  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Slated to return Friday

Dahlin (back) will be available for Friday's matchup against Toronto, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports. Dahlin has been sidelined since early December due to back spasms, but he's trended in the right direction lately, and head coach Lindy Ruff confirmed Thursday that the 24-year-old blueliner will be back in action for the first half of a back-to-back set Friday. Over his first 25 appearances of the season, Dahlin racked up six goals, 13 assists, 36 blocked shots, 26 hits and 18 PIM while averaging 24:42 of ice time.

  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Lands on injured reserve

Dahlin (back) was placed on injured reserve Monday, per the NHL media site. Head coach Lindy Ruff said Monday that Dahlin went through a rehab skate with no issues and could return to game action Saturday against the Capitals or Sunday against the Maple Leafs. The defenseman has been dealing with back spasms since Buffalo's Dec. 3 matchup against the Avalanche, and he could still be in the mix to be activated over the weekend. However, Dahlin's move to injured reserve allowed the Sabres to activate Jordan Greenway (undisclosed) ahead of Monday's game against the Red Wings.

  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Targeting Saturday return

Dahlin (back) is progressing in his recovery and is hoping to play against the Capitals or Maple Leafs on Saturday or Sunday, respectively, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. Based on his timeline, Dahlin will be sidelined for at least the Sabres' next two contests as he works his way back from his back injury. Prior to getting hurt, the 24-year-old blueliner was stuck in a four-game point drought, during which he generated 10 shots on net, four hits and four blocked shots while averaging 24:25 of ice time. Once cleared to return, Dahlin will link back up with the No. 1 power-play unit and should eventually break out of his slump. With Jordan Greenway (undisclosed) likely to be activated ahead of Monday's clash with Detroit, Dahlin may have to be designated for injured reserve in order to clear up a roster spot.

Dahlin (back) won't play Saturday against Utah, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports. It'll be the second game Dahlin's missed while dealing with back spasms. • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Ruled out Thursday

Dahlin (back) will not be an option against the Jets on Thursday but isn't expected out long-term after head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters, "It should be short-term, but you never know." Dahlin will be replaced in the lineup by Dennis Gilbert, but it's Jacob Bryson who should see the biggest uptick in ice time. On the top power-play unit, Alex Tuch will join up with the No. 1 group in Dahlin's stead. For his part, the 24-year-old Dahlin was stuck in a four-game pointless streak prior to getting hurt and will no have to wait a bit before getting a chance to end his slump.

  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Fills stat sheet Saturday

Dahlin scored an empty-net goal on five shots, dished an assist, went plus-3, blocked three shots, logged two hits and added two PIM in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Sharks. Dahlin contributed in virtually every fantasy category a defenseman can, except for special-teams production. Dahlin has been among the best blueliners in the NHL for fantasy purposes, racking up six goals, 13 assists, eight power-play points, 64 shots on net, 32 blocked shots, 22 hits, 18 PIM and a plus-5 rating through 21 appearances.

Dahlin registered a power-play assist, three hits and two PIM in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Kings. Dahlin is now on a seven-game point streak (four goals, six assists). For the season, he's at five goals, 12 helpers, eight power-play points, 55 shots on net, 27 blocked shots, 20 hits, 16 PIM and a plus-2 rating. The 24-year-old remains an excellent source of all-around production in fantasy while playing in a massive role for the Sabres.

  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Goalless to open season

Dahlin has yet to score a goal this season despite registering 10 shots through five games. Dahlin put up five shots in Wednesday's 6-5 defeat to the Penguins, so it's possible a goal is right around the corner for the blueliner. The fact that he's managed just one assist as well during this five-game stretch is no doubt a concern for fantasy players. Unless he can turn things around quickly, he may not be able to repeat last season's 20-goal, 59-point performance.

  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Cleared for contact

Dahlin (undisclosed) joined the Sabres on the ice Wednesday without wearing a non-contact jersey. Dahlin missed Tuesday's preseason contest against Pittsburgh, but he seems to be making progress. Perhaps he'll be in action versus Red Bull Munchen on Friday, but of course, there's no reason for Buffalo to rush him during training camp, so it wouldn't be surprising if he ends up missing additional exhibition action.

  • Sabres' Rasmus Dahlin: Out again Tuesday

Dahlin (undisclosed), as expected, won't play in Tuesday's preseason clash with Pittsburgh, Lance Lysowski of The Buffalo News reports. Dahlin was a long shot to appear in Tuesday's tilt after sitting out against the Blue Jackets on Monday. At this point, the team seems to be taking a precautionary approach to the blueliner's recovery timeline. There have been no indications Dahlin won't be ready for Opening Night -- though he will have less time to recover than the rest of the league due to the Sabres' participation in the Global Series in Czechia against New Jersey on Oct. 4/5.
