  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Beaten three times Saturday

Lyon stopped 27 of 30 shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Canadiens. The fourth goal was an empty-netter late in the third period. Lyon had been in an impressive stretch of late, and this was his first defeat since Nov. 28, when he allowed five goals on 23 shots in a loss to the Devils. Lyon has a 1.77 GAA and a .945 save percentage in four outings in January, and while fantasy managers should continue to trust him, the upcoming stretch of road games against Florida and Tampa Bay is far from favorable for the 33-year-old netminder.

Lyon will patrol the home crease against Montreal on Saturday, according to Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports. Lyon has won his last 10 outings while surrendering only 19 goals on 283 shots. He has three straight victories since returning to action from a lower-body injury against Nashville on Jan. 20. Lyon has a 13-6-3 record with a 2.62 GAA, a .914 save percentage and two shutouts in 24 appearances during the 2025-26 campaign. Montreal ranks fourth in the league with 3.43 goals per game this season.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Sharp in Thursday's win

Lyon made 37 saves in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Kings. Adrian Kempe redirected a Kevin Fiala shot past the veteran netminder on a Los Angeles power play in the second period, but otherwise Lyon shut down the visitors completely. He's won three straight starts since returning from a lower-body injury, allowing a total of four goals on 98 shots (.959 save percentage), and as a result of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen dealing with a lower-body injury of his own, Lyon figures to be busy as the Sabres pack in four more games before the Olympic break begins.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: In goal Saturday

Lyon will guard the road goal against the Islanders on Saturday, per Andrew Gross of Newsday. After missing nine games due to a lower-body injury, Lyon is coming off a 31-save performance in Tuesday's 5-3 win over Nashville. He has gone 11-6-3 this campaign with a 2.83 GAA, a .907 save percentage and one shutout in 22 appearances. The Islanders sit 24th in the league with 2.84 goals per game this season. However, the team will get an offensive boost with the return of Bo Horvat (lower body) in Saturday's matchup.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Wins in return to action

Lyon stopped 31 of 34 shots in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Predators. Lyon made his first appearance since Dec. 29 after missing nine games with a lower-body injury and being the backup of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen on Monday against the Hurricanes. Despite the absence, Lyon continued his superb run with his eighth straight win. During that span, he has posted a 2.32 GAA and an impressive .918 save percentage.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Set to start Tuesday

Lyon will guard the road goal versus the Predators, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports. Lyon backed up Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen on Monday versus the Hurricanes, and now he'll make his return to the crease a day later. Lyon had missed nine games due to a lower-body injury. Given Luukkonen's strong play in Lyon's absence, the Sabres' crease is likely to be a timeshare moving forward.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Activated Monday

Lyon (lower body) was taken off injured reserve Monday, per Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News. Josh Norris (ribs) was put on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Lyon has a 10-6-3 record, 2.82 GAA and .906 save percentage in 21 outings in 2025-26. Now that he's healthy, Lyon will resume competing for starts with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Colten Ellis. Lyon could be regarded as the No. 1 option, but none of Buffalo's goaltenders are likely to be used as regularly as a typical starter as long as all three are on the active roster.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Practices Sunday

Lyon (lower body) participated in Sunday's practice, Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News reports. According to Lenzi, Lyon could be ready to return to the lineup at some point over the next four games. Buffalo begins a five-game road trip against Carolina on Monday. Lyon has missed nine straight outings and remains on injured reserve for now.

Lyon (lower body) was moved to injured reserve Tuesday, per the NHL media site. Lyon will miss his third straight game against Vancouver on Tuesday after being injured in a 4-2 win over St. Louis on Dec. 29. He is day-to-day, but it's unclear when he will be available to return to the lineup. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will probably see the majority of the starts during Lyon's absence, while Colten Ellis serves as the backup.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Suffers injury Monday

Lyon suffered a lower-body injury in Monday's 4-2 win over St. Louis, according to Rachel Lenzi of The Buffalo News on Tuesday. Lyon didn't participate in Tuesday's practice, and it's unclear if he will be available for Wednesday's road matchup against Dallas. He has won his last seven outings while allowing only 15 goals on 185 shots. If Lyon misses game action, Colten Ellis (concussion) could come off injured reserve to push Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for playing time.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Win streak up to seven

