  • Commanders' Jake Moody: Effective after 49ers exit

Moody went 19-for-23 on field-goal attempts and 15-for-16 on extra-point tries across nine games in 2025 while playing for the 49ers, Bears and Commanders. Moody was coming off a shaky 2024 regular season with the 49ers, when he connected on just 24 of 34 field-goal attempts (70.6 percent). Things didn't get much better for the third-year kicker after he went 1-for-3 on his field-goal tries in the 49ers' Week 1 win over the Seahawks, which led to him being waived by San Francisco shortly after. Moody caught on with the Bears on the practice squad and appeared in two games in October due to Cairo Santos being sidelined by a thigh injury, and the former made eight of nine field goals over those two outings. That was enough for Moody to catch on with the Commanders in mid-November, and he stuck around in Washington to finish off the season going 10-for-11 on field-goal attempts and 10-for-11 on extra-point tries over six games. Moody enters the offseason as an unrestricted free agent, but his solid finish to the season could convince the Commanders to stick with the 2023 third-rounder out of Michigan.

  • Commanders' Jake Moody: Converts all three FG attempts in loss

Moody went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and 2-for-2 on point-after tries Thursday in a Week 17 loss to Dallas. Moody's first two field goals were relative chip shots, coming from 29 and 23 yards out. However, he came through on a big 51-yarder with just over two minutes remaining in the game to keep the Commanders' hopes of a comeback alive. Moody remains almost perfect since making his Washington debut Week 13, going 9-for-9 on FG tries and 7-for-8 of PATs. Moody's 51-yarder Thursday was his first FG make of 50-plus yards this season.

  • Commanders' Jake Moody: Perfect in loss

Moody converted both his one field-goal attempt and one extra-point attempt in Saturday's 29-18 loss to the Eagles. Moody converted his 19-yard field goal attempt on the Commanders' first drive, and he was only called upon once more in the game, converting an extra-point attempt in the second quarter after a one-yard touchdown run by Jacory Croskey-Merritt. The kicker now moves to 6-of-6 on field-goal attempts and 5-of-6 on extra-point attempts through four games as a Commander.

  • Commanders' Jake Moody: Makes five of six kicks vs. NYG

Moody converted on all three of his field-goal attempts and went 2-for-3 on extra-point tries during the Commanders' 29-21 win over the Giants on Sunday. Moody drilled all three of his field-goal attempts in the first half, with his longest coming from 46 yards in the first quarter. His extra-point try late in the second quarter hit the right upright, which was his first PAT miss of the year. Moody is 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts and 4-for-5 on point-after tries across three regular-season games with the Commanders.

  • Commanders' Jake Moody: No kicks in Week 14

Moody did not attempt a field goal or an extra-point try in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Vikings. Moody was blanked along with his team in Week 14, failing to attempt a kick for the first time over five contests with the 49ers, Bears and Commanders this year. The kicker will look to break a sweat in Week 15 against the Giants.

  • Bears' Jake Moody: Returns to practice squad

Moody reverted to the Bears' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Moody filled in for Cairo Santos (thigh) for the second straight week, going 4-for-4 on field-goal tries while making both of his PATs in Sunday's 26-14 win over New Orleans. The kicker can be elevated from the practice squad one more time before he'd have to be officially signed to the active roster.

  • Bears' Jake Moody: Busy day in Week 7 win

Moody made all four of his field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries during the Bears' 26-14 win over the Saints on Sunday. Moody was elevated from the practice squad to the Bears' active roster for a second consecutive week in place of Cairo Santos (thigh). Moody was responsible for the Bears' first six points of the game with field goals from 27 and 39 yards in the first half, and he helped expand Chicago's lead in the second half after connecting on two more field goals. Moody is now 8-for-9 on field-goal attempts and 3-for-3 on extra-point tries across two games with the Bears. He is eligible to be elevated from the practice squad by Chicago one more time this season, which could happen as soon as Week 8 against the Ravens on Sunday, Oct. 26.

  • Bears' Jake Moody: Set for Chicago debut

Moody will start Monday night's contest against the Commanders. Moody was elevated from the practice squad to fill in for Cairo Santos (thigh) on Monday Night Football. Moody went 1-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made both his PATs in Week 1 with the 49ers before being let go by the team.

  • Bears' Jake Moody: Elevated for MNF

The Bears have elevated Moody from the practice squad to the active roster for Monday's matchup against the Commanders. Moody has been elevated to the game-day roster for Week 6 due Cairo Santos (hamstring) being listed as questionable. The transaction could be a sign that Santos is trending in the wrong direction to play Monday, in which case Moody will start as Chicago's placekicker, or simply a move made by the Bears for extra depth.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Struggles in Week 1

Moody went 1-for-3 on field-goal tries and 2-for-2 on PATs in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks. Moody hit the left upright on a 27-yard field-goal attempt in the second quarter, and he also had a 36-yard try get blocked in the third quarter. The kicker was able to salvage his day with a 32-yard make early in the fourth, tying the game at 10-10. The 25-year-old went a career-worst 24-for-34 on field-goal attempts in 2024, and he'll look to rebound in Week 2 against the Saints after a disappointing start to the 2025 campaign.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Little work in exhibition opener

