

  • Quintez Cephus: Time up in Buffalo

The Bills waived Cephus on Thursday. Cephus landed with Buffalo back in April after having missed the entire 2023 season for violating the league's gambling policy. Now, the 2020 fifth-round pick will have to search for a chance to reignite his career with another club. He suited up for 22 regular-season games with the Lions from 2020-22.

  • Bills' Quintez Cephus: Signs with Buffalo

Cephus reached an agreement with the Bills on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Cephus is attempting to revive his NFL career after he was suspended all of last season for violating the league's gambling policy. The 26-year-old wide receiver played in 13 games with Detroit during his 2020 rookie campaign, totaling 20 receptions for 349 yards and two touchdowns, but he participated in just nine contests in the subsequent two years, compiling 17 catches for 219 yards and two scores. Cephus will have a chance to compete for a roster spot among a Buffalo wide-receiver corps that will look much different from last season with the offseason departures of Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

  • Quintez Cephus: Reinstated from suspension

The NFL reinstated Cephus from suspension Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The 2020 fifth-round pick was one of five players reinstated Thursday, out of the seven suspended indefinitely last offseason for violations of the league's gambling policy. The Lions released Cephus shortly thereafter but may now have some interest in bringing him back to compete for a depth role. He showed some promise his first two seasons while totaling 553 receiving yards and four TDs in 18 games (five starts), with a foot injury then limiting him to four appearances and 15 yards in 2022. He recently turned 26 years old and should get a tryout somewhere even if Detroit isn't interested in a reunion.

  • Quintez Cephus: Released by Lions

The Lions have released Cephus (foot), NFL.com reports. The move follows news that Cephus has been suspended indefinitely for violating the league's gambling policy. Per the report, Cephus can reapply for reinstatement after the conclusion of the 2023 season. The 2020 fifth-rounder is coming off a 2022 campaign in which a foot injury limited him to four games with Detroit, during which he caught two passes for 15 yards.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Ready to practice

Detroit designated Cephus (foot) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. The transaction opens up a 21-day window in which Cephus can be evaluated in practice before Detroit would have to add him back to the 53-man roster. Once he's ready to play, the 2020 fifth-round selection should work sparingly in the slot behind Amon-Ra St. Brown.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Ruled out for Week 5

Cephus (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Patriots. Cephus suffered the foot injury during the team's Week 4 loss to the Seahawks and was unable to practice ahead of Week 5, so his lack of availability for Sunday isn't surprising. DJ Chark (ankle) has also been ruled out, while Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and Josh Reynolds (ankle) are questionable, so the Lions may be extremely limited at wideout for a second straight game, which should once again be beneficial for T.J. Hockenson.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Doesn't practice again

Cephus (foot) did not practice Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Cephus following up his DNP on Wednesday with another one Thursday leaves his availability for Sunday against the Patriots in serious doubt. The third-year wideout left Week 4's loss to the Seahawks early with the injury after catching two of three targets for 15 yards. The Lions' receiver corps is banged up across the board, with Kalif Raymond and Tom Kennedy the only wideouts not carrying an injury designation at the moment.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Sits out Wednesday

Cephus (foot) did not participate during the Lions' practice Wednesday. Cephus caught two of three targets for 15 yards before suffering a foot injury that sidelined him for the remainder of Sunday's loss to the Seahawks. While the exact nature and severity of this injury are still unclear, the wideout's inability to suit up during the first practice of Week 5 is a discouraging sign for his availability. If Cephus' status does not improve Thursday or Friday, then Tom Kennedy, who was signed from the practice squad Wednesday, could see increased usage in Detroit's banged-up wide receiver corps.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Won't return Sunday

Cephus (foot) has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Cephus had an increased role to begin Sunday's matchup since Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and DJ Chark (ankle) were both out. However, Cephus tallied just two receptions for 15 yards prior to his departure. Tom Kennedy and Maurice Alexander should see increased opportunities for the Lions down the stretch.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Leaves with injury

Cephus left Sunday's game with the Seahawks early with a foot injury. Cephus was playing an increased role with Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle) and DJ Chark (ankle) both out with injuries. The third-year receiver had hauled in two passes for 15 yards before exiting. While he is out, Tom Kennedy and Maurice Alexander will likely see extra opportunities.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Sees just two offensive snaps

Cephus logged two offensive snaps but did not have a target during Sunday's 38-35 loss to the Eagles. Cephus and Kalif Raymond only saw a handful of snaps behind Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark and Josh Reynolds. Within an offense that will also feed its running backs and tight ends in the passing game, Cephus figures to remain far off the fantasy radar while everyone is healthy.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Sticks in Detroit

Cephus remains on the Lions' initial 53-man roster following Tuesday's cutdown deadline, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. The Lions kept only five receivers in the continued absence of rookie first-round pick Jameson Williams (knee), but Cephus will be sticking around despite missing most of the summer with an undisclosed leg injury. However, as nothing more than the No. 4 or 5 receiver in an offense that will feed targets to its starting tight end and running back, Cephus is a much longer shot for fantasy relevance this year than he was out of the gate in 2021.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Touchdown in preseason finale

Cephus caught one of three targets for five yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Steelers. Cephus made his preseason debut after missing most of the summer with an undisclosed leg injury. While he didn't earn many targets despite playing into the fourth quarter, he did well to get open for a touchdown on a broken play at the end of the game. Considering the Lions kept up to seven receivers on the roster last year, Cephus seems to have good odds of surviving cuts this week, especially with Jameson Williams (knee) on the PUP list.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Injures leg, should be OK

Head coach Dan Campbell doesn't think the leg injury Cephus suffered in Tuesday's practice is serious, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. "[Cephus] will be down for we feel like a short period of time, but I think he's going to be OK," Campbell said. Cephus was helped off the practice field Tuesday, slowing his momentum in what's otherwise been a strong offseason by all accounts. The 2020 fifth-round pick missed most of last season with a broken collarbone, then saw the Lions add DJ Chark and Jameson Williams (knee) to their receiving corps this spring. Still, there's an opportunity for Cephus to win the third or fourth receiver spot to start the season, especially with Williams unlikely to be available following his ACL tear in January,

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Moves to COVID list

Cephus (undisclosed) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. Cephus was already on IR and ruled out for the season with a broken collarbone, which he suffered in the Lions' Week 5 loss to the Vikings. The second-year wideout finished his season with 15 receptions on 22 targets for 204 yards and a touchdown across 5 games.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Shifts to IR

Cephus (collarbone) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. The transaction was fully expected after Cephus sustained a broken collarbone in the team's Week 5 loss to the Vikings. The injury will likely sideline the wideout for the remainder of the season, leaving an already weak Lions receiving corps in dire shape as Tyrell Williams (concussion) is expected to spend at least another week on IR. Detroit appears set to head into Sunday's game against the Bengals with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Kalif Raymond and KhaDarel Hodge as its top wideouts.

  • Lions' Quintez Cephus: Likely done for season

Lions head coach Dan Campbell confirmed Monday that Cephus likely will miss the rest of the season after the receiver sustained a broken collarbone in Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Vikings, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Cephus is slated to undergo surgery to address the injury, which typically entails a three-month recovery. While that timeline theoretically gives Cephus a chance to make it back for Week 18 in early January, the 0-5 Lions aren't expected to be in playoff contention and most likely won't be looking to activate the second-year wideout. Through five games, Cephus had been one of the better producers in a weak Detroit pass-catching group, notching 15 receptions for 204 yards and two touchdowns on 22 targets.