Lyon stopped 16 of 18 shots on goal in Monday's 4-2 win over the Blues. Outside of a tough first period where he allowed two goals, Lyon shut down the Blues to help guide the Sabres to their ninth consecutive win. With Monday's victory, he is up to a 10-6-3 record with a .906 save percentage and a 2.82 GAA through 21 appearances this season. The 33-year-old netminder has been a large part of the Sabres' recent success and used Monday's victory to raise his own win streak to seven straight appearances. A very small list of goalies are currently playing better than Lyon, who has a .919 save percentage and a 2.22 GAA during the team's win streak. He is a top waiver-wire add in all fantasy formats, and his next chance to take the ice is Wednesday in Dallas.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Patrolling crease Tuesday

Lyon will be in goal on the road against the Senators on Tuesday, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports. Lyon is undefeated in his last five outings while posting a 2.31 GAA and .922 save percentage. With the 33-year-old netminder performing at this level, it seems head coach Lindy Ruff is content to ride the hot hand and utilize Lyon ahead of Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Steady in win

Lyon stopped 30 of 32 shots in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Canucks. Lyon's got a chance to claim a larger share of playing time while Colten Ellis (concussion) is on injured reserve. This was Lyon's second straight win, and he's allowed five goals on 56 shots in that span. For the season, the 33-year-old netminder is at a 5-6-3 record with a 3.13 GAA and a .902 save percentage over 16 appearances. Lyon will probably struggle to consistently earn wins, but he's been a passable fantasy goalie when he's getting enough playing time.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: First goalie off Thursday

Lyon was the first goalie off during Thursday's morning skate, Matthew Fairburn of The Athletic reports, indicating that he'll draw the road start against Vancouver. Lyon was in the starter's crease during Thursday's morning skate, and although he briefly left the ice with an apparent injury, he returned shortly later and should serve as the starting netminder against Vancouver. The Canucks are scoring 2.77 goals per game this season, which is tied for the eighth-worst mark in the league.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Needed in relief Monday

Lyon stopped all four shots he faced after replacing Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen to begin the third period of Monday's 7-4 loss to the Flames. The switch had more to do with the poor play of the Sabres' defense than it did Luukkonen's performance, but Lyon did his part in giving Buffalo a chance to mount a comeback from a 5-3 deficit. Lyon has started only one of the last 12 games, falling behind Luukkonen and Colten Ellis on the depth chart, but the team continues to carry three goalies rather than risk losing one on waivers. On the season, Lyon has a 3-6-3 record in 14 outings with a 3.16 GAA and a .901 save percentage.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Allows five goals

Lyon stopped 18 of 23 shots in Friday's 5-0 loss to New Jersey. Lyon built a solid performance through two periods before he allowed three goals in the third. With the loss, the 32-year-old goaltender has a 3-6-3 record with a 3.23 GAA and a .899 save percentage through 13 outings this season. After a decent start to the campaign, Lyon is trending downward in fantasy and hasn't found the win column since Oct. 24. He has also dropped to third on the Sabres' depth chart behind Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Colten Ellis, who each have two wins or more in November. While Lyon remains off the fantasy radar for the time being, he could become a relevant streaming option if one of Buffalo's other two netminders picks up an injury.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: Gets quick hook Thursday

Lyon stopped one of three shots before he was relieved by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Avalanche. It was clear enough from the jump that Lyon didn't have it, prompting head coach Lindy Ruff to make a quick switch. That early move spared Lyon from taking the loss, but the 32-year-old's GAA rose from 2.92 to 3.07 while his save percentage dipped from .911 to .907 due to this poor outing. He's 3-5-3 on the year as well, and he if can't turn things around soon, he may cede some playing time to Luukkonen or Colten Ellis. The Sabres wrap up their current road trip in Detroit on Saturday.

  • Sabres' Alex Lyon: In goal Thursday

Lyon will start in goal on the road versus the Avalanche on Thursday, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports. This is contrary to a previous report that said Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen would start, but Lyon was the first goalie on the ice Thursday for warmups. Since the Sabres are carrying three goalies, it's unlikely this is an injury situation and simply just a mix-up. Lyon has lost his last four outings (0-1-3) with 14 goals allowed on 129 shots in that span.
