Browns' Dillon Gabriel: Will start preseason finale
Gabriel will start at quarterback in Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Gabriel has seen limited action during the preseason, but with fellow signal-callers Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders set to sit out Thursday -- per the same source -- Gabriel will get an extended look. One of the other quarterbacks is expected to be announced as Cleveland's starter Monday, and Gabriel will presumably open the regular season behind both.

Browns' Dillon Gabriel: One pass in second preseason game
Gabriel didn't complete his only pass attempt in Saturday's 31-7 preseason loss to the Bills.
Gabriel didn't get into the game until the Browns' final possession. Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson divided up QB duties before then. Neither contender for the starting role impressed Saturday, as they combined for 110 passing yards and a 1:2 TD:INT, with Sanders tossing the lone touchdown pass. Gabriel appears to be a distant third on the depth chart heading into Thursday's preseason finale against the Patriots, but nobody is running away with the starting job.

Browns' Dillon Gabriel: Set to play fourth quarter
Gabriel is in line to play the fourth quarter of next Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
Shedeur Sanders is set to get the most snaps, with the second-year quarterback marked to play the first half of the contest. Deshaun Watson will see snaps in the third quarter, and Gabriel is set to take the contest home. If Gabriel wants a chance for the No. 2 role, he will need to show out in the little game time he is given.

Browns' Dillon Gabriel: In line for more reps
Browns head coach Todd Monken said Monday that Gabriel is on track to receive more reps in future practices after the second-year quarterback has had a strong start to training camp, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "It's up to the player to take advantage and maximize those reps, which I feel like Dillon has done... If that continues, we'll continue to up his reps. I mean, he's earned that."
Heading into camp, Monken had narrowed down the competition for the starting quarterback gig to Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders. While Gabriel remains unlikely to factor into that job battle, the 25-year-old has done his part thus far to put himself in good standing to make the final roster as the No. 3 signal-caller. Cleveland invested a sixth-round pick on dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green in April, but Gabriel's productive start to camp could leave fewer reps with the second-team offense available to the rookie.

Gabriel, who "had a very nice spring," per Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, approaches training camp competing for a depth role behind Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.
While the signal-caller competition between Watson and Sanders was a top storyline during Browns' offseason program, Gabriel -- who started six games a rookie -- and 2026 sixth-rounder Taylen Green are also still in the mix at the position. For now, it appears as though Gabriel and Green are slated for compete for the No. 3 QB job this summer, though injuries or even an unexpected transaction in the future could alter that narrative.
