Hood sustained a quadriceps injury during a training camp practice in mid-August. It appears the rookie second-rounder has recovered from the injury based on Wednesday's report, putting him on track to make his NFL regular-season debut Sunday against the Cowboys. He figures to operate in a rotational role in the secondary, with most of his reps coming on special teams.

Hood (quadriceps) is expected to return to practice this week, Paul Schwartz of New York Post reports.
Hood has been dealing with a quadriceps issue at practice over the last week or so, but he now appears to be on the cusp of returning to action. It's unclear if the cornerback will be able to play in Friday's preseason finale versus the Jets, but he is definitely on track to be good to go for Week 1 versus the Cowboys on Sept. 13.

Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, Hood was checked on by trainers during Monday's practice session, but the exact nature of the issue is still unknown. As long as he remains unavailable, 2025 seventh-rounder Korie Black could be in line to see an uptick in reps on the boundary.

Hood (6-foot-0, 193 pounds) wasn't widely projected to come off the board ahead of former teammate Jermod McCoy, though the latter DB's medical concerns may have contributed to this outcome. That isn't a knock on Hood's talents. He showcased greater physicality and competitiveness for 50-50 balls than his size might suggest at Tennessee in 2025, and it wouldn't be surprising for him to immediately provide free-agency signee Greg Newsome with competition for the starting outside gig across from Paulson Adebo. Hood's arrival seemingly spells the end of 2023 first-round pick Deonte Banks' developmental tenure with New York.
