  • Danny Amendola: Retires from NFL

Amendola opted to retire rather than return for his 14th NFL season Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Amendola received interest in free agency from multiple teams this offseason after recording 24 catches for 248 yards and three touchdowns with Houston in 2021, according to Schefter. However, the two-time Super Bowl champ with New England apparently is at peace with the course of his career, saying, "it was better than I could have ever imagined." Amendola accumulated 24 touchdowns and 6,212 receiving yards on 617 career catches over 13 seasons spent playing between the Rams, Patriots, Dolphins, Lions and Texans.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Turns back clock

Amendola recorded seven receptions on eight targets for 113 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 28-25 loss to the Titans. Amendola was a substantial part of the offense thanks to the absence of Chris Conley (knee) and early exit of Brandin Cooks (knee). He took advantage of his opportunity and showed immediate rapport with Davis Mills, keying the Texans' comeback efforts. Amendola found the end zone from seven and 26 yards away while also racking up big gains of 37 and 21 yards. The end result was his first game with over 100 yards since the 2019 season. Looking ahead, Amendola is set to hit free agency and could sign another short-term deal to serve as a depth receiver with the Texans or a new team.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Back from COVID list

Houston activated Amendola (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday. Amendola landed on the list last week and is now back on the active roster after missing one game. Before going on the list, Amendola had missed the prior four games with a knee injury, but he should be back on the field for Sunday's season finale versus the Titans.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: On COVID list

Amendola (undisclosed) has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Until Amendola clears COVID protocols, Brandin Cooks, Nico Collins and Chris Conley (knee) are in line to serve as Houston's top available wide receivers. Amendola, who had been dealing with a knee issue and recently was activated off IR, last suited up Week 12.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Not on injury report

Amendola (knee) doesn't appear on Wednesday's estimated injury report. Amendola, who underwent an arthroscopic knee procedure Nov. 29, was activated from injured reserve Christmas Day, but he ended up on the inactive list a day later for Houston's win over the Chargers. The Texans may have just wanted to exercise some extra caution with the veteran slot man by holding him out for another game, but his absence from the injury report entirely for Week 17 puts him on track to play Sunday in San Francisco. The 36-year-old doesn't necessarily fit in with the Texans' rebuilding effort, so he may not be tasked with a large role over the team's final two games of the season.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Not playing Week 16

Amendola (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers. Though Amendola returned to practice Thursday and was reinstated from injured reserve Saturday, the Texans will apparently give him more time off to recover from the knee injury that sidelined him for the past three games. With Brandin Cooks (illness) also sidelined after landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Nico Collins, Chris Conley, Phillip Dorsett, Chris Moore and Jalen Camp will represent Houston's available options at receiver.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Comes off IR

Amendola (knee) was activated off IR in advance of Sunday's game against the Chargers, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. With top wideout Brandin Cooks on the COVID-19 reserve list, Amendola's return comes at an opportune time. While it remains to be seen how much volume he'll be up for in Week 16, Amendola could pick up some targets out of the slot Sunday.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Could play Sunday

Per coach David Culley, there's "a possibility" that Amendola (knee) could play Sunday against the Chargers, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports. Amendola has been designated to return from IR, but this nugget suggests that he's not a lock to be activated for the contest. If he is, Amendola could see immediate snaps out of the slot while bolstering a Week 16 Houston WR corps that may be without Brandin Cooks (reserve/COVID-19 list).

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Designated to return from IR

Amendola (knee) has been designated to return from IR. The Texans now have a 21-day window in which to activate the slot man, but if he's able to demonstrate that he's ready for game action in the coming days, he could step into key role this Sunday against the Chargers in the event that Brandin Cooks (illness) isn't activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Amendola, who last suited up Week 12, has recorded 17 catches (on 29 targets) for 135 yards and a TD in seven contests to date this season.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Goes to injured reserve

The Texans placed Amendola (knee) on injured reserve Saturday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports. Amendola came out of the Texans' Week 12 loss to the Jets with a meniscus injury that required arthroscopic surgery Tuesday. With a recovery timeline of up to four weeks, this move was inevitable, and he won't be eligible return until a Dec. 26 game against the Chargers. While Amendola is in recovery mode, Brandin Cooks (illness), Nico Collins, Chris Conley (illness), Chris Moore and Davion Davis will comprise the Texans' group of wide receivers.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Officially out Sunday

Amendola (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Colts. Amendola sustained a meniscus injury during last week's loss to the Jets and was unable to practice ahead of Sunday's matchup. He's expected to miss up to four weeks, so the Texans could place the wide receiver on injured reserve to open up a spot on the active roster. Nico Collins, Chris Conley and Chris Moore could see an uptick in targets while Amendola is out.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Set to miss time with knee injury

