  • Alex Barrett: Let go by San Francisco

Barrett was waived by the 49ers on Monday. The defensive end was let go to make room for kicker Greg Joseph, who might get a chance to compete with Jake Moody for the starting job. Barrett saw action in three games with the 49ers in 2024, playing on 23 defensive and 64 special-teams snaps. Before that, he last played in an NFL regular-season game in 2020, also with the 49ers.

  • 49ers' Alex Barrett: Re-signs with 49ers

Barrett signed with the 49ers on Sunday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The 49ers claimed James Lockhart off waivers from the Steelers on Sunday, but Lockhart opted to retire rather than play in 2020. As a result, the team re-signed Barrett to add depth at defensive end since Nick Bosa (leg), Arik Armstead (back) and Dee Ford (calf) are dealing with injuries.

  • Alex Barrett: Reaches injury settlement

The Raiders released Barrett (undisclosed) after reaching an injury settlement, Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. It's not clear what was bothering Barrett, but he will now be a free agent. The 25-year-old will likely look for a practice-squad role elsewhere.
