  • PJ Walker: Set loose by Seattle

The Seahawks released Walker on Tuesday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. Walker never seemed like a true candidate to beat out Sam Howell for the No. 2 role behind Geno Smith, but he could resurface on Seattle's practice squad as the team's emergency third quarterback. The veteran signal-caller appeared in six games for the Browns last season.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Back with Browns

Cleveland signed Walker on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the Browns placed Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) on their injured reserve list Tuesday. Per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, Walker is now set to back up Joe Flacco on Thursday versus the Jets. Over six games with Cleveland earlier this season, Walker posted a mediocre 6.1 yards per pass attempt and threw just one touchdown to five interceptions.

  • PJ Walker: Returns to Cleveland

Walker signed with the Browns' practice squad Monday, Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports.com reports. Walker was the odd man out in Cleveland's quarterback room when Joe Flacco was brought aboard and ended up being waived Saturday. He'll now return to the organization and help the team's organizational depth at the position.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Behind Flacco on depth chart

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Walker has been surpassed by Joe Flacco on Cleveland's quarterback depth chart, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports. Walker struggled in relief in Week 12 against the Broncos after starter Dorian Thompson-Robinson left the 29-12 loss early due to a concussion. Thompson-Robinson remains in concussion protocol, and even if he isn't cleared in time to play Sunday against the Rams, Flacco would get the start, with Walker backing up the 38-year-old. Flacco will presumably be elevated from the practice squad prior to Sunday, regardless of Thompson-Robinson's status.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: May not start Week 11

The Browns could turn to Dorian Thompson-Robinson rather than Walker to serve as their starting quarterback Sunday against the Steelers after the team announced Wednesday that Deshaun Watson will undergo season-ending shoulder injury, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Head coach Kevin Stefanski could shed more light on the Browns' plans at quarterback when he meets with the media later Wednesday, but it appears as though Walker -- who had been operating as Watson's backup for the past two games and made two starts earlier this season -- may give way to Thompson-Robinson this weekend. Meanwhile, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com relays that Cleveland is expected to look into signing another quarterback in the coming days to provide the team with a third option at the position. In his two starts plus three relief appearances behind Watson this season, Walker has thrown for one touchdown against five interceptions while completing just 48 of 98 pass attempts for 618 yards.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Back to bench with Watson in

Walker will return to a backup role Sunday against the Cardinals, as head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Friday that Deshaun Watson (shoulder) will start Week 9. Watson will make just his second start since Week 3. The last time Watson played Week 7 against the Colts, he aggravated the injury and didn't return for the final three quarters, resulting in Walker playing most of that game. Barring another injury to Watson, Walker is likely to see limited snaps the rest of the season.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Set to start Sunday

Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Walker will start Sunday's game against the Seahawks. Walker -- who was signed to the Browns' 53-man roster earlier Wednesday -- will make his second start of the season and should be in store for his third extended outing in a row while Deshaun Watson focuses on rehabbing his injured throwing shoulder. After Watson missed the final three quarters of the Week 7 game against the Colts upon experiencing a setback with the shoulder injury that had kept him out for the previous two games, Walker came on in relief and completed 15 of 32 pass attempts for 178 yards and one interception in the Browns' 39-38 win. The Browns have won both of the games that Walker has appeared in this season, but it's largely been on the strength of the defense and kicking game rather than the quarterback, who has completed just half of his passes for 5.6 yards per attempt while throwing three picks.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Added to active roster

The Browns signed Walker to the 53-man roster Wednesday. Per Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, the move was expected given that Walker has already been elevated from the practice squad the maximum three times. With Deshaun Watson dealing with a shoulder issue ahead of Sunday's game in Seattle, Walker is a candidate to make his second start of the season after playing the majority of the Browns' Week 7 win over the Colts in relief of Watson.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Goes back to practice squad

Walker reverted to the Browns' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report. Deshaun Watson returned from a two-game absence Sunday at Indianapolis but lasted only 12 plays before undergoing a concussion check. He cleared the protocol for head injuries, but out of an abundance of caution, the Browns opted not to risk the existing strained rotator cuff in his right throwing shoulder. The team considers Watson day-to-day moving forward, as coach Kevin Stefanski told Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal on Monday. In Watson's stead, Walker completed 15 of 32 passes for 178 yards, no touchdowns and one interception against the Colts, and the latter could be in line for another start if Watson isn't able to gain medical clearance ahead of Sunday's game at Seattle.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Orchestrates upset win over 49ers

Walker completed 18 of 34 passes for 192 yards and two interceptions in Sunday's 19-17 win over the 49ers. He added one yard on three rushing attempts. Walker made his Browns debut in place of Deshaun Watson (shoulder) and surprisingly helped Cleveland hand San Francisco its first loss of the season. The former Carolina quarterback completed his first two passes with Cleveland, but Walker's third pass was picked off. It looked like Walker's second interception would cost his team the game, as the 49ers scored a go-ahead touchdown one play after returning Walker's fourth-quarter interception to Cleveland's eight-yard line, but the Browns responded with field goals on their next two possessions. The 49ers then missed a 41-yard field goal in the final seconds to seal the upset. Watson failed to practice in the week leading up to this win, and if the usual starter isn't ready to return in Week 7 against the Colts, Walker would likely be tabbed for another start.