Moody did not attempt a field goal but converted his lone extra-point attempt in Saturday's 30-9 preseason loss to Denver. Moody kicked off Saturday's preseason campaign for San Francisco after winning the position battle following Greg Joseph's release earlier this week. The 25-year-old Moody struggled to the tune of a 71 FG percentage on 34 attempts in 2024, but he did suffer a midseason injury that may have affected his play. Now fully healthy and with his job currently not in jeopardy, Moody will attempt to get his 2025 campaign off on the right foot.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Will face competition

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that the 49ers intend to bring in a veteran kicker "who's capable of taking that job" to compete with Moody this offseason, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Shanahan communicated a belief that competition could bring out the best in Moody going forward, saying, "If he can overcome that, and beat out a capable guy, that'll show us he's ready for the season." A 2023 third-round pick, Moody's struggles in 2024 can be attributed in part to a high-ankle sprain that forced him to miss three contests and could have continued to impact his performance upon return to the field. He converted just 71 percent of his field-goal attempts across 14 regular-season appearances and made only four of nine field-goal tries from 50-plus yards out.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Career in SF in jeopardy

Moody went 1-for-2 on field-goal attempts while converting all three of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 47-24 loss to the Cardinals. Moody managed to hit his first field goal from 51 yards out, but he shanked the ensuing 47-yard attempt. The 2023 third-round pick has struggled mightily ever since missing a key PAT in the 49ers' Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs last season. NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco believes it would be a "controversial decision" to keep Moody in house after his bout of inconsistency this season, and its hard to argue against that statement.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Awful showing Monday

Moody missed both of his field-goal attempts while going 4-for-5 on point-after tries in Monday's 40-34 loss to the Lions. Moody's struggles in 2024 continued with another multi-miss outing in Week 17. In the 2023 third-round pick's defense, both of his misses on Monday Night Football came from 50-plus yards out. Still, Moody saw his season conversion rate on FGs drop to 72 percent in addition to missing his first PAT in a six-point loss for San Francisco. The 24-year-old may be in jeopardy of losing his starting job if he is unable to show some composure in Sunday's season-finale against Arizona.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Misses three kicks Monday

Moody went 4-for-5 on extra-point attempts but missed both of his field-goal tries during the 49ers' 40-34 loss to the Lions on Monday. Moody had a solid start to Monday night's game when he converted on his first three extra-point tries, but he missed right on a 51-yard field goal near the end of the first half. His 48-yard field-goal attempt early in the fourth quarter sailed left, and after missing his final extra-point try with less than a minute left to play, he capped things off with an onside-kick attempt that was blasted straight out of bounds. In the eight games since the 49ers' Week 9 bye, the 2023 third-round pick has gone 10-for-18 on field-goal attempts (including 3-for-7 and 1-for-5 on attempts from 40 to 49 yards and 50-plus yards, respectively) and 17-for-18 on extra-point tries. Moody will look to bounce back in the 49ers' regular-season finale against the Cardinals on Sunday.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Scores four points Sunday

Moody went 1-for-1 on field-goal attempts and 1-for-1 on extra-point tries in Sunday's 38-10 loss to Green Bay. Moody only received two kicking opportunities in the lopsided defeat sans starting quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder). San Francisco's kicker hasn't missed a kick since his horrific Week 10, but his low usage has dampened his fantasy value. Moody and the 49ers will stay on the road to face the Bills in the snow next Sunday.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Set to return Sunday

Moody (ankle) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay. The 49ers have cycled through three kickers this season -- also, Matthew Wright (shoulder) and Anders Carlson -- due to injuries. Moody kicked off Week 10 prep with back-to-back limited sessions but practiced in full Friday, so he's been cleared to return for the first time since he sustained a right high-ankle sprain during a Week 5 loss to the Cardinals.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Opens week as limited

Moody (ankle) was a limited participant during Wednesday's practice, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Moody suffered a high-ankle sprain during the 49ers' Week 5 loss to the Cardinals, which caused him to miss the last three games. With the 49ers coming out of a Week 9 bye, Moody was able to return to practice Wednesday, albeit with a cap on his reps. If he's able to advance to full participation in practice by Friday, it would bode well for Moody's chances of playing Sunday against the Buccaneers. Moody has converted 13 of 14 field-goal attempts and 12 of 12 extra-point tries through five outings this season.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Won't play Week 8

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Moody (ankle) won't play in next Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The 49ers have a Week 9 bye, so Moody will get another two weeks to heal from his right ankle sprain. Anders Carlson will again kick for San Francisco after he made both of his field-goal attempts (from 55 and 24 yards) against Kansas City. Carlson, however, missed his one extra-point try.

  • 49ers' Jake Moody: Out again in Week 7

Moody (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chiefs. Moody sustained a right high-ankle sprain Week 5 against the Cardinals, and coach Kyle Shanahan said afterward that the kicker would require roughly a month to recover from the injury. Consequently, it's no surprise that Moody is missing a second game in a row, and the 49ers will be using a third kicker in as many contests this weekend after Matthew Wright emerged from Week 6 with shoulder and back issues that will require an IR stint. Anders Carlson, who is on San Francisco's practice squad, is lined up to handle placekicking duties Sunday and potentially beyond that point.
