  • Bills' Ray Davis: Handles three carries in win

Davis rushed three times for six yards in Sunday's 30-20 win over the Colts. Davis was minimally involved in Sunday's contest, as the rookie running back was on the field for just 11 of the Bills' 74 offensive snaps while starter James Cook played 41 snaps. As long as the latter remains healthy, the 25-year-old Davis should continue to see limited usage out of Buffalo's backfield. Davis is best viewed as solid insurance policy behind Cook going forward. The Bills will host the Chiefs in Week 11.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Sleeper RBs

Davis caught a 63-yard touchdown in Week 9 against Miami and finished with four carries for 20 yards and, two catches for 70 yards and the touchdown for 17 PPR points. He also managed five carries for 41 yards and a touchdown and one catch for 6 yards on one target in Week 7 against Tennessee for 11.7 PPR points. In Week 8 at Seattle, Davis had six carries for 29 yards and no targets for 2.9 PPR points, and all three of these games were played in tandem with James Cook. He's not getting much work, but he's providing some big plays as the backup to Cook. Given the matchup against the Colts, I don't mind taking a chance on Davis this week as a flex option in deeper leagues.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Gets free for 63-yard receiving TD

Davis rushed four times for 20 yards while catching both of his targets for 70 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Dolphins. Most of Davis' production came on a 63-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter. He finished third among Bills running backs in rushing yards behind James Cook (10 carries for 44 yards) and Ty Johnson (three carries for 23 yards). Cook will likely continue to lead Buffalo's backfield in touches as long as he's healthy, so while Davis has flashed promising skills as both a rusher and a pass catcher, the rookie fourth-round pick's short-term fantasy value is capped by a lack of opportunities.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Minimal role in easy win

Davis had six carries for 29 yards and was not targeted in the passing game during Sunday's 31-10 win over the Seahawks. After two weeks of big production -- which probably came at a cheap value in the fantasy world -- the fourth-round rookie took a clear back seat Week 8 while starter James Cook ran wild over the Seattle defense for 133 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. Davis did see action on 22 percent of the offensive snaps for the second straight week, but no matter how well Davis has been performing, this is a good reminder that this is not a timeshare in Buffalo. At the very least, Davis has used October to put himself clearly ahead of Ty Johnson (no carries Week 7 or Week 8) as the No. 2 option in the Buffalo backfield.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Finds end zone in win

Davis rushed five times for 41 yards and a touchdown while catching his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 34-10 win over the Titans. Davis' touchdown came with just under two minutes left in the contest, when the game was already out of hand. The rookie running back has now hit paydirt twice this season while rushing for 213 yards on 51 carries (4.2 YPC). Teammate James Cook made his return Week 7 after missing the previous game with a toe injury, and in doing so, reclaimed his role as the Bills' top option out of the backfield. Though Davis could see his role increase in Buffalo's offense as the season goes on, he holds the most value as an insurance policy if Cook is forced to miss time again.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Active versus Titans

Davis (calf) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Titans. After being added to the Bills' injury report Thursday, when he was limited due to a calf injury, Davis remained limited Friday before being deemed questionable for the contest, while fellow running back James Cook (toe) didn't carry a Week 7 injury designation. With his availability versus Tennessee confirmed, Davis (who carried 20 times for 97 yards and caught all three of his targets for 55 yards while filling in for an injured Cook versus the Jets this past Monday) is in line to move back into a complementary role behind Cook in a Buffalo backfield that also includes Ty Johnson. However, the rookie fourth-rounder's respectable showing in Week 6 could result in added opportunities going forward, provided his calf issue doesn't limit him.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: RBs to Sit

We'll see what happens with James Cook (toe) this week, and if he's able to play against the Titans. If Davis starts again for Cook then I would only use him as a flex in the majority of leagues. He was awesome filling in for Cook against the Jets in Week 6 with 20 carries for 97 yards and three catches for 55 yards on three targets. But the Titans have allowed just one rushing touchdown to a running back this year, and no running back has topped 62 rushing yards, including matchups with D'Andre Swift, Breece Hall, Josh Jacobs and De'Von Achane. Davis is a risky starter even if Cook is still out.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Status in question for Sunday