  • Browns' PJ Walker: Elevated to active roster

Walker was elevated to the Browns' active roster Saturday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports. The move comes with Deshaun Watson (shoulder) listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Ravens. If Watson is ruled out, Walker would fill in as the backup quarterback while Dorian Thompson-Robinson would be in line for his first NFL start.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Starts five games

Walker started five of his six games played this season, completing 63 of 106 attempts (59.4%) for 731 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions. Walker was thrust into Carolina's starting role amid injuries to Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold. Although he led the Panthers to a couple of wins, Walker was inconsistent prior to suffering an ankle injury of his own. As Walker is a restricted free agent this offseason, it may be surprising if he is retained, as his spot with the Panthers was connected to his former college coach, Matt Rhule, who was fired by Carolina early in the 2022 campaign.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Ready for Week 14

Walker (ankle) is expected to suit up in Week 14 versus the Seahawks, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official website reports. Walker will be ready to go for the Panthers' first game following their bye week after missing the last two contests with an ankle sprain. With Baker Mayfield being let go Monday, Walker will likely operate as the top backup quarterback option behind Sam Darnold for the stretch run. Walker has produced 731 passing yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions while also rushing for 39 yards over six games this year.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Inactive Sunday

Walker (ankle) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against Denver. Walker was considered doubtful for Sunday's contest, so it's not a surprise he won't be suiting up. Sam Darnold will make his first start of the season with Baker Mayfield filling the backup role.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Listed as limited Thursday

Walker (ankle) was listed as limited on Thursday's injury report, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Walker emerged from Week 10 action with a high-ankle sprain, which is expected to sideline him for a second game in a row Sunday versus the Broncos. Interim coach Steve Wilks said as much Wednesday, when Walker was limited, as he wants to give the quarterback Carolina's Week 13 bye to aid his recovery further. This weekend, Sam Darnold will direct the offense, with Baker Mayfield backing him up.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Steers clear of turnovers in win

Walker completed 10 of 16 passes for 108 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed three times for 14 yards in the Panthers' 25-15 win over the Falcons on Thursday night. Walker operated in a very strict game-manager role while D'Onta Foreman carried the load for the offense, but at least the inconsistent signal-caller remained free of turnovers after a benching in Week 9. Walker's modest but steady performance seemingly keeps him in the starting role for a Week 11 road matchup against the Ravens a week from Sunday.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Will draw another start in Week 9

Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks said Monday that Walker will start again this Sunday against the Bengals, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Walker drew a second straight start Week 8, but aside from a 62-yard Hail Mary touchdown at the end of regulation, the undrafted quarterback struggled mightily against Atlanta's poor defense. Baker Mayfield has moved past his high-ankle sprain, while Sam Darnold (ankle) remains out, though he was designated to return from IR ahead of Week 7. Despite encouraging developments from Mayfield and Darnold, Wilks will continue to roll with Walker for at least one more week. During his two starts, Walker has completed 60.3 percent of his passes for 494 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, which was returned for a TD.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Leads monumental upset win

Walker completed 16 of 22 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Panthers' 21-3 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. Walker managed to turn in what was arguably the best game of his career against about the biggest-name opponent possible, with the Temple product outdueling Tom Brady in one of the most improbable results of a season full of them thus far. He opened the scoring just before halftime with a 20-yard scoring strike to DJ Moore, and he ultimately salted the game with a perfectly thrown 29-yard touchdown pass to Tommy Tremble with 9:33 remaining. Baker Mayfield went into the weekend doubtful with his high-ankle sprain and was ultimately ruled inactive, and Sam Darnold (ankle) has already been designated for return from IR and began practicing this week. Therefore, Walker will likely need to put together another strong performance in a favorable Week 8 road matchup against the Falcons in order to have a chance to hold on to the starting role going into November.

  • Panthers' PJ Walker: Set to start Sunday

Interim head coach Steve Wilks confirmed Wednesday that Walker (neck) will start Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Though Wilks noted that Sam Darnold (ankle) looked good in his return to practice Wednesday, the team will turn to Walker in Week 7 while incumbent starter Baker Mayfield continues to tend to an ankle injury. Jacob Eason is slated to serve as Walker's backup on Sunday, per Joe Person of The Athletic. Walker, who suffered a neck injury late in last week's loss to the Rams but has since been cleared, thus represents a short-term fantasy lineup option for managers in two-quarterback or superflex formats or for those who are in need of a bye-week replacement.

  • Panthers' P.J. Walker: Ruled out with neck injury

Walker cleared the concussion protocol but has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Rams due to a neck injury, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports. Walker completed 10 of 16 passes for 60 yards and rushed once for minus-1 yard prior to being replaced by third-stringer Jacob Eason. He started in place of Baker Mayfield (ankle). Walker was originally evaluated for a head injury, but the injury appears to be to his neck instead.