Amendola suffered a meniscus injury during Sunday's loss to the Jets and could miss up to four weeks, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports. Amendola underwent an arthroscopic knee procedure Tuesday, but the Texans haven't yet offered up a firm timeline for his return. If the expected multi-week absence is confirmed, the 36-year-old slot receiver could head to injured reserve. Despite previously missing four contests due to a hamstring injury earlier this season, Amendola currently ranks tied for third on the Texans with 29 targets. Brandin Cooks could receive more looks, but he's already well established as the team's No 1 wideout. Further down the depth chart, rookie Nico Collins, who's averaged 4.2 targets over six games since returning from his own injury, could see additional targets. Houston also has veterans Chris Conley and Chris Moore rostered. Moore was signed to the active roster after Amendola suffered the hamstring injury and has remained on the roster since. He may be the primary replacement at slot receiver for Amendola.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Five targets in loss

Amendola caught three of five targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Jets. Amendola finished fourth among Houston's wideouts with 22 snaps but had an equal number of targets as Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins, the Texans' top two receivers. One week after Amendola appeared to be headed for a reduced role, the 36-year-old was a key figure. Of course, that might not mean much in Houston's low-wattage passing attack, and Amendola's lone touchdown catch came back in Week 1.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Shrinking usage

Amendola did not catch his lone target and played 13 snaps in Sunday's 22-13 win over Tennessee. Amendola had the fewest number of snaps among Houston's five active wide receivers, which is a significant change. He had been among the top three in terms of playing time and targets prior to the team's bye last week. That suggests the 36-year-old Amendola will play a reduced role over the final weeks of the regular season, while Nico Collins, Chris Conley and Chris Moore receive added playing time.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Another big target day

Amendola caught three of seven targets for 49 yards in Sunday's 17-9 loss to the Dolphins. Amendola was second in targets behind Brandin Cooks and remains a key part of the offense, having gathered 17 targets in three games since returning from a thigh injury. The Texans have a bye in Week 10, which could be an opportunity to recalibrate the offense. To have the 36-year-old Amendola sucking up targets on a 1-8 team seems pointless.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Registers five targets in loss

Amendola caught two of five targets for three yards in Sunday's 38-22 loss to the Rams. In terms of production, Amendola's performance wasn't much, but he continues to have a significant role in the passing game when healthy. He was second among Houston wide receivers in targets and snaps. In two games since returning from a four-game absence due to a thigh injury, he's been targeted 10 times. That might be the Texans showcasing the 35-year-old receiver ahead of the trade deadline Nov. 2, the day on which he turns 36.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Returns to action

Amendola caught three of five targets for 17 yards and returned one kickoff for 15 yards in Sunday's 31-5 loss to the Cardinals. Amendola returned to action Sunday after missing four games due to a thigh injury. He fit in behind Brandin Cooks and Nico Collins in terms of snap count and shared third wideout duties with Chris Conley. Amendola's five targets tied for third with Collins, behind David Johnson (seven) and Cooks (six). He and Tremon Smith both were added to the return team Sunday, the first game following the Texans' decision to release Andre Roberts. Amendola has been targeted 11 times over 53 snaps, the best target-to-snap ratio among the wideouts, but his injury history works against him. Plus, he's a 35-year-old (36 on Nov. 2) playing for a 1-6 team that should eventually start evaluating all of its younger players in the pipeline.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Returns to full practice

Amendola (thigh) practiced fully Wednesday. Amendola is in line to return to action Sunday against the Cardinals and should be in position to reclaim a share of the Texans' slot duties. In the two games he suited up for this season, Amendola caught all six of his targets for 43 yards and a touchdown. With rookie Davis Mills slated to start at quarterback for at least one more game for Houston, Amendola profiles as a speculative Week 7 lineup option in deeper PPR formats.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Questionable against Colts

Amendola (thigh) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts. Amendola was limited in all three practice sessions this week, so it's hard to get a read on his availability, especially after he also practiced in a limited fashion last week prior to sitting out. If he's able to suit up Sunday, it will be Amendola's first action since Week 2.

  • Texans' Danny Amendola: Remains limited at practice

Amendola (thigh) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday. Amendola practiced last week in a limited fashion, but he remained inactive for Sunday's loss to the Patriots. However, head coach David Culley noted Wednesday that the slot receiver is "making progress" and will hopefully be able to return to the lineup this weekend against the Colts, according to Drew Dougherty of the Texans' official site. Along with Amendola, fellow wideout Nico Collins (shoulder) is also a candidate to play Week 6 after being designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