Davis (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Titans, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports. Davis didn't make an appearance on the Bills' Week 7 practice report until Thursday, when he was limited due to a calf injury. He maintained that activity level Friday, and his ensuing designation leaves his status up in the air for Sunday. Coach Sean McDermott intimated as much earlier Friday, telling WGR 550 Buffalo that he wasn't sure if the rookie fourth-round pick will be available this weekend. Meanwhile, James Cook (toe) practiced fully Thursday and Friday and has been cleared to return, so he likely will assume No. 1 status out of the Bills backfield, even if Davis is active.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Added to injury report

Davis (calf) was limited at practice Thursday. While Davis was added to the Bills' Week 7 injury report Thursday, James Cook (toe) -- who was inactive for Monday's 23-20 win over the Jets -- returned to a full practice. With Cook poised to reclaim his lead role in Buffalo's backfield Sunday against the Titans, Davis, if he's available, is on track to work in a complementary role this weekend after rushing 20 times for 97 yards and catching all three of his targets for 55 yards while filling in for Cook versus New York.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Week 7 Adds (RB Preview)

It's a week of maybes on the waiver wire, but Davis has the highest upside if James Cook remains out. It's also possible that Davis looked so good in Week 6 against the Jets that he has a bigger role even when Cook is healthy, though it is fair to wonder if the Bills acquisition of Amari Cooper means they won't be quite as run-heavy as they have been early this season.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Huge game on MNF

Davis rushed 20 times for 97 yards and caught all three of his targets for 55 yards in Monday's 23-20 win over the Jets. Davis emerged as the Bills' top running back sans starter James Cook (toe) in Monday's narrow victory. The 24-year-old Davis wound up out-touching fellow backup Ty Johnson by 19 combined looks in absence of Buffalo's starter. Davis would make sense as the hot waiver add for fantasy managers, but Cook's toe injury requires monitoring for activation prior to a home matchup against the Titans in Week 7.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Scores in blowout win

Davis carried seven times for 22 yards and a touchdown and caught his only target for one yard in Monday's 47-10 win over Jacksonville. The fourth-round rookie scored his first NFL touchdown in the lopsided win. Davis continues to share backup duties behind star running back James Cook with veteran Ty Johnson, but either could have the opportunity to solidify himself in the No. 2 role as the season progresses. The job would offer huge upside if Cook were to be sidelined at any point, and Davis looks to be the more appealing back to stash in fantasy leagues over Johnson due to his short-yardage usage. Davis scored on a nice three-yard effort to cap the scoring Monday and has a bowling ball of a frame at 5-foot-9 and 220 pounds.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Week 1 Waiver Priority List

There's a chance Davis could be the goal-line running back for the Bills right away, and he's worth stashing on your bench. Just keep in mind that's not the most valuable role given how Buffalo uses Josh Allen near the goal line. But Davis also could be the handcuff for James Cook, which makes Davis a lottery ticket.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Several chunk gains

Davis rushed the ball eight times for 58 yards in Saturday's 9-3 preseason win over the Steelers. Davis didn't manage any snaps with the first-team offense, but he was the next running back into the game following James Cook. After struggling to find rushing lanes in his pro debut against the Bears last week, Davis recorded a long gain of 19 yards, which was supplemented by a pair of eight-yard rushes in his second chance. Davis is competing with Ty Johnson for the primary backup spot in the offense, though the two could coexist as Davis has a frame that should help him excel in short-yardage situations while Johnson is a strong pass catcher.

  • Bills' Ray Davis: Receiving salvages tough sledding

Davis carried five times for just two yards and caught three of four targets for 19 yards during Saturday's preseason loss to the Bears. No one had much luck for the Bills running the ball, as the team averaged just 3.0 yards per carry over 26 team rushes. At least the coaches have to be happy with Davis' ability to snag some passes for decent yardage out of the backfield. The rookie fourth-rounder out of Kentucky is currently battling veteran Ty Johnson for the No. 2 running back role behind James Cook. Johnson returned to practice from a hamstring injury Monday, so expect each of the two players to see meaningful carries during the team's last two preseason games, at which point the depth chart should become more clear. Darrynton Evans and undrafted rookie Frank Gore are also both in the mix.
